"What? Seriously?" I asked, totally shocked.
I couldn't believe Selene actually bent the rules for me.
For a moment, I didn't know if I should be grateful or worried.
She reminisced, "Yeah, back then, Sophia came to me and said she wanted to introduce me to a young guy. She said you were super handsome and in great shape. She kept going on about how you had a great personality, honest and upright."
"She talked you up so much that I got curious and decided to meet you," she added.
"From the first time I saw you, I was hooked by your looks. And later, when I found out you don't drink or smoke, and even when I got drunk and stripped in front of you, you didn't take advantage of me. That's when I knew you were different. You're genuinely a good guy," she continued, with a soft look in her eyes.
Hearing such high praise from Selene made me feel a bit embarrassed since I'd never been complimented like that before.
"I'm not that good," I said modestly.
"Don't be so modest. But tit for tat, I'm really happy with how you performed just now. So, tell me, what do you want? As a reward, I can grant you any wish, whether it's money, a car, or a house."
Selene turned over and lay beside me, her body pressing against mine. Her breasts occasionally brushed against my shoulder, sending a shiver through me.
I lay on my side, looking at her, and told her what I needed.
"I actually came here for my family. I heard the company is opening a new branch, and Sophia applied to be the vice president."
"So, the HR director position is now open, and my brother's wife is a team leader in the HR department. I'd like to ask you to promote her," I said slowly. "Money can run out, and cars and houses get old, but a promotion and a raise provide lasting benefits. Don't you think?" I explained.
Selene didn't agree right away but stared at me for a while.
Finally, she spoke, "Did your brother's wife send you here?"
"No, no, I originally thought just sleeping with you was enough. But when you suddenly asked me to make a request, that's when I thought of this," I quickly explained.
I had wanted to discuss the plan with Sophia and Scarlett at the time.
But then I realized it might sound like I was using her if this got back to Selene.
Who would want their hard work to be used by others? So I changed my words, making it seem like I didn't really want to use her.
Selene continued, "The money from a promotion and a raise does belong to oneself in the long run, but why don't you promote and raise yourself?"
I knew she was trying to help by understanding more before making a decision, and also to prevent me from being misled by others. Or maybe she was just worried about helping the wrong person.
With that in mind, I said calmly, "I get that, but I'm just a new employee who just finished the probation period. If I get promoted and a raise right after becoming a regular employee, others will doubt my professionalism."
"At the same time, I also have to consider if I'm capable, and there aren't any open positions for promotion in our department," I continued.
"Anyway, no matter how I look at it, promoting my family member seems like a good move," I added.
After thinking it over, Selene found nothing wrong with my reasoning.
Finally, she nodded and agreed, "You've thought this through. Go grab my phone from my bag. I'll call the company."
"Okay!" I couldn't hide my excitement. I jumped out of bed, ran to the door, and picked up Selene's bag from the floor. I fished out her phone and hurried back to the bed, lying down beside her and handing it over.
The phone was unlocked with facial recognition.
But after Selene unlocked it, she didn't mind me looking through her contacts.
I watched as two familiar names popped up, Sophia and Robert.
Then she scrolled down, and I saw several names I didn't recognize.
Finally, she called a contact named "Vincent Turner."
The phone rang for a couple of seconds before someone picked up.
"Hello, Ms. Peterson. What can I do for you?" The male voice on the phone sounded very familiar.
It seemed like I had just heard it at the meeting today, but I couldn't place it.
After all, at the meeting today, I hadn't learned the names of the men Robert brought.
With the speaker on, I could hear their conversation easily.
"Mr. Turner, I heard the HR director position is open?" she asked.
"Yes, Sophia is being promoted to vice president of the branch, so the HR director spot is vacant. Are you calling to recommend someone for the position?" Vincent asked cautiously.
Vincent, being in his position, must have been used to this kind of situation.
When Selene called and mentioned the HR director position right away, he must have guessed why she was calling.
"Yes, I think Scarlett from your company is quite qualified. She joined with Sophia and has been very dedicated, never making any mistakes. She seems like a good fit," Selene said calmly.
"Do you have any relationship with Scarlett?" Vincent asked, trying to figure out the connection.
"That's none of your business. Just do as I say. Also, don't mention that I recommended her for the director position," Selene said seriously.
Selene was smart. She wouldn't just spill the truth. By not confirming or denying her relationship with Scarlett, she left room for Vincent to speculate.
This way, he wouldn't target Scarlett because there was no relationship, and he wouldn't overly flatter her just because there was one.
And no matter what, Vincent would show more respect to Scarlett, and even Ryan's treatment would improve.
Hearing that, Vincent said respectfully, "I understand. Don't worry, I'll handle it properly and won't cause any trouble for you or Scarlett."
"Okay, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up," Selene said, ready to end the call.
"Alright! Have a good rest!" Vincent replied.
