Chapter 79

"It is indeed good news, but I still have a lot of questions,” Samantha said.

“Is it the same question that you asked me the last time we saw each other?’ Daniel asked back without looking at her and was just focused on his food.

‘So he already knows what I am curious about,’ Samantha thought.

“Then will you answer me now?” Samantha asked again.

Daniel took a pause from eating again to look at her. “Just why do you want to know so much, Samantha? I already told you that there was nothing for you to worry about anymore. Besides, I already handled it, and it was successful, so what’s the point of knowing?”

“It’s just out of mere curiosity.”

“Is that really the reason? Or is it because you are still worried about their families, especially the kids?” Daniel asked again, but in a serious tone.

Samantha sighed before answering, “The latter.”

“I knew it,” Daniel murmured.

Samantha sighed once more. Of course, she was happy that those two were out of her life. But she still couldn’t help but worry about how their families were doing, especially after hearing the plan Daniel had constructed.

“That plan you told me about. Did you... did you really execute that plan?”

Daniel, who went back to eating again, swallowed the food in his mouth first before answering without any hesitation. “Yes.”

That was the confirmation that Samantha had been wanting to hear, but she still wasn’t satisfied. Although she already had a rough idea of Daniel’s plan, it still wasn’t enough.

Their plan had ended cleanly, quietly, and sooner than she thought.

Samantha thought that executing the second part of the plan would be dramatic, with Elsa and Dean, especially Elsa, making a fuss and somehow confronting her since if anything goes wrong with their jobs, she will be their first suspect. But none of that happened.

Since the two did not come this morning and one of the higher-ups told them two new bosses would be introduced to them, Samantha had already confirmed that what Jennifer had said was the truth. And so, that made her even more curious.

If Dean and Elsa were fired the other day, then they should have been confronting her right after. Of course, she was grateful that it did not lead to that, but she was still curious. Just what kind of tactics has Daniel used for things to go smoothly?

“Did you really tell their families about their affairs? Did you meet them personally?” Samantha was able to ask after a couple of minutes of her being silent.

Daniel, who seemed to be full already, stopped eating and was already drinking water. After emptying the water bottle, Daniel finally settled all of his attention on her, looking at her and meeting her eyes. In a serious voice, he answered Samantha’s question. “For your first question, yes. I told Elsa’s husband about her affairs, and I also told Dean’s sister about that bastard’s dirty secret. As for the latter, no. I didn't meet them personally. I didn’t want to take a risk, so I used another method. Since people are now more active on social media, I decided to use that to my advantage. It was easy to find the social media accounts of Elsa’s father and Dean’s sister, and so that’s where I communicated with them. I used an alias, of course, and told them everything you’ve told me and all the things I found when I tried investigating them.

Samantha’s eyes widened. “You investigated them? You went that far?”

“Well, I had to make sure that all that information we’ve gathered was nothing but the truth. I don’t want to end up ruining families by some baseless rumors and lies.”

“And you found out that all of it was true?”

Daniel nodded. “I had evidence, and I gave it to them.”

“And how did they take the information? Did they believe everything right away?”

“I don’t know. I only sent them a long message telling them about the affairs of the two, gave them a few pieces of advice, and then attached the pictures and some screenshots. After that, I quickly deleted my fake account and threw away my SIM card so that they wouldn’t be able to trace me, unless they wanted to make the issue even bigger than it already was and spend thousands of money.”

Samantha frowned. “That’s all? That’s all you did?”

Daniel nodded again. “Yes. That’s all I did.”

“That’s easy,” Samantha murmured in disbelief, and Daniel seemed to find her reaction so amusing that he produced a few laughs.

“Why? What did you imagine would happen?”

“Well, I thought things would be a little too heated up—getting dramatic and all, you know?”

“How dramatic did you imagine it to be?”

“Like they would be confronting me, accusing me, which would be true anyway, and maybe receiving a few slaps and hair-pulling... Yeah, something like that.”

Daniel laughed heartily. “You’re watching too many dramas, Samantha. That rarely happens in real life.”

Samantha rolled her eyes. “That happens a lot in real life, Daniel. Well, I don’t know about your workplace, but in my workplace, there is a big chance of that happening. I mean, the bullying and the abuse of power are already happening in our workplace. It won’t be long, and those things I’ve mentioned will happen.”

“But those two are already gone, so maybe things won't go that far anymore.”

“Elsa’s minions are still around, though.”

“Do you want me to do something about them as well?”

“Nah,” Samantha quickly said, even waving her hand. “As I’ve said, they are just small fries. Now that Elsa and their beloved Dean are gone, they’ll surely start cowering as well. But even if they continue to be spiteful, I could just easily reprimand them and correct their crooked behavior.”

“Okay. But if things get worse again, tell me right away, and I’ll think of another plan to make them behave.”

Samantha genuinely smiled. “I will.”

Both of them turned silent after that. But after a couple of minutes, Samantha spoke again.

“What do you think their families did after finding Elsa and Dean’s respective affairs? What do you think happened to their kids? Both Elsa’s and Dean’s sister’s kids? Did Elsa's children find out about their mother’s affair? How do you think Dean's niece and nephew felt when they found out that their father was having a sexual relationship with their own uncle? They must be in pain, right?”

Yes. That’s right. Dean was having a sexual relationship with his own brother-in-law. It turns out that Daniel was a closeted bisexual. Being a closeted bisexual wasn’t supposed to be a problem because there is nothing wrong with that. It only became a problem when, out of all the people in the world, he chose to have a sexual relationship with his sister’s own husband.

Samantha knew that she and Daniel had no right to judge him. After all, they are also having a taboo relationship, but at least none of them are married, and no kids will get hurt once their relationship gets known.

“I am not sure, but I don’t think they will be telling their kids about the affairs of their parents and their uncle. Not until they are old enough, I think, to withstand the pain that that truth would bring. After all, Elsa’s husband and Dean’s sister seemed to be the kind of parents who would do anything just to not put their children in a situation that would hurt them.”

“You think so?” Samantha asked.

“Yep.”

Samantha smiled again and said in a somber tone, “I hope that’s really the case.”

Despite the smile, Samantha still looked a little dispirited. And Daniel was quick to notice that. And so, to break the gloomy atmosphere that’s starting to surround them, Daniel spoke again in a cheeky voice.

“Anyway, since I believe I did a good job in making our plan successful, don’t you think I deserve a reward?”

The dispirited look on Samantha’s face and the gloomy atmosphere surrounding them vanished in an instant, right after he dropped that question.

With one of her eyebrows raised, Samantha asked, “You want a reward?”

Daniel nodded eagerly. “I know I volunteered to help you, but don’t you think that giving me a reward is still reasonable? Don’t worry, the reward I will be asking for is not something big.”

Samantha kept quiet for a few minutes, looking like she was thinking hard about what Daniel, who was patiently waiting like a puppy, had said.

“Alright,” she finally said. “What reward do you want?”

Daniel’s smile widened. And in an enthusiastic voice, he answered Samantha. “A date. A date with you is the reward that I want.”
