The Choice 2

The Choice 2
EMMANUELLE

No.

No, no, no.

The word repeated in my mind like a broken record, pounding louder than the silence between us.

I stared at my hand. It still tingled from where his fingers had brushed mine, but that wasn’t what haunted me.

It was the glow. That soft, golden shimmer. It had danced between our palms like a ribbon of light warm, impossible, undeniable. Something no trick of the eye could fabricate. Something my brain, logical and human, couldn’t process.

What the hell had I just seen?

I looked up, heart thudding like a warning drum.

Adam stood there, calm. Steady. Too steady. Like he hadn’t just cracked my entire reality in two.

Mate bond?

Werewolf?

I blinked hard, hoping maybe my mind had made it up. But he didn’t vanish. His gaze didn’t waver.

He was still there. Real.

Solid.

And terrifying.

“I don’t understand,” I said, my voice barely louder than breath. “What does this mean?”

His expression softened, like he was ready for this like he’d practiced the words a hundred times before standing in front of me.

“It means we’re connected,” he said. “Forever.”

Forever.

The word hit me like ice down my spine. Not the romantic kind, not the dreamy fairy tale stuff. The raw, paralyzing kind of forever. The kind you can’t undo.

I backed away, arms wrapped tightly around myself like a barrier he couldn’t cross.

“But I’m human,” I snapped. “You’ll stay young. You’ll heal. You’ll live for what? Decades? Centuries? While I wither and die?”

The thought made bile rise in my throat.

Adam stepped closer, slowly, as if I might bolt. He reached out, fingertips brushing against the back of my hand gentle, hesitant, like I might shatter.

“I won’t let you grow old, Emmanuelle,” he said softly.

My heart dropped.

“What do you mean by that?” My voice cracked, unsure whether to cry or scream. “What are you saying?”

He held my gaze with unshakable calm. “I can turn you. Into a she-wolf.”

Everything inside me seized.

I stumbled back a step, breath caught somewhere between a gasp and a choke. The edge of the coffee table hit the back of my thighs, but I barely noticed.

“You’re not serious,” I whispered. “Immortality? Transformation? You want me to just… become something else?”

Adam didn’t flinch. “I’m saying you have the choice. I’ll never force you. But the bond between us is real. You saw it.”

“I didn’t ask for this,” I whispered. “I didn’t ask to be someone’s mate. I didn’t ask to be... changed.”

His jaw tensed, but he said nothing.

“I’m not like you,” I continued, voice trembling. “I like coffee at 2 a.m. and falling asleep on the couch during bad TV. I bleed when I trip on the stairs. I cry during sad commercials. I get pimples before big meetings, and I age normally.”

A pause.

He still didn’t speak. Just stood there, watching me fall apart.

“I’m not some chosen warrior or supernatural queen. I’m just... me.”

He stepped forward again, slower this time, his voice nearly a whisper. “And I love you exactly as you are. But the truth is on the table now, Emmanuelle. And so is the choice.”

The room felt smaller. Too quiet.

He wasn’t pleading. Wasn’t trying to convince me. He was just… waiting.

As if somehow, the hardest decision I’d ever make belonged solely to me.

My heart screamed. My head raced. And somewhere in the chaos, one truth sat still.

I loved him.

But was love enough to change everything?

AUTHOR’S NOTE

Emmanuelle’s shock, Adam’s guilt, and the overwhelming revelation of the mate bond are only the beginning. From here, everything changes for better or worse. I wanted to show not just the fantasy element, but the human emotion beneath it: fear, love, confusion, and the weight of choice.

What would you do if you found out your soulmate was a creature of legend?

Stay tuned. The next chapters will dive deeper into what it truly means to be bound by fate… and if love alone is enough to survive it.
