Chapter 51 Chapter 52
Wiping her tears, Marlie had moved away from Chad, realizing she had nothing to say. Due to the distance between them, she couldn't hear what Spark was saying.
But did she really believe she was saved? Did she truly think Spark would support her wholeheartedly? If so, she was simply joking by placing her trust in Spark now.
That devil was definitely going to tell Chad. He can't hide anything from his brother, especially something that will make him happy. After all, she is not Charlie.
Spark burst into laughter at the disappointment on Chad's face. He was really enjoying the look on Chad's face. Looking at Chad, he couldn't help but think, "She is right in front of you, dude."
Chad was furious with Spark for his nonsense. He stood up in frustration and cast a suspicious glance at Marlie, still not convinced that was what Spark was referring to.
He knew there was something off about the two of them. Spark picked up his phone, stared at Chad, and secretly sent him a message. But Chad refused to shift his attention from Marlie to his phone.
Spark approached a trembling Marlie and whispered in her ear, "This is how you deal with your enemy, you stupid brat!" Despite her fears, which had somewhat subsided, Marlie mouthed to Spark, "Jerk!"
Chad stared at them suspiciously. He didn't need to be jealous of them because these cunning people right in front of him were making it blatantly obvious that something was wrong and they didn't like each other.
No matter how many words Spark used to persuade Chad, or should I say pretend to persuade Chad, he was convinced they were lying to him.
With a scrutinizing gaze, he looked at Marlie. He refused to look at Spark, who was signaling him to pick up the phone and read the message.
"Charlie, what were you going to confess to me?"
"I wanted to..." Marlie didn't know what to say to redeem herself. Her mind was too clouded to think clearly, and she closed her eyes to think properly.
In the seconds that she closed her eyes, Spark signaled Chad again to read the message he sent him.
Chad shot a glare at Spark, reluctantly picking up his phone and opening the message. He was totally shocked by the message before his eyes.
"Don't do anything stupid with what I'm going to tell you. I warn you not to let her know, not even a fucking hint, that you know her identity. SHE IS... MARLIE!"
Chad's eyes popped out in shock registering what he just found out. His heart felt like it wanted to come out of his chest. Chad held his chest tightly. At this stage, he needed support and rushed to sit in his chair.
Spark stood in front of Chad mouthing to him, "Damn it! Control yourself, dude!"
In order not for Marlie to find out what was happening, Spark had blocked Marlie from seeing Chad's state as he continued his pretense.
"She wanted...to tell you... I'm taking her out," Spark intervened once again. Well, if that's what Marlie had been thinking, then she was wrong once more. Because the devil's friend is always a devil.
Marlie now believed she needed to talk to Spark. She definitely had to have a conversation with him. She thought she had to make sure to clarify things with him.
To protect herself, Marlie needed to ensure that Spark wouldn't snitch on her. If only she knew she had been found out.
But Chad calmed himself down, holding tightly to the desk so as not to give himself away out of joy. Chad knew Spark would never joke about something like that. So he wholeheartedly believed him.
Not to mention how his wife had become a completely different person with his little pumpkin attitude. He was overjoyed. God is indeed merciful towards him.
After all these years, his little pumpkin has finally returned to his arms again. He would never let go of this opportunity regardless.
"That... was the confession?" Chad asked, his scrutinizing emotionless gaze now on Marlie. He was fighting with his inner demons not to pounce on Marlie and claim her right in his office.
"Control yourself! Control yourself Chad. Your self-restraint is currently in need." He chanted to himself inwardly over and over again.
"No, actually she confessed how boring you are! Bro, don't you see how Charlie has changed? She resembles her sister more with her newfound attitude if not for her face. What was her name again?... Oh right, Mar--lie!" Spark said with a sly grin and Marlie glared at him furiously.
That asshole is intentionally provoking her.
Chad looked like a statue sitting on his chair. He didn't want his eyes off Marlie. He was overjoyed.
"I guess I'm the best guy to take care of her?" Spark tried messing with Chad again.
Chad coldly turned his face to Spark and clenched his jaw.
"You asshole! Can you shut up? Why are you messing with me?" Chad sneered at him.
Spark, still smiling, returned the gesture and as if he could hear Chad's thoughts, he replied in his own mind, "How could I have savored the emotional expression on your face now if I shut up!"
