Ophelia POV

Fox told me he had another late day today. I asked if we had made any progress to take out Murphy and he said, “I am working on it.” I was tired of all this, but we had a plan, I figured he would be trying to locate Nathan or something. Honestly everything just seemed fuzzy in my head. I had read online that pregnancy can cause something called ‘brain fog’. That had to be what was going on.

I planned on telling Fox I had a doctor’s appointment. He would have been happy that I made one. I knew he would want to be at the appointment, but apparently another thing I read online was there was nothing really going to be going on in the first appointment, other than just confirming what I already knew that I was carrying three babies inside me.

I would make sure Fox knew and could come to the more important appointments with me, but there was no need for him to come to this one. Not to mention I was meeting Greer this afternoon. She was back in town for the wedding which was four days away. I still felt cold and detached from everyone but Fox. I knew Greer would see it and try to bring me out of it, but there was no point.

I would always wear black, other than the wedding. I would never smile except for when I was with Fox. As I got in the cab I wondered if I would feel that kind of happiness Fox gave me with these three kids. I snorted, maybe I would. I hoped so, another reason I was apprehensive about having them. I knew nothing about children other than what I had been reading. Not to mention that I felt only joy from Fox.

How would I love or feel anything with anyone else? Greer had been my friend for ages, and I felt nothing but a kind of indifference. I liked her still, I knew that, but since Simion died, I felt a coldness that was not going to go away. My last connection to family besides Fox. I guess Nathan too, but he was a freak and no wonder my Uncle Mathew said he was a bastard.

“Here we are miss.” The cab driver said, and I nodded paying him and got out. It was a tall building, and I had to go up to the sixth floor. I walked in my heels clicking on the stone floor. The check in was easy enough I had what seemed like a million forms to fill out on my health. “Ms. Blake?” I looked up seeing a woman in light pink scrubs. I followed her back.

The doctor was forthright. She told me carrying triplets was high risk and among other things. Things I had read about. Like the internet said this appointment wasn’t anything that Fox needed to be here for. I left the doctor. My next appointment was just after Fox and I got back from whatever island would be our honeymoon. Though I didn’t tell her it would be a honeymoon trip.

That appointment we would have when got back would be when we found out the sex of the babies. I sat down at the little bistro that I was supposed to meet Greer at. I knew I had gotten here a little early, so I just ordered some orange juice. I pulled out my phone and I was about to text Greer to see how close she was when a familiar face appeared.

“Hello there Ophelia.” Justus said. I stared up at him he was looking down at me, while I sat there. “I like the all black look.” I rolled my eyes. Why was this guy here? “Why aren’t you wearing black didn’t your fucking bitch wife die recently?” He laughed, what a freak I thought. I knew he hated her, he had liked when I was a bitch to her, so of course he was happy she was gone. Then he sat down.

“I am waiting for my friend you should leave.” I snapped at him. Ignoring my comment Justus spoke again, “Do you know that Valentine has tails on you at all time.” I raised one of my eyebrows. I was not surprised despite never having seen them. “You know he has had them following you since you came to the city?” “So, he wants me safe.” I was pissed about having been followed but I was not going to let Justus see that. “So, it doesn’t bother you, you have no freedom?”

I took a sip of my juice. “I have always been Fox’s, since I was born, so it is no surprise to me Fox wants to know where I always am.” Justus stared at me for a long time, and it made my skin crawl. I stared right back at him “Did Valentine tell you he is finishing up this war today.” Keep a poker face I thought to myself and lied. “Yes, he told me.” His smile told me he knew that I didn’t know.

Just then Greer appeared. “Ophelia, sorry I was running late. Been busy,” she stopped talking when she noticed Justus sitting at the table. He smiled at her and Greer looked confused. “I will let you girls have your fun, Ophelia, I will see you soon.” He stood up and Greer just stood there. Justus was just leaving when he said. “Oh, and Ophelia all of this will be over very soon, I will let Fox know how much you love him.”

He walked away. Fuck, fuck, fuck, he said Fox not Valentine. Something was wrong, he would have never used his first name if he respected him. He was part of all of this. He was in with Nathan and Murphy. Greer sat down “Who was that guy?” “Greer, we need to reschedule.” I stood up quickly grabbing my purse. “Ophelia?” I ran out the bistro, chasing after Justus, he had just left he had to be close. By the time I got out of the restaurant I saw Justus. He was getting in a black sedan, then the fucking bastard smiled at me.
