Chapter 118 - My Rebellious Luna
ALPHA LUKE POV
Everything was running smoothly, we were eating and drinking. Having a normal Christmas Eve. That’s until someone showed up at the border requesting to see me. Who shows up unannounced on Christmas Eve? “What’s going on?” Becky asks when she sees Jordan and I talking. Her little sidekick Lilimar is two steps behind her.
Jordan clears his throat and I nod. I know better than to keep anything from my Luna if I don’t want to repeat history. “A shewolf showed up with a child, she is requesting to speak with the Alpha.” He said cautiously. “Did she say who she is?” Becky asked furrowing her eyebrows. “Only that her name is Hanna and that she doesn’t know Luke personally but needs to speak with him.” Jordan says with a shrug.
I had half a mind to tell her to come back after the holidays but the look on my mate’s face said that was not happening. “Bring her to the office.” I told Jordan and Becky and I checked on the kids, asking the Nana’s to keep an eye on them. As soon as we walk into the office, I take my seat and pull Becky onto my lap. “Who do you think this Hanna is?” She asks and I shake my head and shrug my shoulders.
After a few minutes, Jordan and Lilimar walk in, followed by who I assume to be Hanna and a little boy. “Alpha.” Hanna bows and I nod, gesturing for her to take a seat. “How can I help you… Hanna.” I ask cautiously. She looks around nervously and clears her throat. “My sister Meredith was Alpha Adam’s mate.” All our eyes go wide.
I had no idea Adam had found his mate. In all the investigations we did we never found one. He kept her well-hidden. I nodded for her to continue. “She… she died a few weeks after he did, she wasn’t strong enough…” She trailed off whipping a few stray tears that had fallen. My Pastelito was tense, so I held her closer and rubbed her back.
“I’m sorry.” I said and waited for her to continue. Would she really come all this way to blame us for her death? Did she expect something? “Thank you. I don’t blame you… I know that he came looking for trouble… the thing is my sister had a child before she died.” She looked down at the little boy who looked to be my cupcake's age. He had my dad’s complexion, like my twins. Brown hair and brown eyes.
He snuggled into her side. “He was born a couple weeks before his father… passed.” Around five years old. I hated that I took this little boy’s father. My Luna was already tearing up and I hated myself more. “I know that you owe us nothing but… I’ve taken care of him since his mother passed and I wish I could continue to do so…” She looked away and whimpered.
Becky stood up and went to her side. “It’s okay, you can tell us.” Wiping her tears with her sleeve she turned to Becky. “I just found my mate and he wants me to move to his pack but…” She looked down at the little boy. His big brown eyes looked around confused. “Do you want Lilimar to take him to play with the other kids while we talk?” I asked, knowing it would be hard for her to speak freely in front of him.
She sighed and nodded her head. “She’s going to take you to play, okay?” Hanna spoke softly to the little boy, who nodded and took Lilmars hand. They walked out the door and Hanna took a deep breath before continuing. “When his Alpha found out who he was, he ordered us to send him away.” She sniffled and Jordan handed her a tissue. “Thank you… my mate is the Gamma of the pack, he… he can’t leave and I…” His voice cracked.
She was in a tough situation, wanting to be with her mate but also wanting to keep her nephew. “I can’t send him to an orphanage and my parents are unwilling to help.” She frowned. Becky looked at me with pleading eyes and I knew where this was going. “There must be someone in your family that can help you, where have you been staying currently? I mean… why now?” I asked, wondering why someone in her pack couldn’t take him in.
Her face hardened and she pursed her lips. “They all know who his father is and treat him like an outcast, barely tolerating him. Everyone knows that Adam hired Rogues, kidnapped humans and did a lot of despicable things.” She sighed and shook her head. “He is our nephew, yours and mine. I was only sixteen when I began taking care of him. I… I wish I could continue to do so but, I can’t.” She asserted.
My heart broke for the little guy, but I wasn’t sure taking him in would be a good option. “I know it’s odd for me to come on Christmas eve, but if I’m being honest, I thought doing so would be hard for you to say no.” She said with a guilty look. Because how would I send that little boy away on Christmas, knowing he would end up an orphan?
I understood that she had given up so much for him already. “Why don’t you go get some food and check on… what’s his name?” Becky asked. “Adam Jr.” She said with a smile. Jordan and I cringed, and Becky narrowed her eyes at us. “Why don’t you go check on Adam and get something to eat? Meanwhile, we can talk.” She winked at her, and I saw my whole life being bulldozed.
Hanna nodded and and Jordan got up to show her around. As soon as the door closed, Becky had that hand on her hip and I closed my eyes and pretended not to notice. “Luke, we can’t let that little boy go to an orphanage when we are the reason he has no mother.” She said with determination. “Pastelito… what do you want to do?” I asked even though I already knew.
