"I'm not physically tired, perhaps mentally. Maybe it's because I just started working, and my body hasn't caught up yet. It should get better after a while," I said.
Honestly, I was not even mentally tired. I was just not that into Sophia.
Before Scarlett came into the picture, I might've had a bit more patience with Sophia and hung out with her.
But now that Scarlett was down to hook up, I had lost all interest in Sophia. Even if she stood naked in front of me, I wouldn't care.
Sleeping with her was just because I was horny and needed a release.
And if I had to find a stand-in resembling Scarlett, Mia would be a better choice than Sophia.
First, Mia and Scarlett were both tall and gorgeous, handpicked by the guys at work without any consideration to their backgrounds.
Secondly, Mia's body was similar to Scarlett's. They both had full chests. Mia's might not be as big as Scarlett's, but they were still way better than Sophia's, which I could hold with one hand and still had space between my fingers.
"Alright, but you need to get it together quickly. You're meeting my distant relative in three days. If you show up like this, she definitely won't help you," Sophia said, changing the subject.
"Okay, got it. But I'm curious. Robert's already a CEO. Why do you still want to compete for the vice president at a subsidiary? Wouldn't it be better just to be a lower-level exec with less work and more money?" I asked.
This whole thing had been confusing me since Sophia brought it up.
Sophia, a bit annoyed, explained, "I used to think like you. I was the HR director at Robert's company. I hired all his assistants and secretaries to make sure he wouldn't cheat. But I underestimated him. He still managed to hook up with a new female employee from another department."
She got angrier as she went on, "I believe promotions should be based on merit. What really matters is having real power, wealth, and status. Everything else is just nonsense! And he's a jerk! If I hadn't suggested to my relative to give Robert the CEO position back then, would he be where he is today?"
"Robert can't even compare to Ryan's achievements! He's just a useless piece of trash," Sophia said, clenching her fists like she wanted to punch Robert if he were there.
Seeing that, I asked, "If he's cheating, why don't you just divorce him? You could get a divorce, then have your relative remove him from the CEO position. That way, you still have real power, and he gets what he deserves."
Sophia shook her head and said, "You're oversimplifying marriage. If I divorce Robert, what about our daughter? Who would she live with?"
She stared blankly and continued, "No matter who she stays with, she'll miss out on one parent's love, right? And having the CEO position in our family's hands is better than someone else's, right? As long as Robert and I aren't divorced, we're still a family."
I didn't really get where Sophia was coming from. After all, I wasn't married and I didn't have kids. But if I found out Catherine was cheating on me, I'd end things right away, no matter how much money she offered.
"I'm gonna head out now. Take care," I said, pointing to the door.
"Okay, be safe," Sophia replied, still fuming.
I nodded, got dressed, and left.
After walking for a bit, I saw a car approaching, not too fast, not too slow.
'Probably just a neighbor,' I thought. The license plate wasn't Ryan's, so I didn't worry.
But instead of passing by, the car stopped right next to me.
I was curious when the rear window rolled down, revealing a guy who looked pretty sharp. He was in a black suit with gold-rimmed glasses, giving off a vibe like he had a lot of schemes up his sleeve.
He was dressed to the nines, not a wrinkle in sight, even after a whole day, and I thought that he was a bit too well put-together.
As I was thinking this, the guy spoke up, "You're... David, right?"
"Yeah, David Jones. And you are?"
I felt weird. How did this guy know my name?
I didn't remember meeting him before.
"I'm Robert Williams, your brother's neighbor, and Sophia's husband. She often hangs out at your brother's place with his wife. You know her, right?" he said calmly.
So this was my boss, Robert. He looked pretty good for his age.
His face was remarkably clean, with a high nose bridge and not many wrinkles.
Too bad his wife had just been with me.
"Mr. Williams, hello. Working late?" I greeted.
"Lots to do at the company. What about you? Why are you out so late?" Robert asked.
"I picked up a part-time job with a colleague. Heading there now," I said.
"Two jobs? That's impressive," Robert raised an eyebrow.
"It's fine, just trying to gain some experience. But I'm running late, so I should go," I said, checking my phone.
"Sure, but don't be late for work tomorrow," Robert reminded me.
I nodded and left.
When I got to the bar, it was exactly eleven. John and Emily were already at the front desk.
As I walked in, a woman in a black work uniform came over. She had her hair in a high ponytail and light makeup, looking very professional.
"Is everyone here? Follow me," she said.
She led us to an office. It was neat and tidy, definitely her space.
She sat at the desk, pulled out three forms, and handed them to us.
"I'm Fiona Larson, the front desk manager. Fill out these job applications with your personal info, then we'll do your fingerprints. We work from eleven at night to two in the morning, three hours total. Clock in and out each shift. The pay is two hundred dollars an hour, but if you're late, you lose a hundred. Got it?"
We all nodded, "Got it."
"Okay, fill out the forms and follow me," Fiona said, leading the way. We followed behind.
