Chapter 106 Go to hell. Both of you!
When we walk out from behind the curtain, he is still laughing quietly. I give him a look that could kill and he tries to stop smiling but he can not hide how pleased he is with himself.
"Are you for real?" I roll my eyes at him. He is acting like some teenage boy who just got lucky for the first time.
He just shrugs. "What?"
"You have probably fucked a thousand girls in public places. Do not act like this is a big deal." I say. Okay that sounds kind of bad and it is probably not true, but I have seen him with girls.
The smirk on his face drops a little and he frowns at me. "What do you think I am? A stud horse?"
Not exactly a stud horse. But definitely a guy who sleeps around.
He clenches his jaw, looking annoyed that I would say that about him.
A slow song starts playing, so he holds his hand out to me. "Dance with me for this one and I will forget what you just said."
I stop. His hand stays there for a moment before he gets impatient. "What now?"
"Who did you come to this dance with?" I ask.
"No one." He says it flat.
I do not believe that. He had to have come with someone, probably Rossi. Which makes me think about the bigger thing I have been worrying about: what are we even doing?
I have figured out that Liam does want me, but not as his girlfriend. The way he acts proves that.
So just someone he sleeps with. A body when he is bored.
Because really, what feels better than hooking up with your stepsister?
But before I can figure out what I think, he grabs my wrist and pulls me into his arms. I do not even get to say anything and he is already leading me onto the dance floor.
He dances really well, smooth and graceful. I am glad I took a few lessons before so I can keep up with him.
But dancing with him still feels weird. Especially because people keep staring at us whenever they walk by.
I know what they are thinking. Stepbrother and stepsister? The popular guy and the school weirdo? Either way it is strange.
"Liam." I keep my voice low so no one around can hear. "You did not answer my question."
"God, you always have to ruin everything," he says through his teeth. "I told you. I came with no one."
"Did you ask Rossi?"
"No." He is losing patience.
"But why?" I keep pushing like an idiot.
"Because," he forces the words out, "I wanted to come to this stupid dance with you and maybe fuck you a little behind the curtain or in the bathroom! Happy now?"
His voice gets too loud so I hurry to shut him up. "Keep it down!"
He laughs with no humor and looks away so he does not have to see me. But we are only a few inches apart so it does not really matter.
I follow his steps while my brain tries to catch up.
So like my mom said, he did want to come here with me.
But why did he not just say that? Why does he have to be so confusing and all over the place all the time?
There is no way I will ever figure out what he actually wants. Even when I ask, he never gives me a real answer anyway.
Right when I am lost in my head, I hear fast footsteps coming up behind us and then someone yanks me away from Liam hard.
Nails dig into my arm. I turn and see Rossi staring at me, furious. Her face is all twisted up as she yells at us:
"What the hell are you two doing?"
I pull away from her grip and look at Liam. "You want to handle this?" Honestly, I have no idea what he is doing either.
Liam raises his eyebrows, his face not showing anything. "What is the problem?"
"You are asking me? You are my date! Where were you and why are you suddenly dancing with this pathetic little..."
"Fuck you, Rossi." I clench my fist, ready to hit her if she keeps going.
Her eyes go wide in shock and she starts to raise her hand, but Liam pulls me behind him.
"Rossi, that is enough." His voice is cold, like he is tired of her. "I never asked you to this dance, did I? And even if I did, what is wrong with dancing with my sister? Stop making a scene because you do not own me."
"You are taking her side?"
Liam just laughs, not even bothering to answer.
For a second she looks hurt and shocked. I am surprised to see her eyes start to water.
"Go to hell. Both of you!"
She stumbles back a few steps then turns fast and storms off. After that, the dance floor finally goes back to normal. People were so busy watching us they forgot to dance.
Liam tilts his head and smiles at me. "Well. Should we finish the song?"
He does not seem bothered by any of that at all. It is honestly a gift, to be able to hurt someone without caring and have everyone staring at you and not even be affected.
"Nah, I am good."
I pull away from him and walk through the crowd, trying to avoid people looking at me. He catches up and walks next to me. "You are leaving? Already?"
"It has been a long night." And a lot happened. I need to clear my head and figure out what is going on.
Before he can say anything, we see Mr. Thorne by the front gate. He is heading out too.
"You two leaving already?" He seems surprised we are going so early too.
"Yeah. Soph is tired." Liam says.
Oh. Mr. Thorne looks at both of us and that look makes me nervous.
"You are welcome to ride with me."
"No, that is okay," Liam says fast. "I will drive Soph home."
"Well if you are leaving then."
Mr. Thorne nods and says goodnight to us.
After he walks away, I let out a long breath. He can not possibly know anything. But it is still scary being around them, knowing me and Liam were just messing around a little while ago.
I hear a laugh and turn to see Liam smiling at me.
"Nervous?" he asks.
"You are not?" I do not know how he stays so calm. "Anyway, we should go home."
He raises an eyebrow at me. "Sure. But we are going to my place."
"What? No way! I am not going to your..."
He pulls me into his arms. His dark eyes look down at me, intense and hot, and my heart starts going crazy.
He runs his fingers through my hair, rubbing the back of my neck gently, and whispers in my ear:
"I meant it when I said you owe me. And it is happening tonight."
