Chapter 122: Making Up For Lost Time

Achilles’ Point of View:

After thinking for a few minutes, I walked over to Lucy’s room and knocked on her door. She had been here with Isabelle all this time, so she must know her feelings best. I knew I had to apologise to Isabelle, but the more I knew about how she felt, the better it would be.

Lucy opened the door, shocked to see me. We barely ever interacted, and if we did, it was to convey a message to someone.

“B-boss?” she asked with a little uncertainty and I exhaled.

“I need to talk to you about something. Come in my room,” I said as I walked over to my room. I didn’t want to talk to her there because Isabelle might see us but I didn’t wanna barge in her private space either.

As we reached my room, it was obvious she was scared and worried about what I wanted to talk about. “Relax. This is about Isabelle.”

She nodded slowly, a load of tension leaving her forehead. “Have a seat,” I offered as I sat down on one of the chairs and gestured toward one from across to me.

She sat down and I took a deep breath before continuing.

“Look, Lucy. I haven’t been here for over a month. Not for long, anyway. However you have stayed with Isabelle for all this time.” I started, and noticed her expressions.

She nodded, understanding.

“I want you to tell me how she’s been,” I said, hoping she had been okay and only thought about leaving me this one time I overheard.

“Uh…” Lucy murmured. “I—I don’t wanna offend you, boss, but—but as Mrs. Roman’s assistant, I—I don’t think I should be interfering in her personal matters or telling anyone things she entrusted me with.”

I shook my head. “Lucy, I need to know. I’m not anyone. I’m her husband.”

She let out a light breath. After contemplating her options, I guess she finally realised that she had no other option and it wasn’t as wrong as she thought.

“She isn’t really okay,” she started off and tried to look at me, but stole away her gaze almost immediately. “She—she doesn’t show her weak moments to me, but I’ve heard her cry in her room more times than I can count. She has been… well, I won’t say depressed, but… yeah, she’s—she’s not well.”

She didn’t look up to my eyes that were visibly hurt from knowing how she had been. All because I was ignoring her for the past month.

“Oh,” I replied as silence engulfed us both.

“Would you mind if I say something, boss?” She looked at me and asked.

“No, go ahead,” I said.

“Please don’t break her heart that way, boss. It’s hard enough to be the wife of someone working as a mafia man as it is.”

Her words made me feel even more guilty. It was as if she believed I didn’t care about Isabelle at all, but I couldn’t blame her.

“I know,” I replied as I stood up. She stood up too.

“Send her to my room, would you?” I asked and a small smile appeared on her lips.

She nodded. “Yes, boss.”

I waited in my room for five minutes before someone knocked on the door. It was probably Isabelle. My breathing was uneven as I thought of how I would apologise. A million thoughts swarmed my head, and it was finally time to make up for lost time.

Anyway, I got up and opened the door. Isabelle stood there with a confused and slightly hurt expression, a faded tear in her eyes probably from all the crying she had been doing with mom.

I couldn’t wait. I pulled her into a warm hug and she was shocked, yet hugged me back tightly. I held her for as long as I could, feeling her in my arms. It was the best feeling in the world, yet my tears started falling as I hugged her. Maybe I was realising just how bad she must’ve felt when I didn’t hug her back that day.

“Isabelle,” I said as I pulled back, looking in her eyes. She smiled slightly, afraid if she should smile yet or not.

“Achilles.”

“I…” I took a deep breath. My words needed to be perfect. She was already thinking of leaving me, and any other mistake and this was ruined forever. “You know what? Sit down,” I said as I stepped aside and tilted my head toward the bed.

She shared a glance with me before going over and sitting on the bed. I sat down in front of her on the ground, and she was confused as I took her hands in mine.

“Isabelle. I’m sorry for the way I’ve been behaving,” I said softly, as I held her gaze. “I know it was… wrong.”

“What… changed?” she managed to say after a few moments.

I exhaled. “Look, Isabelle, it wasn’t your fault. You know, what happened. But I guess… I just, I didn’t see it then.”

She left my hands and stood up. I stood up too as I looked at her. She didn’t meet my eyes and was stealing it away as she continued.

“Then how did you fall out of love with me?”

“I… I didn’t,” I let out a shaky breath.

“What do you even mean?” she asked, her voice quivering with every word. “You said—you said you didn’t love anymore.”

“I just wanted to hurt you at that time, I’m sorry,” I said immediately as I touched her forearm softly.

She exhaled, closing her eyes. “Do you want a divorce, Achilles?”
