Chapter 174

*DEBBIE KENDALL POV*

Hearing the frivolous way Kevin tells James about my certain origin sends a strong shiver down my spine. Knowing that Patricia manipulated me and that it was just my sister, caused me a great internal revolt. Tears come to my eyes when I realize that I would never have found out if Alisson and I hadn't passed by the office and heard the conversation, I would still be being deceived. The silence in the room ends up torturing Kevin in the most obvious way possible, I can see in his eyes the agony of knowing what I'm thinking since he can't guess from my expression.

“So, you lied to me, all this time...” I said with a voice full of disappointment.

“Debbie, I want you to sit down, we have a lot to talk about,” Kevin spoke, and even though he knew that his words wouldn't lessen my anger, he tried.

“You knew she was my sister and not my mother all this time. She let me go deep, I deprived her of her slow and painful death…” I repeated bitterly, feeling my whole-body tremble with anger.

At that moment Alisson took Ithan from my arms, which at least I realized, Kevin was looking at me seriously, and James had a look of astonishment.

“Patricia had done enormous damage to her emotions, I didn’t want to tell you!”

“I almost went into depression because of her lies, and you at least told me, you didn’t deny that bastard!”

“Would you have believed me after what she told you?” She asked, taking steps in front of me. “Don’t let your feelings answer for you, you know very well that I’m right!”

“You took care of finding her with Ramon, you rescued me from being kidnapped, you did everything to save me and the baby. Do you think I wouldn’t believe you?” I asked in disgust.

“I didn't want to drop that bomb on you when I found out, anyway, who cares? I have considered you my sister since long before I knew it!”

"I care!" I screamed hurt. “You have no right to say that when you know the whole truth. You have no idea what I went through at her hands, thinking she was my mother...”

“Debbie, it was hard to believe that you and my sister from the past were the same person, it was as much of a shock to me as it was to you!”

“You kidnapped me, left me in the hands of your underboss through threats, almost killed me…” The tears continued to fall from my eyes.

“I recognize that I made a mistake.”

“How kind of you.” I mocked, wiping my face.

“I don’t expect you to understand me, much less to forgive me, but I can be honest with you.” He turned to James and Alisson and said, “Leave us alone.”

They both looked at me, afraid to do what he asked, but they did it without delay. Kevin sat down on a chair and pointed to the couch. Facing me, he looked at me tenderly, he seemed to understand and support my remorse, then he sighed and revealed:

“You don’t know how happy I am to know that you’re alive, my youngest. ” He breathed a sigh of relief and smiled nervously, I had never seen him like this. Suddenly, drops of happiness fell from his eyes, it was a phenomenon to be seen. “When you were born I felt a great connection, I took more care of you than our mother, but I don’t blame her, she was a drug addict, she lived more numb than sober.”

“Did you take care of me?”

“Before entering the underworld, yes. We lived in a small house, it was more dirty than clean, people around us were rotten in body and soul, and you were the only one so beautiful and pure, with eyes bluer than mine.” Kevin stared at me as if remembering a painful past. “I entered the underworld to get out of that shitty life, I entered to get you out of that rock bottom. But when I was still in training Patricia took you, she didn’t know what I was doing, she thought I was selling drugs to take care of you, she took you and I was very proud to go after you.”

“Why did she take me?”

”Patricia knew that you were not our father’s daughter, your father was rich, he saw the advantages of taking money from him using you.”

“All this time I thought she was my mother...”

“I didn’t know her intentions, if I had tried to look for you, maybe that wouldn’t have happened to you, and I would have been leading the underworld with me.”

“What was our mother like?”

“She was beautiful, she had the same color as your hair. She called you little, Jasmine, but I made her choose the name she has today.”

“Kevin...”

“I always wanted to give you everything, new and clean clothes, milk to satisfy your constant hunger, new pacifiers, I wanted to give you a healthy home.” Her hand touched my face and I could see her weaker side. “I know that I kidnapped you with Alisson, I left you in the hands of James, and if I had known you were my sister, he would never have come near you.”

We let out a spontaneous smile as we imagined what it would have been like.

“I always found you very protective, at first when Alisson worked for you I even thought you were cute.” He grimaced.

“We inherited our mother’s beauty.”

“I never heard you talk about her, do you miss her?”

“In parts, Alisson changed me and made some hidden sides emerge again, like remorse. A shame that death is inevitable.”

"Why do you say that?"

“At first I hated the mother because she subjected herself to being an addict for her husband. There were fights and disagreements, I often wished for her death and saw the pain in her eyes. But when I buried her in that dirty, cold hole, the reality sank in that I would never hear her voice, her smile, she would never face me again, nor hug me again. This doesn't just happen to the mother, it can be a father, a brother, a friend, or even the love of her life. We are present there, being able to hug them, kiss them, and tell them how much we love them, but they cannot do it, because they are gone. This means mourning, a dimension of emptiness, in which we can do nothing but cry.”

Without saying anything else, Kevin left the office and I was alone for a while absorbing everything he had told me. I was inert with his revelations and as if I imagined I was trapped in both his and Patricia 's information. I left the office and walked to the main room, there I could see James holding our son while he was giving him his bottle, he looked at me with concern.

"Are you well?"

“Where’s your gun?” I ignored his question.

“What do you want with her?”

“Stop asking questions and give it to me already!”

He took it from his waist and handed it to me, I removed the cartridge and checked the number of words.

“It’s loaded.”

“Your car keys, I want them.”

"You will leave? Baby, calm down... ” I took a deep breath trying to control my nerves. Understanding my state of mind, James handed me his keys and I left the property as quickly as possible.

I parked the vehicle and walked towards the psychiatric hospital, my mind was racing a mile a minute. I dried my eyes and went to reception, I made it clear who I came to visit, and they didn't stop me even when they saw the gun in my hand. I walked down the corridor looking for him, and at the end of it I saw two nurses leave his room, when I approached they ran immediately.

Knock knock.

When she turned her wheelchair around, she looked at me in surprise, maybe she knew I would come at some point, but she wasn't expecting me with a gun. Her look is one of astonishment and the small smile that was on her lips quickly disappeared. I smiled at her and pointed the gun in her direction, without letting her dare say anything stupid, I shot her in the forehead, and I could see the bullet piercing her head, the blood spreading across the white walls, that brightened up my troubled day.

I left his room and appeared in the hallway, the nurses looked at me scared, afraid that I would shoot him, I smiled without humor.

“Don’t worry, I just came to do business.”

“The police were called.” She warned with a trembling voice.

“My son, do you know who you are talking to?” I asked, he shook his head.

“I don’t know either… What’s your name?”

"Robson."
