When Wolves Roar
When Wolves Roar
EMMANUELLE
His teeth sank into the other side of my neck slower this time. Not a bite of dominance, but something far more possessive, like he was branding me with a kiss of hunger and devotion.
A moan slipped from my lips before I could stop it.
My body arched toward him, desperate and trembling, as his hand slid under my shirt, fingers brushing the lace of my bra. Heat coiled in my stomach. I could barely breathe.
“Take it off, Adam,” I gasped, voice breathless and needy. “Take it all off. I need you.”
He chuckled softly, a teasing edge in his voice. “Slow down, babe.”
Was he seriously teasing me right now?
I blinked up at him, my body throbbing with need, my mind spinning. Damn it, Emmanuelle. You’re soaked and wild and losing it over this man.
His mouth trailed lower, lips grazing my stomach before he pressed a kiss just above my navel. Then he sucked on my skin hard enough to make me shiver.
I closed my eyes, a helpless sound leaving my throat. My fingers twisted in the bedsheets as waves of want coursed through me.
Then a cold breeze brushed across my skin.
I opened my eyes and gasped. I was completely naked.
“How did you?”
“Magic,” Adam said, flashing me a wicked smile. “Took both our clothes off.”
I glanced down.
My gaze landed on his prk God. Was it even fair for a man to be that big? My breath caught.
Can I really take all of that?
Adam moved between my legs, spreading them gently, reverently, like I was something sacred. The heat of his skin pressed against my inner thigh.
“I want to feel you,” I whispered. “Now.”
“Say please,” he murmured against my mouth, a smirk dancing across his lips.
“Please,” I breathed.
He aligned himself and thrust forward.
A sharp cry tore from my throat. The pain bloomed first brief and biting then came the pleasure, raw and deep, twisting through me like a storm.
“Adam”
He moved faster. His grip tightened on my hips. The bed creaked beneath us. My nails dragged down his back as tears stung the corners of my eyes.
“It... hurts,” I whimpered, voice shaking.
His pace slowed instantly. He leaned in, kissing my cheek, his forehead pressed to mine as he stayed buried deep.
“I’m here,” he whispered. “I’ve got you.”
And then, in perfect sync, our bodies tensed. A final thrust. A cry. A shudder.
We collapsed into each other, breathless and tangled.
“I love you, Emmanuelle,” he whispered, brushing my hair from my damp forehead. “I always will.”
I let his warmth lull me into sleep, heart full, body aching, soul his.
SELENA
Five Years Later
Sunlight poured into the garden, glinting off the golden curls of my daughter, Susan, as she giggled and ran circles around her nanny. Her laughter was the kind that made your heart stop in the best way. Innocent. Unburdened.
I smiled from the window, then turned back to my paperwork.
But then... a cold dread slithered down my spine. My heart skipped.
Something was wrong.
The bond between mother and child tugged hard. I froze, papers forgotten, panic rising like a wave crashing into my chest. I bolted outside.
The scene stopped me cold.
Susan’s nanny lay unconscious on the ground, blood trickling from the side of her head.
But my daughter gone.
“No, no, no...” I dropped to my knees beside the nanny, pressing my hand to her forehead. Power surged from my palm as I searched her memories.
A vision exploded behind my eyes.
Julia.
That viper.
That monster I thought was gone.
My roar tore through the air like thunder. The moon mark on my forehead ignited, glowing silver with fury.
Stephen and my mother rushed to my side. My mother grabbed my shaking hand.
“What happened?”
“Julia took my daughter,” I choked out. My voice trembled with rage.
Stephen’s eyes burned gold, already shifting. His whole body radiated fury.
“We’ll find her,” he growled, his voice raw.
“I’m coming with you,” I said, my tone sharp, unyielding.
He didn’t argue. He knew there was no stopping me.
We ran, our wolves just beneath the surface. I tracked the trail through the forest, using every ounce of my power to follow her scent.
It led us to a small, decaying hut deep in the woods.
“She’s inside,” I whispered.
Stephen nodded and signaled the guards. They surrounded the hut in silence, weapons drawn.
Stephen and I stepped inside.
And there tied to the wall was my baby girl.
Tears blurred my vision.
“Mommy!” she cried, her voice hoarse.
I started toward her but Stephen’s arm shot out.
“Stop. It’s a trap.”
A slow clap echoed through the shadows.
“Well, well,” came that snake-like voice. “Still predictable, Stephen.”
Julia stepped into the light. Her eyes gleamed with spite, her smile wicked.
“How dare you,” Stephen snarled. “You know what I’m capable of.”
She scoffed. “What more can you do? Your Luna” she sneered at me “took my powers. You watched it happen. I was supposed to be beside you! I was your girlfriend first. But you chose her.” Her finger jabbed toward me. “So I’ll make sure neither of you finds peace. I’ll take your daughter like your Luna took everything from me.”
“You’ll have to kill me first,” Stephen said, voice low and lethal.
In a blur of motion, he lunged.
He tackled her, hand around her throat, teeth bared.
“I should’ve ended you the day I had the chance,” he growled.
Julia gasped for breath, clawing at his hands.
I darted to Susan, untied her quickly, cradling her tiny body in my arms.
“Mama...” she whispered.
“I’ve got you, baby. I’ve got you.”
I turned just as Stephen’s claws ripped into Julia’s chest.
One scream and then silence.
Her body crumpled to the ground.
Stephen stood over her, breathing hard. “She’ll never touch our daughter again.”
I looked at him, at our child between us, and knew one thing for certain
This pack, this family, would always be protected.
No matter what.
