Chapter 288

"Don't worry, I won't hold you responsible," Jessica's voice was gentle, as if she meant what she said.

But at that moment, I couldn't let my guard down, fearing she might be testing me.

If that was the case, she would know that my words about taking responsibility for her were just to appease her, and she would probably not want to be intimate with me anymore.

So, I looked at her very seriously, holding her face in my hands, our eyes locked.

"Jessica," I called her name seriously to show my sincerity, "Listen to me, I am an adult capable of taking responsibility. If you were really pregnant, I would definitely take responsibility and be with you in a normal relationship. And now you suddenly tell me that you don't want me to be responsible for you, you're actually looking down on me, thinking I can't handle this responsibility."

After my serious confession, there was a brief silence in the car, and the atmosphere between us became tense.

After a few seconds, Jessica was the first to break the silence. "I know you are a responsible and caring man, but I also have my concerns."

"What concerns?" I asked.

"First of all, I am a career woman, and appearance is very important in the workplace for women. While having a child may be a lifelong wish for some women, it's not my goal," Jessica continued, "After having a child, I would face body changes that could make me less attractive. I don't want to take that risk, so even if I were really pregnant, I would choose to terminate the pregnancy."

I looked at her in surprise, unable to say a word for a while.

She and Scarlett seemed to be good friends, and Scarlett's biggest wish was to have her own child and become a mother.

But Jessica didn't want to have a child because she didn't want her body to change.

The difference in lifelong pursuits between these two women was so significant.

"But having an abortion can cause significant harm to your body." I shook my head, disagreeing her choice.

Jessica said firmly, "The short-term harm is much less than the long-term harm, and this is a decision I have carefully considered, and no one can change my mind."

I deliberately showed a look of regret and sighed lightly, "Well, I respect your decision. But just to be safe, I think you should still get checked before you find you're pregnant. It's better to terminate the pregnancy early to minimize the harm to your body."

Jessica nodded slightly, "Okay, I understand."

I looked at her eyes and cooed, "Then when you go for the check-up, call me? I'll go with you."

"Sure, knowing you're responsible, I'll have you cover the cost of my check-up." Jessica smiled happily, holding my face.

Perhaps she was pleased to meet a man like me who was serious and responsible?

I smiled, "Of course I'll."

After saying that, I kissed Jessica passionately.

Jessica also cooperated seriously with our kiss.

As I extended my tongue, she opened her lips to let my tongue into her mouth, allowing our tongues to intertwine and dance inside her mouth.

The temperature inside the car rose again, as if we were both trapped in an oven.

The heat between Jessica and me was rising, and it felt like the blood in our bodies was boiling.

But Jessica's phone rang, it was her company calling her.

I had to reluctantly let her go.

Jessica waved her hands toward me. "You go ahead, I'll go home first, then go see Ms. Taylor with Scarlett."

I nodded and waved back, "Okay, be careful on your way."

Jessica got dressed, pressed a button on the key, then sat up and pressed a button on the side of the trunk.

The trunk door opened slowly, and Jessica jumped out of the car before I could follow and close the trunk door.

Jessica stood by the car window, using the reflection as a mirror to make sure her outfit was neat before walking towards the stairwell.

I watched Jessica leave from the car, only turning my gaze away when she disappeared from my view.

I checked every pocket on my clothes, but I couldn't find my phone.

Where was my phone? Did I leave it on the desk at the office? Or somewhere else? Jessica's office? Or Grace's office?

Losing my phone in anyone's office would be troublesome.

I hurried to the security office of the company and used the security guard's phone to call my own.

The phone rang for a while before being hung up.

Could someone have picked it up?

It was my first phone Scarlett gave me, and it was also the first gift she gave me, so this phone was very important to me.

I dialed another number quickly, but it was hung up.

Even the security guard got impatient, urging me, "Hey, guy, what's wrong with you? Get dumped? Your girlfriend seems don't want to answer your phone! Come on, give me back my phone!"

I said with unpleasure. "I told you I just lost my phone, so I borrowed yours, or how could I find my phone?"

The security guard retorted, "But no one answered your phones; maybe your phone has been picked up by someone long ago; just quit it! You work here, so a phone won't cost you much; just buy a new one!"

I rolled my eyes, "Bullshit!"

As I argued with the security guard, I dialed quite a few times, but all failed to connect.

Surprisingly, as I felt disappointed and hopeless, the call was finally answered this time.

"Hello, who is that? This phone you have is mine, please return it to me immediately," I spoke quickly and impatiently.

"So now you're looking for your phone?" The voice on the other end carried a hint of playfulness.

But the voice sounded familiar, was it Vivian?

"Vivian?" I asked in confusion.

"Congratulations, you got it right," Vivian said cheerfully.

"How did my phone end up with you?" I asked, feeling confused.

"Maybe it fell into my car when you were getting busy in the car just now," Vivian explained.

"Where are you now? I'll come find you and get my phone back," I asked.

"I'm at a hotel near your company, turn right when you go out, then you can find it." Vivian's voice was light and airy, with an unpredictable emotion.

I had a vague feeling that something wasn't right, but I couldn't pinpoint it.

"Okay, can you tell me your room number? I won't be able to contact you without my phone," I added.

Vivian replied, "609, sixth floor."

"Okay," I remembered the room number and then hung up the phone.

After hanging up, I thanked the security guard and went straight to the hotel she mentioned to find her.
