Chapter 34

Chapter 34
Melek chuckled lowly, kissing the marked skin of Urik’s shoulder.

“And this refusal… will bring consequences. But for now, the only consequence that matters is how much I still want you.”

Elara shook her head, a faint smile on her lips as she put the jar away.

“I’ll prepare a calming tea. And maybe a bath. You two reek of sex and rage. Then we’ll talk about what comes next. The Council won’t wait.”

Urik nodded, feeling the mark pulse more slowly now, like a shared heartbeat. The fury still burned in his chest, but it had been tempered by Melek’s fire. The war was only just beginning, and he would not face it alone.

As Elara left to prepare the tea, Melek pulled Urik into a slow, deep kiss, tongues tangling with the promise of more.

“They will come,” the incubus whispered against his lips. “And when they do, we’ll greet them with blood and pleasure.”

Urik smiled, dark and determined.

“Let them come.”

The library fell back into silence, broken only by the crackle of the candles and the distant whisper of the forest outside. The tribute had been refused. The true harvest—of power, vengeance, and desire—was only just beginning.

Melek’s low chuckle lingered in the air like smoke as he kissed the marked skin of Urik’s shoulder once more, his lips lingering possessively over the fresh bruises. The incubus’s tail flicked lazily, still glistening from their shared release, before curling around Urik’s waist in a silent claim.

Elara shook her head, a faint smile touching her lips as she stored the jar of ointment. “I’ll prepare a calming tea. And perhaps a bath. You two reek of sex and rage. Then we’ll talk about what comes next. The Council won’t wait.”

Urik nodded, feeling the mark on his wrist pulse more slowly now, like a shared heartbeat settling after a storm. The fury still burned hot in his chest, but it had been tempered by Melek’s fire—channeled, consumed, and turned into something sharper. The war was only just beginning, and he would not face it alone.

As Elara slipped out of the library, her footsteps fading down the stone corridor, Melek pulled Urik into a slow, deep kiss. Their tongues tangled with lazy promise, the taste of salt and lingering magic passing between them. When they parted, Melek’s red eyes glowed with renewed hunger.

“They will come,” the incubus whispered against his lips, voice rough with satisfaction. “And when they do, we’ll greet them with blood and pleasure.”

Urik smiled, dark and determined. “Let them come.”

The library fell back into silence, broken only by the crackle of candles and the distant whispers of the Forest of Whispering Shadows outside. But the calm lasted mere moments.

Melek’s hands were already roaming again, sliding under Urik’s loosened tunic to trace the silver rune on his chest. “You’re still hard for me,” he observed with wicked delight, palming the growing bulge in Urik’s trousers. “That refusal lit a fire in you… and in me.”

Urik caught Melek’s wrist, but didn’t pull it away. Instead, he pressed the incubus back against the bookshelf, bodies flush once more. “Don’t get greedy. Elara will return soon.”

“Let her,” Melek purred, his tail slipping between them to tease Urik’s cock through the fabric. “She’s seen worse. Your loyal little shadow knows exactly what fuels us.”

The sound of footsteps returning made them pause, but not separate. Elara entered carrying a tray with steaming mugs of herbal tea and a basin of warm water scented with forest herbs. She set it down on a side table without comment, though her cheeks carried a faint flush.

“Drink,” she said simply, handing them each a mug. “It will steady your minds without dulling the edge you need.”

Urik accepted the tea, sipping the bitter brew while Melek drank with far less restraint, his free hand still possessively on Urik’s hip. The three of them settled into the heavy armchairs near the fireplace—Urik and Melek side by side, Elara across from them like the steadfast friend she had always been.

“So,” Elara began, her voice calm and practical, “you’ve refused the tribute. What’s our next move? The Council won’t send another polite bureaucrat. They’ll strike where it hurts.”

Urik stared into the fire, the mark throbbing in sync with Melek’s pulse. “They expect me to bleed the land dry trying to pay them or rebel openly so they can brand me a traitor. We do neither. We turn their own game against them.”

Melek’s grin was sharp, fangs glinting. “Subtle at first. I can slip into dreams—whispers in the minds of lesser councilors. Feed on their fears until they turn on each other.” His hand slid higher on Urik’s thigh under the table, squeezing. “And you, my warlock… we strengthen the bond. The more you give me, the stronger our reach becomes.”

Elara cleared her throat, glancing between them. “I’ll handle the village. Reinforce the wards around the forest edges. The trees are already restless; I can speak to the older roots, make the paths… confusing for any intruders.” She paused, eyes softening as she looked at Urik. “But you two need to be careful. That mark connects you deeper than blood. If one falls, the other follows.
