Chapter 115 My wife is getting suspicious

Chapter 115 My wife is getting suspicious
Knox

The car horn is blaring outside, it is really loud. My heart is beating fast like it is going to jump out of my chest.

My wife is back, this is not good. I do not need this now.

I get up from the bed quickly. I look at Emma, she is holding the sheet tightly around her body and she looks scared.

"You need to get out of here before my mom comes upstairs," she whispers, her voice shaking.

I nod, there is no time to talk. I put on my boxers. My shirt, I do not even bother to button it. I rush to the door and I open it. Stepping out.

I run into my wife, Gina, face to face.

I am really scared, my stomach is turning. I need to calm down.

I force a smile as I close Emma's door behind me. It makes a click.

"My love," I say, my voice is soft and sweet. I am surprised at how my voice sounds. "When did you get back?"

Gina does not answer, she just looks at me. Her eyes are hard; as if they are searching for something.

I hope she does not smell the sex on my skin. I hope she does not notice my hair or my fast breathing.

Finally she sighs, "I have had a long day."

This is an opportunity for me. I step forward and put my arms around her. "Come here baby, you need to rest."

She relaxes her body against mine. We stand in the hallway for a moment. My heart is beating fast.

I take her hand and we walk slowly to our bedroom. Every step feels like a countdown.

The door closes behind us and she drops onto the bed. Pulls me down with her. Suddenly I am on top of her and our bodies are close.

Her hands move up my back slowly like she owns me.

"I have missed you baby," she says, her mouth against my neck. "Make love to me."

My stomach turns. I do not want to do this.

The only woman I want now is Emma. Gina is my wife. I have not felt anything for her in a long time. When she touches me I feel guilty and annoyed.

I freeze. I do not know what to do.

She notices, her fingers stop moving.

"Knox?" she says.

I clear my throat "Baby let us just rest tonight okay? I am really tired."

Her body gets tense. "Tired?" she says.

"Yes I have had a day too," I try to roll off her but she holds me tight.

"You were in Emma's room " she says.

"The pipe was leaking, so I fixed it,” I lied to her.

She looks at me, her eyes narrow. "You smell different."

I panic. "I was under the sink, it was probably sweat and old pipes."

"Knox," she says, her voice low and angry. "Look at me."

I look at her and I meet her eyes.

"You have been acting strange for weeks, " she says. "You are always distant, always busy, always disappearing. Now I come home and find you coming out of Emma's room looking like you just ran a marathon."

"Gina, come on," I say. "You are tired, you are overthinking."

"Am I?" she says, she pushes me back. And sits up. "Because from where I'm sitting it looks like my husband is lying to my face."

I get angry. "What do you want me to say? That I am cheating? Is that what you want to hear?"

Her face changes and she looks shocked, hurt and angry.

"Do not turn this around on me," she spits. "You think I am stupid? You think I do not notice how you barely touch me anymore? How you flinch when I try to kiss you? How you look at Emma like—"

"Like what?" I say, my voice is rising.

"Like you want something from her, " she fired.

Her words hang in the air; they are sharp and accusing.

I laugh bitterly. "You are crazy."

"Am I?" she says, she gets off the bed. Stand in front of me. "Then explain why you have been sneaking around. Why do you act like I do not exist? Why do you smell like perfume, that's not mine."

"I work, Gina, " I counter. "I have a life outside this house."

"That is not true," she says, her voice cracking. "You are lying. Tell me the truth for once."

I stand up, taller than her. "You want the truth? Fine. I am tired of pretending. Tired of coming home to arguments. Tired of feeling like I am walking on eggshells in my house."

Her eyes fill with tears "So you are tired of me?" she says.

I sigh. "Come on, do not talk like that."

Gina's mouth drops open. "You are making it hard for me."

I run my hand over my face, frustrated. "This conversation is over."

"No it is not,” she says, she steps closer to me. "You do not get to walk. Not, after everything. I stayed with you, I gave you my body, I supported your company. And this is how you repay me?"

"Repay you?" I scoff. "You think marriage is a transaction? I am not your employee."

"You are my husband, " she shouts. "Or have you forgotten that too?"

"I have not forgotten anything," I say, my voice loud. "I am not going to sit here and let you accuse me of things when you have spent months treating me like I am the enemy."

"Because you are." Tears were streaming down her face. "You stopped loving me, you stopped wanting me. I can feel it.”

I lost my patience. "Enough!"

I grab her face with both hands, roughly.

Her eyes widen and she looks scared.

I kiss her, rough and desperate.

I do not want her. I just need to shut her up. I need to stop this fight before she finds out about Emma. Before everything falls apart.

She gasps and she fights me for a second.

Then she stops, her fingers curling into my shirt. She kisses me back, hungrily.

I kiss her harder and deeper. Like I am trying to drown out the guilt that is eating me alive.

I am trying to make her forget what she almost found out.

I am trying to buy myself time.

Because the truth is coming and when it does, nothing will be the same.
