Chapter 120 The Beginning After Everything

Chapter 120 The Beginning After Everything
School felt different on Monday.

Not quieter. Not calmer.

Just… lighter.

Like something heavy had finally been lifted off the building itself.

Lenora walked through the halls with the hockey boy beside her, their hands linked like it was the most normal thing in the world.

And somehow, it was.

No one whispered like they used to.

No one pointed.

If anything, people moved out of their way.

Not fearfully.

Respectfully.

Lilibeth slid up beside them at her locker.

“I just want it documented that I predicted this entire romance arc.”

Kylen followed behind her, sipping juice like he had survived war.

“You also predicted a zombie outbreak last month.”

“And?”

Pamela arrived last, calmer than she had been in weeks.

“I think we’re trending.”

Lenora groaned softly.

“Please don’t say that.”

Pamela smirked.

“Too late.”

The hockey boy leaned closer to Lenora.

“You ready for practice after school?”

She nodded.

“I’ll be there.”

He kissed her temple before walking off to class.

Like it was nothing.

Like it had always been this way.

Lilibeth watched him go.

“I hate how normal you two look now. I preferred the chaos.”

Kylen raised an eyebrow.

“You still have chaos. It just comes with emotional stability now.”

“That’s boring,” she declared.

Pamela looked at Lenora.

“Nothing about your life is boring.”

Lenora laughed softly.

That part, unfortunately, was true.

By lunchtime, the school announcement system crackled.

A familiar voice came through.

“Students, please be informed that the Lakeview Gala committee has requested a formal acknowledgment regarding recent events involving student families and media leaks.”

The cafeteria erupted.

Lilibeth nearly dropped her tray.

“Oh my God, they’re making it official.”

Kylen shook his head.

“This school is allergic to peace.”

Lenora stared at the speakers.

The hockey boy slid into the seat beside her.

“Sounds like damage control.”

“Sounds like the adults finally catching up,” she replied.

Pamela leaned forward.

“Or finally being forced to stop hiding.”

Lenora looked down at her food.

For months, everything had been hidden.

Now everything was out.

And yet, somehow, she still felt like she was waiting for the next shoe to drop.

The hockey boy noticed.

His knee bumped hers under the table.

“You’re overthinking again.”

She looked at him.

“I can’t help it.”

He shrugged.

“Then think about this instead.”

He leaned in and kissed her cheek right there in the cafeteria.

Gasps echoed instantly.

Lilibeth squealed.

Kylen groaned loudly.

Pamela looked amused.

Lenora buried her face in her hands.

“You are going to ruin me socially.”

He smiled.

“Worth it.”

After school, practice was brutal.

Coach pushed them harder than usual.

The championship win hadn’t slowed anything down.

If anything, expectations were higher now.

Sweat clung to Lenora’s hoodie as she sat in the stands afterward, watching the team stretch on the ice.

The hockey boy skated over and leaned against the glass.

“You coming down?”

She shook her head.

“I like watching you suffer from up here.”

He laughed.

“Cruel.”

“Honest.”

He tapped the glass lightly.

“I’ll meet you outside.”

The sky was turning orange when they left the arena.

Cold air hit their faces immediately.

Lenora pulled her hoodie tighter.

The hockey boy slipped his jacket off and draped it over her shoulders without asking.

She looked up at him.

“You’re going to get cold.”

He shrugged.

“I’ve survived worse.”

She smiled softly.

“Doubtful.”

They walked in silence for a while.

Not uncomfortable.

Just… easy.

Then Lenora spoke.

“Do you ever think about what would’ve happened if we never talked that first time?”

He didn’t hesitate.

“We wouldn’t be here.”

She glanced at him.

“That’s not an answer.”

“It is,” he said simply.

She stopped walking.

He stopped too.

Lenora studied him for a moment.

“I used to think everything in my life was just happening to me.”

He tilted his head slightly.

“And now?”

She looked down at the pavement.

“Now I think I was just waiting for something real to interrupt it.”

He stepped closer.

“You mean me?”

She smiled.

“I mean chaos with good timing.”

He laughed softly.

“Same thing.”

They reached the small bridge near the edge of campus.

The place where everything had started to feel less like school and more like their own world.

Lenora leaned against the railing.

The water below reflected the sky in soft ripples.

The hockey boy stood beside her.

“Something’s bothering you,” he said.

She exhaled.

“It feels too quiet.”

He frowned slightly.

“Quiet is bad now?”

She shook her head.

“It just feels like… everything happened too fast.”

He watched her carefully.

“You regret it?”

Her head snapped up immediately.

“No.”

He relaxed slightly.

“Then what is it?”

She hesitated.

“I keep waiting for someone to take it all back.”

He didn’t answer right away.

Instead, he reached for her hand.

Held it firmly.

“No one’s taking anything back.”

She looked at him.

“Not even your family?”

“My family is still a mess,” he admitted. “But it’s their mess now. Not ours.”

That word again.

Ours.

It still felt new.

Still slightly unbelievable.

Lenora leaned into him.

He wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

“You know what I think?” he said.

“What?”

“I think we survived the worst version of everything already.”

She smiled faintly.

“That’s reassuring.”

“It should be.”

He kissed the top of her head.

“And I think,” he added, “we finally get to decide what comes next.”

Lenora looked out at the water.

For the first time, that idea didn’t scare her.

It felt… possible.

That night, Lenora’s phone buzzed just as she was getting ready for bed.

Unknown number.

She hesitated before opening it.

A single message.

You don’t know everything yet.

Her stomach tightened immediately.

Another message followed.

But you’re close.

Lenora stared at the screen.

Then turned slowly toward her window.

Outside, the street was empty.

Still.

Quiet.

Too quiet again.

Her phone buzzed one more time.

Ask him about the night of the championship.

Lenora’s breath caught.

She looked down at her phone.

Then at the bracelet on her wrist.

Fearless.

Her grandmother’s word.

Her choice.

She typed a reply.

Who are you?

Three dots appeared.

Then stopped.

Then nothing.

Silence.

Lenora stood still in her room for a long moment.

Then she picked up her phone and called him.

He answered on the first ring.

“Hey.”

Her voice was steady.

“I need to see you.”

A pause.

Then—

“On my way.”

Lenora looked out the window again.

And for the first time since everything started settling, she realized something very simple.

The story wasn’t over.

Not even close.