"Charlie, what about having lunch this afternoon?" Chad asked, accompanied by a forced smile directed at Marlie.
But Spark interrupted Marlie before she could respond, causing her to look at Chad as if she wanted to accept his offer. Was she crazy?
"Sorry, dude, but you have to wait in line," Spark said. Chad glared at him. How dare he try to stand between them?
"Charlie?" Chad asked, waiting for her to clarify who she intended to go out with.
But disappointment set in as Marlie replied, "Sorry, I can't refuse Spark,"
Spark gave Chad a provocative smirk and Chad felt irritated. He couldn't stand the fact that his little pumpkin chose Spark over him.
"Okay," Chad reluctantly agreed, passing daggers at Spark who was wearing a smug face to tease Chad.
Chad got up to leave, but when he approached the door, he thought of saying goodbye to his beloved woman. He couldn't just leave that.
No wonder his heart beats faster whenever he's near her nowadays. It turned out he was falling for Charlie, but rather his heart had recognized who it beat for.
He stood behind Marlie gently and brushed her hair aside, startling her. He gazed at her trembling shoulders and whispered in her ear, his breath caressing her delicate skin. "Rest assured, I'll be waiting for you, my dear wife!"
He noticed her shiver at his words and smirked, his gaze shifting between Marlie's profile and directly meeting Spark's eyes.
At the sight of that, Spark couldn't help but chuckle to himself, thinking, "You surely have no idea who you're dealing with, Margaret!"
Relief washed over Marlie, causing her to heave a heavy sigh, when Chad finally left the room. But did she truly believe she was saved? It was nothing but a figment of her imagination!
As soon as Chad closed the door behind him, he discreetly slipped his hand into his pocket and retrieved his phone.
He needs to send a message to Spark. He couldn't leave his rival back there like that with his little pumpkin even though she's not Charlie.
Shadow:::
{"Fucking Asshole! You are dead when I catch you!"}
Spark read Chad's message and burst into boisterous laughter. He turned towards Marlie, who was filled with relief, but carried a face of disdain.
"Hello, brat!"
Spark greeted Marlie with a smile, though she mustered a forced smile in return, completely unaware of the true intention behind Spark's grin.
A smile that conveyed the message:
"I've just sold you out, Marlie!"
"Hello, jerk!"
Marlie responded, using the nicknames they used to call each other back in college.
"How did you enjoy the show?" Spark teasingly inquired, a smug expression adorning his face, much to Marlie's annoyance. He had intentionally orchestrated this show to make her suffer?
"I see you're finally using your brains."
Marlie retaliated angrily. But to her surprise, instead of getting angry, Spark seemed to derive satisfaction from her words, unaffected by her attempts to provoke him.
"Yes, I thought so too. You've been inspiring me." Spark teased, his tone serious before offering a smile to Marlie. She forced a smile back at him.
"I'll be waiting for you in my car..." He took a glance at Marlie and remarked,
"You look awful in those clothes! They suit Charlie best!" before brushing past an irritated Marlie and exiting the room.
Marlie exhaled deeply before venturing outside. She had to go out with Spark. In her bedroom, Vien had been anxiously awaiting Marlie's return.
"So, how did it go? Did you inform him, or did Spark?" Vien interrogated as Marlie came into view.
"That infuriating jerk was merely toying with my emotions. Damn him!" Marlie vented angrily, causing Vien to sigh with relief. "At least Chad remains oblivious for now."
"I must ensure he remains in the dark, especially about my true identity as Marlie!" Marlie lightly touched her makeup and proceeded outside taking her purse and engrossed in her phone, leaving Vien inquiring about where she was going.
Upon reaching the car, Spark's driver opened the door, revealing that Spark was already seated.
Marlie glared at Spark, who didn't bother to acknowledge her, and questioned why she was still lingering by the door. "Unlike Chad, I lack patience. So hurry up and get your ass in here!" Spark said casually.
Marlie shot him an irritated look before settling into the car. She had no choice but to play along, "But not for long, jerk. Because I'm only tolerating you!" Marlie mused to herself. "And when my patience runs out, you will pay."
In this case, who knows who will become the predator and who will become the prey?
