Chapter 66 Second Archive Opened

Chapter 66 Second Archive Opened
The rink stayed open longer than usual that day. Not for training, but because no one really left at the same time anymore. Everything felt staggered, like people were waiting for instructions they didn’t want to admit they were waiting for.

Lenora didn’t go back inside immediately. She stood outside with Kylen, watching the entrance where Lilibeth had disappeared moments earlier.

Kylen broke the silence first.

“That message wasn’t random,” he said.

Lenora kept her eyes forward. “Nothing has been random since this started.”

He shifted his grip on his stick. “The second archive shouldn’t exist.”

“Then why does it?” she asked.

Kylen didn’t answer straight away.

Because there was no easy answer.

The rink doors opened again.

Lilibeth came out first. Her steps were steady, but her direction changed slightly when she saw them.

Behind her, her boyfriend followed, adjusting his jacket like he was leaving a conversation that didn’t belong to him.

He didn’t stay close. He stopped a few meters away.

Watching.

Lilibeth didn’t speak immediately. She looked at Lenora first.

Then Kylen.

Then finally spoke.

“My mother didn’t come back for family reasons,” she said.

No one replied.

She continued anyway.

“She came back because something was accessed that wasn’t supposed to be touched again.”

Kylen nodded slightly. “We know.”

That made her look at him differently.

Lenora stepped forward slightly. “What did she take from the office?”

Lilibeth didn’t hesitate. “A sealed transfer file.”

That name meant nothing on the surface.

But Kylen’s expression shifted.

“She took it?” he asked.

“Yes,” Lilibeth replied. “And she didn’t open it here.”

That changed the tone.

Lenora processed it quickly. “Then she already knew what was inside.”

Lilibeth didn’t deny it.

Behind them, the new player appeared again.

This time not leaving.

He stopped a few steps away from all of them.

“I told you,” he said, looking at Lenora. “Second archive is open.”

Kylen turned slightly. “You’re talking like you have access.”

The new player didn’t respond to Kylen.

He kept his focus on Lenora.

“That system wasn’t destroyed,” he said. “It was split.”

Lenora held his gaze. “Split into what?”

He finally looked away, briefly scanning the street before answering.

“Two controlled records,” he said. “One legal. One hidden.”

Silence followed that.

Lilibeth stepped closer again.

“That’s not possible,” she said.

“It is,” the new player replied. “If you were part of the structure.”

That word again.

Structure.

Kylen exhaled slowly. “So the first archive is what everyone knows.”

“And the second?” Lenora asked.

The new player looked at her again.

“The part that explains why people were chosen in the first place.”

That landed heavier than anything else so far.

Lilibeth’s boyfriend finally spoke from the side.

“So someone just opened the selection criteria.”

No one corrected him.

Because that was exactly what it sounded like.

Lenora’s phone vibrated again.

Same unknown number.

New message.

They are no longer looking at history. They are looking at results.

Kylen saw it over her shoulder.

“That’s escalation,” he said.

Lilibeth looked between them.

“This isn’t just about you anymore,” she said to Lenora.

Lenora didn’t respond immediately.

Because that wasn’t true.

It had always been about her.

It just wasn’t contained anymore.

A car pulled up slowly near the curb.

Black again.

This time, no hesitation.

Lenora noticed it first.

Then Kylen.

Then everyone else.

The driver didn’t step out.

But the window lowered.

And the same man from before was there.

He looked at Lenora.

Then spoke without raising his voice.

“Second archive activation means one thing,” he said.

No one interrupted.

“It means the system is choosing again.”

Silence followed.

Then the car drove off.

No explanation.

No second message.

Just that.

Lilibeth turned immediately toward Lenora.

“Choosing what?” she asked.

Lenora didn’t answer right away.

Because she already felt the answer forming.

Kylen spoke instead.

“People,” he said. “It means selecting outcomes again.”

That made Lilibeth pause.

Even her boyfriend didn’t respond this time.

The new player finally stepped closer again.

“Not selecting,” he corrected. “Re-evaluating.”

Kylen looked at him. “You’re too calm for someone who shouldn’t know this much.”

The new player didn’t react.

“I wasn’t supposed to be new,” he said.

That stopped everything again.

Lenora looked at him. “What does that mean?”

He finally met her gaze fully.

“It means I was already inside before I transferred here.”

Silence.

Lilibeth’s expression changed slightly.

“That’s not how transfers work,” she said.

“No,” he replied. “Not normally.”

Kylen stepped slightly closer to Lenora again.

“This is getting layered,” he said quietly.

Lenora nodded once. “It already is.”

Inside the rink building, movement could be heard again.

More people arriving.

More staff.

More tension.

Then Kylen’s phone rang.

He answered immediately.

Listened.

His expression changed slightly, but not dramatically.

He ended the call quickly.

“What is it?” Lenora asked.

Kylen looked at her.

“Tournament roster changed,” he said.

“That’s normal,” Lilibeth replied.

“It’s not,” Kylen said. “They replaced three players overnight.”

That detail didn’t sit right.

Lenora looked toward the rink doors again.

“Replaced with who?”

Kylen didn’t answer immediately.

Then said, “Names that weren’t on any registered list.”

Silence followed.

The new player finally spoke again.

“They’re building something on ice now,” he said.

No one corrected him.

Because it wasn’t just metaphor anymore.

Lilibeth looked at Lenora.

“You’re still at the center of it,” she said.

Lenora finally replied.

“No,” she said. “Now I’m just part of it moving.”

The wind shifted slightly across the street.

Another car slowed in the distance.

No one spoke immediately.

Because now it was clear.

This wasn’t just family control anymore.

It wasn’t even just school anymore.

And Lenora was already inside it before anyone admitted it had restarted.