She walked over to me and sat on my lap. “Can’t we… I mean… I know it would be weird, but he is your nephew.” She whispered, unsure of what she was about to say. “We should take him in.” She finally said, looking down at her hands. “Don’t you think he would resent us when he finds out I killed his father?” I wasn’t sure I could look him in the face and not feel a bad for it.
He deserved it, but had I known he had a mate and child I would have tried much harder to capture him and keep him in the dungeon. I also know that I would have killed him either way if I felt I had to. It was horrible to admit, but I wouldn’t allow him or anyone else to kill my mate, pup or anyone else in my pack. He had done enough damage.
BECKY POV
I could see he was considering it… I wasn’t sure if what I was asking him to do was right or fair to anyone involved. My biggest concern being all the children, including him. “Luke, if we raise him right and explain things to him… I think he could turn out to be a good wolf. Doesn’t he deserve that chance?” I asked, giving him my dimpled pout. “Don’t do that, that’s not fair Pastelito.” He closed his eyes and shook his head.
“So, he goes to an orphanage?” I asked as tears welled up in my eyes. He opened his eyes and looked at my pitiful face. I wasn’t trying to be unfair, but I had become such a softy since having kids. That little boy had no blame in all of this. I wished that Hanna could keep him, that her mate would leave his pack for her… but I knew it was hard for a Beta or a Gamma to do that.
Luke’s eyes glossed over, and he sighed. “This is going to be very challenging, Becky. We can’t hide things from him and he’s going to have to grow up fast because of it.” He explained. I knew exactly what he meant, and it was horrible, but it couldn’t be helped. I nodded my head and wiped my tears as Luke kissed my cheek. This was going to be a huge adjustment for everyone involved, but I believed it was the right thing to do.
A few minutes later, Jordan, Lilimar, Hanna and Adam Jr walked in, taking their seats. “Adam Jr, do you know why you’re here?” Luke asked the little boy. He nodded his head and looked at his hands. “My aunt Hanna needs to go away, and she can’t take me with her.” He said sadly. My heart shattered into pieces seeing the sad look on his face. “Your father was my brother, I’m your uncle. Would you be willing to stay with us?” He asked, and Adam Jr looked up at him with wide eyes.
He turned to Hanna, and she nodded her head. “I would rather go with my aunt.” He said and then looked at me. “Is there room for me here? There are A LOT of kids.” He said with wide eyes, making us all laugh. “Yes, we have plenty of room for you. We know you would rather go with your aunt, but since that’s not possible, you are more than welcome here.” I said while smiling softly at him.
Looking around the room, he thought for a moment. “Would you ever come visit?” He asked Hanna. She nodded her head and held back her tears. “As often as I can, as long as it’s okay with Alpha Luke and Luna Becky.” They both turned to look at us. “You are welcome to come visit as often as you like.” Luke assured her. My Alpha was still unsure about all of this, and I could feel it.
It was his job to worry and think of every possible outcome. “Thank you.” Hanna began to sob as she hugged Adam Jr and kissed the top of his head. “I love you so much, you know that right?” She held his little face in her hands and he nodded, tears spilling from his big brown eyes. “I have to go now… but I promise to come visit as soon as I can, okay?” Her voice cracked but she tried her hardest to smile reassuring at him.
How hard it must be for her to leave him here after she raised him for the first five years. I think I would have rejected my mate. “Okay aunt Hanna, love you.” With one last hug and kiss she got up and so did I. Walking around the desk I gave her a hug and Luke and Jordan walked her to the border while LIlimar and I stayed with him. “This must be very hard for you.” I said and he nodded while looking down.
I sat next to him and took his hand in mine. “Luke and I are here to be what you need. That means if you need an aunt or uncle, that’s what we will be. Or if you need a friend, we can be that also. Whatever you need us to be, that’s what we will be.” I said and he smiled at me. “Want to go back outside and play with all those kids you saw?” I asked and he nodded enthusiastically.
We got up and began to walk out of the office. “You know, four of those monsters are mine.” I said, and his mouth dropped open. “FOUR! Were you and Uncle Luke lonely or something?” I laughed and LIlimar giggled behind us. “No… we just like kids. Especially cute ones like you.” I said and he beamed up at me. I pushed the thoughts of having to tell him about his father out of my head for the moment.
Right now, I needed to figure out how I was going to explain our new addition to my kids, the pack and my family. I know they will accept him, they have to or me los chingo a todos. (I’ll kick all their asses). I know for fact my kids will be easy. A new one appears almost every year, so they won’t notice. The adults are the ones I’m going to have to worry about. Our lives just got a little more interesting.
