Chapter 12 Chapter twelve
The moment our eyes met, heat flooded my face. I could feel the burn creeping from my cheeks to my neck, a silent betrayal of everything I was trying to hide. My chest tightened. I need to leave before I do something foolish.
But Sylvia see me beforehand and caught my arm.
“Wait,” he said softly, his voice low but commanding. In one motion, he pulled me inside and shut the door behind us. The quiet click of the latch sent a shiver through me, it sounded far too final. My back hit the wall, and suddenly he was there, his body so close that I could feel the warmth radiating from him.
“W-what are you doing?” I managed to whisper.
His scent hit me, rich, earthy, wild. the kind of smell that could make anyone forget where they were. This scent is the one that always make Mali leap for joy whenever she comes in contact with it, It filled my lungs until I could hardly breathe. My heart pounded so hard it hurt. He leaned in, his breath brushing against my ear, making every hair on my skin stand on end.
“What did you come here for?” he asked, his tone teasing, a crooked smile tugging at his lips.
“I was just passing by and I saw your door was open,” I stammered. The words tumbled out awkwardly, my voice trembling with every syllable.
He chuckled, a low, rough sound that vibrated through my chest. “walking by?...and saw my door open?...you know you shouldn't walk into a wolf’s den with the door open,” he murmured.
Before I could think of a reply, he moved closer. One of his legs slipped between mine, not rough, just enough to make me catch my breath. His hand brushed a loose strand of hair from my face, his fingers lingering at my jawline. His eyes locked on mine, and I froze. The usual calm gray of his eyes was gone, replaced by something darker, deeper, something that scared me because I wanted it too.
The space between us vanished. I didn’t know who moved first. Maybe it was him. Maybe it was me. But then his lips were on mine, warm, firm, hungry.
For a heartbeat, I forgot everything. My mind went blank, and my body moved on its own. My hands gripped his shirt, pulling him closer, tasting him, feeling the fire that had been buried under layers of denial finally ignite.
Then it hit me.
Like lightning splitting the sky, the truth crashed over me. This is wrong. I'm kissing my brother in law. This is a betray to Claus.
Mali in the other was excited. She finally got want she all this year. She have finally bounded with her true one.
I broke away, gasping for air. My heart pounded so violently it felt like it might burst. “I can’t,” I whispered, shaking my head. “Sylvia, this is wrong.”
He reached out, his expression a mix of confusion and regret. “Ellie... I'm sorry. You're right, I shouldn't have done that...”
But I couldn’t let him finish. I turned and ran, flinging the door open and bolting down the hallway, my vision blurring with tears I refused to let fall. My pulse roared in my ears, drowning out everything but the sound of my own guilt.
I didn’t look back.
And I didn’t see the shadow in the corner, the figure who had witnessed everything.
Someone has seen it all.
