Chapter 124: Monstrous

Isabelle’s Point of View:

After spending three hours of a very… amazing time with Achilles, he told me that he had to go back to the war. This time, it wasn’t as bad as when I heard the first time he left. Obviously, he bid me goodbye in the best way a person can, after meeting with mom and then paying a visit to the basement. It was as if everything was normal again, even though I just sent my husband in one of the most difficult mafia wars.

I still couldn’t completely understand what happened. He was suddenly way more angry at me than he normally would be, and then now he was suddenly sorry?

I guess I couldn’t judge a man like him against the parameters of a normal person. At the end of the day, I had to admit that I couldn’t be happier that I practically got him back. All my thoughts were killing me, and now it’s been quiet. A silent serene land—a change I wholeheartedly enjoyed.

I was on my merry way to Lucy and my mom to tell them what happened, well—minus the part where we enjoyed ourselves, when Lucy came to me.

“Hey, Lucy. I was just looking—”

“Isabelle,” She cut me off and looked worried.

“What’s wrong?” I asked, concern washing over me once again.

“I’m sorry but Mr. Roman’s here to see you.”

“Mr. Roman?” I asked, confused. It wouldn’t be Achilles because he literally just left and they all call him boss. But why would his father be here?

“Yes. He’s in the first room.”

I nodded as an exhale left my mouth. God, I just felt like everything was becoming fine again, and he is never good news. Leave good news, he was a person I would never wanna see at all. After what he did to me, I only saw him as a monster.

However, because Achilles was not here, I guess it was my responsibility to see to what he wanted now.

I made sure I looked fine before walking up to room 1 and knocking before entering inside. I calmed my racing heart to make sure I presented myself as a fierce woman after everything that had happened.

Sure enough, there he was, sitting on the couch.

“Wasn’t sure if you’d agree to see me,” He said as soon as I came inside.

I put up a small sarcastic smile. “Let’s just say curiosity got the best of me.”

“Let’s hope that wasn’t the case because curiosity kills the cat.”

I scoffed softly. God, I wanted this conversation to be over now. “What do you want?” I asked, ignoring his taunt.

“I see you’ve made up with Achilles.” He gestured me to sit but I ignored it.

“So now our private matters are your concern?” I asked, slightly frustrated by the intrusion. “What I and Achilles do is none of your business.”

“Sure, they wouldn’t be normally,” He stood up as he realised I wasn’t gonna sit down. “But they are when you are distracting him while he’s fighting The Blood Ravens.”

“I assume that’s the name of the mafia?” I asked, and exhaled, kinda exhausted by his constant nagging about useless things. “I’m not distracting him. If anything, I’m sure he’ll do even better now because he’s happy.”

“Well I clearly don’t care what you think, Isabelle.”

I scoffed. Fine, if he didn’t want to keep this conversation respectful, I was glad I could drop the fake respect. “And I don’t know why I should care what you think either, Mr. Roman.”

“But you will,” He had an evil smirk on his face as he continued. “You will, if you care about Achilles at all.”

“Really?” I took a step toward him. “I’m sure I know what’s best for my husband.”

“You think it’s best for him to be distracted by you right now?” He said as a matter-of-fact, “If he loses this war, he’ll die. And it will be all because of you.”

“You think you can say whatever you want and I’ll do what you say?” I said and chuckled, trying to sound as in control as I could. “Please. Just leave.”

I started to go but his words stopped me dead in my tracks.

“If you don’t do as I say, you will find that I can hurt my own son.”

I turned to him. “Wow. Are you really threatening to hurt Achilles just so I do what you say?”

“Well, we all have to use these methods sometimes,” He said and continued, “So, are you ready?”

“What do you want?” I asked, confused about what I should do. With the way he was, I didn’t doubt that he’d probably really hurt his own son. And I could do anything to save any more hurt toward him.

“I want you to tell him that you cheated on him the next time he comes back, so he never looks back at you and can focus on the war.” Those words so easily rolled out of his disgusting mouth.

“What the fuck did you say?” I blurted out as I stepped away and scoffed, “You’re delusional if you think that I will actually do something so inhumane.”

“You don’t actually have to cheat on him, my dear one,” He said with a smirk, knowing that he held the power in the dynamic. “But lying is one of your skills, isn’t it?”

“It actually isn’t, I’m not nearly as heartless as you are. God, what did Achilles even do to deserve a monster like you as his father?”

He chuckled. “Well, I guess we’ll never know. Now, I’m not actually giving you a choice so why don’t you stop trying to think, and start planning on how you’re gonna break his little heart?”

“How could you even…”

“I know what’s best for him,” he insisted as if he believed he was the good guy and continued, “When he feels that hurt, he’s gonna become stone cold. That’s what he needs to win this war.”

“You’re a fucking monster,” I said but his smile never wore off. I couldn’t understand how the fuck was he even saying those things.

“A monster in power, Isabelle,” He said as he started to walk past me. “If you don’t do it the next time he’s home, then the following time his dead body will be back.”

Those words made my heart skip a beat in fear, but I managed to maintain my composure. “And you’re okay with that?” I turned to face him.

“Well if I lose the war, then I wouldn’t let you get away with your husband, would I?”

I couldn’t even comprehend how a father could even be so heartless, so monstrous, so cruel but his words made one thing clear to me.

It was his pain against his life, and a pain could always leave one day.
