That's impossible
ELENA
“Let's get out of here!” The voices and the chaos happening around me felt like an apocalypse.
The screams were endless. The sorcerers were trying to get themselves to safety. There was blood spilled in all directions. I felt a handful splatter on my face but none of that was traumatic enough to pull me out of the daze I've been locked in.
My eyes were trapped on the beast yanking the men apart. Some of them had taken their wolf form and they still weren't able to tame the beast.
This was the most gruesome sight I've ever seen. Limbs were flying in the air. Screams of doom were echoing into the dark skies of the night. The ferocious howling seemed unending, and that beast was getting angrier with every attack he was getting from the rogues, who were determined to pin him down.
The scene resembled an epic horror scene from a movie. Except this wasn't a movie. It was happening right in front of me.
“Let's get out of here, princess!” Beck grabbed my arm aggressively.
I yanked my arm away from his, unwilling to go with him. Looking back at the scene, I gasped at how the remaining rogues were attacking the beast at once.
Over thirty of them pounced at the beast at once. All in their wolf forms.
“They're gonna kill him.” I panicked, turning to Beck.
“Yeah, that's the fucking plan. Let's get out of here.” This time, he pulled me aggressively.
I struggled and shrieked, fighting against his steel grip but he wouldn't let go.
The farther we went, the more aggressive the howls became. I turned around as much as I could and seeing the sight get bloodier made me shriek even louder.
Until we were out in the dark, haunted street.
There was a car and two men guarding it. They opened the passenger door and Beck tossed me inside. He got in too. The two men got in front and they sped off.
Looking through the window, hoping to see what was happening was futile because all I could see were trees.
But those howls were jabbing at me. They held so much pain and I couldn't help but bawl my eyes out. But I was also still in shock.
Because he morphed into that beast right in front of me. So as much as I wanna argue that the beast isn't him, I can't. Because I saw everything.
“What about the others?” One of the men in front asked.
“They're back there, trying to pin him down,” Beck replied. He was breathless from fear.
“Why does he look like us?” The one driving asked. He sounded more scared than Beck.
“I have no idea. No idea at all.” Beck mumbled. “Just drive faster. We need to get off these ghostly streets.”
“Sure, man.”
I listened heartily to those howling sounds until we were out of earshot. Dear God, please don't let him die.
Hours later, we were driving into my father's compound, which had been taken over by these rogues.
The car came to a halt near the water fountain and one of the rogues opened the door from outside.
Beck stepped out first and roughly pulled me out.
“Don't touch me.” I snapped, struggling to get my hand off his grip.
“Don't make me get physical with you, Princess. After what I just witnessed, I might be tempted to take it out on you.”
I held in my remaining protests as he stepped into the house.
“How do you feel, knowing you've been fucking a beast?” He continued taunting me. “Have you always known or are you as shocked as we all are?”
I didn't answer that. But saying I'm shocked is an understatement. I'm out of breath. My heart is constricted. I'm struggling to wrap my head around what I just witnessed tonight.
Declan met us in the hallway and his eyes held confusion. He glanced between Beck and me before steadying his gaze on Beck.
“That's not Lucia.”
“No. It's still the princess.”
Right. They were gonna perform some sick ritual on me before the beast intervened.
The beast. The beast! Why do I keep calling him that?
It's Vince!! But then he's also a damn beast and I'm about having a panic attack. Dear God.
I wasn't listening to the two men until I noticed they were both staring at me.
Declan's face had horror written on it. Beck still looked terrified as he did on our way back.
Out of the blue, two men approached us and grabbed my arms.
“Let me go!”
“They're taking you to your room, Princess,” Declan said and tapped Beck's shoulder. They headed in the direction of my father's study while I got dragged away to my room.
DECLAN
“Spill,” I instructed, as soon as we got into the study and shut the door. “What is this insanity you're talking about?”
“It's not insanity!” Beck snapped. He was freaking out. I've never seen him looking so panicky. He was sweating profusely too. He looked traumatized.
“Of course, it is. What else would it be?” I snapped back. He can't spew all that ridiculousness and expect me to believe them so easily. The fuck?!
“It's a damn fact, man. He's a real beast.”
“How did he get there? What was he doing there? How did he know where to find you guys?” I was asking a lot of questions because none of these were making any sense to me.
“I don't know!” He snapped angrily. “The sorcerers had just forced Trent into rejecting the princess.”
“Did he?”
“Yes.”
Hearing that made my heart dance a bit. But that little excitement fizzled out as he continued his narration.
“They were gonna summon Lucia's soul and then he showed up in front of us. Our men tried getting rid of him and then he morphed…”
“Into what?” I asked briskly.
“The biggest rogue wolf I've ever seen. He's bigger than us. He's almost as big as your Father.”
“Nah, you're bluffing.” I laughed, shoving a middle finger to his face. There's no way Vince Walker is a rogue. More than that, there's no way he's graded on the same level as my father.
My father and his ancestors had the biggest and fiercest rogue-wolf forms. Vince could never look like them. He's an arrogant pureblood. He should look like pure blood in his wolf form.
“I'm telling you, man.” Beck insisted desperately. “He looks like your father. He looks like us. Only that he's bigger than us. He…he ripped our men apart. I left them there to take him down but I fear he might ruin all of them. And if they even succeeded in pinning him down, they'll be badly injured. He's a beast. An unhinged beast.”
“But that's not possible. Vince Walker is the most famous pureblood this era has ever known. So how's that even possible?”
“I don't know, man. But I know what I saw. Why do you think I came back alone? Things had gone out of hand. He was killing everyone. There was no stopping him. I had to get the Princess to safety.”
“Thank you.”
He shot me a look. “Don't thank me. I didn't do it for whatever measly feelings you have for her. I just thought she'd be the perfect bait to pin down this beastly Vince. We need her more than ever.”
He's right. But God, it's unbelievable. If Vince is a rogue, and we've been fighting each other for years, then something isn't right.
Someone needs to explain to us how we got here. Because it doesn't make any fucking sense.
“Prince Declan.” The door opened and one of my minions walked in. “The elders have arrived.”
“The head elders?” Beck repeated. “What are they doing here?”
“I was shocked when they sent an envoy saying they wanted to come here and have an emergency meeting.”
“Let's go hear what they have to say,” Beck said, already leaving the room. I trailed behind him with the thoughts trapped in my mind.
Vince, a rogue? That's impossible.
