Chapter 5 ....only a bra and pants on me. How would my mum interpret this?
Saraphina’s POV
My hand lifted, my heart beating so hard I could feel it everywhere. But before I could touch his lips, his fingers closed around my wrist. His look was pure fire. Without a word, he drew my finger into his mouth.
A low, rough sound came from his chest, the sound of a man getting something he has wanted for a long time. His tongue moved over my skin in a slow, wet stroke that sent feeling rushing through my whole body. He took his time with each finger, and with every warm, sucking pull, the air between us grew thick with need.
I was already soaked, my shorts clinging to me, my desire obvious. The heat of his mouth, the fierce look in his eyes, the hard press of him against my leg, it was all too much, a perfect, overwhelming feeling. Before he was even done with my last finger, I could not take it anymore. I leaned in and crushed my mouth to his.
The kiss was deep and hungry. I could taste my own wetness on his tongue. I held his face, pulling him closer, letting him into my mouth completely. His hands found my hips, his grip strong and sure as he lifted me and turned me so I was sitting on his lap, my legs on either side of him. I moved against the hard heat of him, and a soft, helpless sound left my throat as a spark of pleasure lit deep inside me. His hands slid down, under the waistband of my shorts, his palms hot on my bare skin as he kissed me like a man who was finally able to breathe.
My breasts ached where they were pressed against his chest, our clothes a frustrating barrier. I broke the kiss only to pull my shirt off and let it fall to the floor.
“Saraphina.” My name was a broken sound on his lips. His hands were on me immediately, holding my breasts, his thumbs moving over my nipples before he gave them a soft, deliberate squeeze. I gasped, my back bowing, a bolt of sweet, sharp heat going straight to the place that throbbed for him.
“You like that?” His voice was rough, his eyes dark as he gave another gentle press.
“Cassian,” I breathed out, my hands moving up the hard lines of his arms. The feeling was incredible, a perfect mix of pleasure and a deep, empty need. He lowered his head, his tongue tracing a wet path before he took my nipple fully into his mouth. He sucked, his tongue moving in a slow, steady pattern that made me tremble and grab his hair.
I held him there, lost in the sight of him, in the feeling of his mouth on me. This was Cassian. And in this moment, he was mine.
He moved to my other breast, giving it the same devoted attention while I rocked against him, the pressure building inside me, winding tighter and tighter. I was so close, right on the edge of losing control, when the phone’s loud ring cut through the room.
He pulled away with a rough, angry curse. His eyes met mine, and for a long moment he just looked at me, sitting half-naked on his lap, my body still molded to his. Gently, almost like it caused him pain, he lifted me and set me aside, running a hand through his hair as he put distance between us.
“Saraphina, I am so sorry,” he said, his voice tight as he stood up. My eyes dropped, seeing the dark, wet patch on the front of his pants. His body was still hard, still ready for me, a silent fact his apology could not hide.
Then his phone rang again. The sound was like ice water on my hot skin. Maybe I had dreamed of a moment like this by turning off my own phone. When I feel this way, I do not want any calls or messages to ruin it.
Cassian turned away from me so fast it felt like a slap, snatching the receiver. “Hello?”
The look on his face, just for a second, told me everything. It was my mother.
He dragged a hand through his hair, trying to sound normal. “Yeah, we are both fine,” he said, forcing a laugh at something she said.
There was a pause. “Yeah, she is right here.”
My heart jumped into my throat, a wild part of me thinking she could see us through the phone. I knew this was bad, and my heart began to beat in time with my panic.
He finally held the phone out to me. I took it, my fingers brushing against his, and my first thought was to steady my voice. My breathing was already too fast, like I had been running. Would my mother hear the panting in my voice? I panicked again.
“Hi, Mom.” I deliberately held my breath, and her first question destroyed me.
“Where are you?”
What did she think? That I was in bed with my babysitter? To control the conversation, I forced out an irritated reply.
“Is that why you called? Where do you think I am, if not at home? What is Cassian even for, since you think I cannot be left alone.”
I guess I was a good actress. I did not know how those words came out of my mouth.
“Hmmm… I am sorry, I just wanted you to be safe. But I have something to tell you, though I have changed my mind about how to say it. I need to say it to your face, but promise me you will forgive me.”
“What is it?”
“I cannot say it now. I am coming home right now.”
“Right now?” I exclaimed. “Are you just leaving my uncle there with his broken leg?”
“I am sorry to say this, but I lied. I am going to explain everything to you. All I want you to do is start packing your things into suitcases. We are moving.”
“Moving where?” The line went quiet for a few seconds, and I think she did not know what to say, because she ended the call. In that moment, all the sexual heat inside me vanished. The whole time, Cassian had been watching me.
“What happened?” He waited, and when I was still frozen in shock, he tapped both my shoulders. “What are you not telling me?”
“My mom said she is coming now.”
Just before Cassian could answer, I felt a sudden gratitude that my mother had called. What if she had walked in on us? How would I ever explain that? I would have become someone she could never love again, especially since our relationship was already so fragile, and she always seemed to care more about her boyfriends than me.
“Is your mother really coming? Or is she playing a game with us?”
Did he still want to finish what we started? I gave him a look. My eyes said everything, and he quickly pulled his shirt back on. I still wanted him inside me, but what if my mother was already close to the house? What if she used her key and walked in right as I was in climax? Something Cassian had taught me. That would be a punishment worse than anything.
Then I realized Cassian had left the room, and the way I had spoken to him was not fair. It was all my mother’s fault. I am absolutely sure that whatever she was coming to tell me was about another one of her relationships. So, my mom lied to me. She knew that whenever she tells me she is going to see a man, I get upset.
“Cassian!” I called out, but he did not answer. I knew I needed to go downstairs and apologize. I had never snapped at him like that before. My own desire had made me crazy.
I went down and found him holding a glass of wine.
“Are you trying to calm down with that?” I moved closer to him. There has been this powerful pull between us ever since we had sex. Hmm… This is the thing that binds a man and a woman together. I smiled without realizing it.
“Why are you smiling? You were angry a minute ago, and I understand. Your mood…”
“I will make it up to you. I will come to your place…”
“My place?” He responded quickly. “No.”
“Why?”
“Take a drink.” He handed me the glass, clearly wanting to end that part of the conversation. Was the topic making him uncomfortable?
“Sit down. Do you want some?”
“But it is alcohol!”
“Oh, I forgot.” He stood and turned on the television, and the living room fell into a silence that was broken only by the sound of a car pulling into the driveway.
“That must be my mother…” And that was when I remembered that I had not packed a single thing. Why would she tell me to put my belongings in suitcases? Has she found some man for me and wants me to go live with him? I am not obsessed with money like my mother is. All I want is to understand why she wants me to pack my things. It was at this moment I realized that I had only a bra and pants on me. How would my mum interpret this?
