Chapter 155 THE LIES BURIED INSIDE THE TRUTH

Chapter 155 THE LIES BURIED INSIDE THE TRUTH
Ethan did not die,That was the first lie.
Clara felt his heartbeat slow beneath her palm, fragile and uneven, but still there. The presence above them watched in silence as the origin chamber collapsed inward, layers of reality folding like burning paper.
“Why is he still breathing,” Clara demanded, her voice breaking. “You said the system was dying.”
“It is,” the presence replied calmly. “But Ethan was never sustained by the system alone.”
The Architect screamed as its form fragmented violently, pieces of its consciousness tearing free and dissolving into nothingness. “He cannot survive separation. His existence is tethered to me.”
“No,” the presence said. “His obedience was tethered to you. Not his life.”
The words hit Clara like a second impact.
She looked down at Ethan again, realization blooming into terror. “You were lying to him,” she whispered. “You wanted him to believe he had to replace you.”
The presence did not deny it.
“I wanted to see if he would choose sacrifice over control,” it said. “And he did.”
Eliana staggered forward, fury blazing through her exhaustion. “You manipulated him.”
“I tested him,” the presence corrected. “Because the truth is worse.”
The chamber lurched violently, throwing Clara to the side as Ethan’s body lifted off the ground, suspended by unseen forces. Symbols burned across his skin, ancient and alive, rewriting themselves faster than Clara could track.
“Eliana,” Clara screamed. “What is happening to him.”
Eliana’s face drained of color. “They are awakening what the system suppressed.”
“What does that mean,” Clara demanded.
Eliana swallowed hard. “It means Ethan was never just an anchor. He is a convergence.”
The presence spoke again, its voice heavier now. “When the system was created, it did not erase freedom. It imprisoned it. In fragments. In bloodlines. In one living vessel.”
Clara’s heart slammed painfully. “You put it inside him.”
“No,” the presence said softly. “We hid it in him.”
Ethan convulsed violently as power erupted outward, light and darkness no longer separate but fused into something terrifyingly vast. The fracture above them expanded, revealing countless collapsing realities tethered to Ethan like threads.
If he fell, they would fall with him.
Clara pushed herself upright, ignoring the screaming pain in her body. “Then stop this. Let him be human.”
“There is no undoing this,” the presence replied. “Only direction.”
The Architect laughed bitterly even as it died. “You see now. He was never meant to choose love. Love destabilizes convergence.”
Ethan screamed suddenly, his eyes snapping open as memory flooded him all at once. Not fragments. Everything.
He saw himself across lifetimes, dying and returning, each time forgetting, each time loving Clara in different forms, different worlds. Always finding her. Always losing her.
“Clara,” he gasped. “We have done this before.”
Her breath caught. “What do you mean.”
“You always stop me,” he whispered in horror. “Every time I become this. Every time you tear the power away.”
The presence watched her carefully. “She was the failsafe.”
Clara shook violently. “No. I do not accept that.”
“You already enacted it,” the presence said. “Again and again.”
The chamber shook violently as the last remnants of the system collapsed. The future visions returned briefly, not imposed this time, but remembered.
Clara saw herself killing Ethan.
Not out of hate.
Out of mercy.
She screamed.
“I will not do it again.”
The presence’s voice softened. “Then the cost will be different this time.”
Eliana grabbed Clara’s arm desperately. “If you refuse to sever him, the convergence completes. Ethan will ascend beyond time. He will not belong to this world anymore.”
Ethan turned his head toward Clara, tears burning in his eyes. “If I leave now,” he said quietly, “the world survives. You survive.”
Clara shook her head violently. “I do not want a world without you.”
The presence raised its hand.
A new fracture opened.
Not above them.
Inside Clara.
She gasped as something was pulled free, a strand of her light separating painfully from her core.
Eliana screamed. “Stop. That is her mortality.”
The presence spoke with terrible calm. “If she will not end him, she will follow him.”
Clara collapsed to her knees as her light dimmed sharply, fear clawing at her chest. “What are you doing to me.”
“Changing the ending,” the presence replied.
Ethan roared in fury, power surging violently as he fought the pull. “Do not touch her.”
But it was too late.
The bond twisted.
Not broken.
Redirected.
The fracture widened into a doorway of blinding brilliance.
“You may walk together,” the presence said. “But you will never return as you are.”
The world began to dissolve around them.
Eliana screamed Clara’s name as the ground vanished beneath her feet.
Ethan reached for Clara desperately.
And the doorway began to close.
