Lucian's POV

I quickly opened the message from Ruby, my heart racing as I tried to figure out what I had done to upset her. The message was short, but it was enough to make my blood boil.

"How dare you!" it read.

I stopped in my tracks and pulled out my phone, typing a quick reply. "What are you talking about?" I hit send and waited for her response, my mind racing with possibilities but she didn't reply.

Had she found out about my true identity? Had Tyler said something to her? Or was it something completely unrelated to our recent encounter?

I got into my car and drove home. Once I got there, I went straight to my desk to check the file Ben had sent me. I opened it and went through the contents, studying every detail. As I read through it, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief that Ruby wasn't engaged to Tyler after all. But at the same time, I felt a sense of guilt for being so clumsy in finalizing the whole story based on what I thought I saw and heard only.

I eased into my chair, letting out a deep sigh. It felt nice knowing that everything has been cleared out in front of me. I swiveled around in my seat, then my phone buzzed in my pocket, signaling a new message from Ruby. I opened it quickly, my eyes scanning the words.

"You threatened my fiancé," she wrote. "You scared him and you scared me. I don't know what you want from us, but please leave us alone."

My heart sank as I read the message, realizing that my actions had hurt her and caused some sort of issues with this fiancee of hers more than I had intended. I had only wanted to scare her a little, to make her realize that she should stay away from Tyler, but how did one dinner date with her cause all of this so quickly?

I typed out a quick apology, my fingers fumbling over the keys as I tried to find the right words. "I'm sorry," I wrote. "I didn't mean to scare you but how could one dinner date at my house scare you and even threaten him?" I asked

I hit send and waited for her reply, feeling a sense of unease settle over me. Had I just made things worse? Does Tyler know about our encounter already? Or worse, would she go to the police? I can't afford to draw humans' attention to the pack.

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I had to be careful. I couldn't let my emotions get the best of me. I had to find a way to protect my pack and my territory without causing any more discomfort to innocent humans like Ruby.

With a heavy sigh, I decided to go speak to Ruby. I sent her another text, telling her to meet me at night owl, tomorrow night. I stood up from my chair, and headed outside, into the garden for some air, determined to put this whole mess behind me. But as I stepped out onto the garden grounds, my phone buzzed again, signaling a new message from Ruby.

I hesitated for a moment, my hand hovering over the phone. Should I read it now or wait until I got back inside? In the end, my curiosity won and I opened the message.

"You came over to the house," it read. "For some reason, you came over to the house and talked to Adam. I don't know what you told him and I don't care but just stay away from us, Lucian. Please."

I frowned immediately after I finished reading the message. "What the hell is she talking about?" I asked myself. I had brought this on myself when I had just played along with whatever she said without thinking too deeply about it, how the hell did I believe that Tyler would want to marry a human and she wouldn't know about his identity and even go as far as coaxing her into dates with me because I threatened to harm her Fiancee. I snarled at how dumb I had been.

I typed out a quick reply, trying to sound as sincere as possible. "What the hell are you talking about?" I wrote and sent it to her.

"Please, Lucian. I can't lose him," she replied. I could feel the heavy emotions in her words even if I wasn't around her or couldn't see her.

"Ruby I never came to your house!" I replied someone is messing around with her because I don't even know where she lives.

I paced the garden, feeling a sense of frustration building up inside of me. Someone had shown up in front of Ruby's house today and maybe used my name, and I had no idea who it could be. I decided to call Ben if he had gone to her house to dig up more information.

"What do you mean you never came to my house, then who did?" Her text popped up on my phone screen.

"Let's meet tomorrow night at night owl, we could sort things out," I replied, she must have hesitated for a while because it took a while before she replied.

"Okay, don't even think about doing anything funny." I smiled at her reply, she could sometimes become a very feisty personality. For now, I sent a text to Ben.

"Did you go to Ruby's house during your investigation?" He replied almost immediately as if he had been expecting my text.

"No, I did not but I got the address of their house from the hospital website. I hacked it ." He replied with a wink emoji. So if Ben did not go there, then who did? I asked myself. I decided to call my pack members who I told to be on the lookout in case Ruby gets involved with anything.

I picked up my phone and started calling my pack members, one by one. As I spoke to each one of them, I could feel a sense of relief wash over me. None of them had been to Ruby's house, they didn't even know where she lived.

Just as I was about to hang up, one of them spoke up.

Ruby's POV

The whole matter was just like a dream to me and I feel so embarrassed. I feel really sad and depressed trying to convince Adam about my innocence.

"Please believe me, Adam, I have nothing to do with the man that came to look for me earlier, I understand that it is hard to believe me but please try to understand" I explained emotionally to try to prove my innocence.

"How do you want me to believe in your lies, who could believe that you guys have nothing to do together?" Adam replied, staring at her.

"I understand that you don't believe me but please you have to because all this was just a misunderstanding" Ruby explained.

"Could you have just believed me like that if it was you? I trust you won't, how can I fall for those big lies" Adam responded emotionally with a weak voice.

I really felt Adam's point and I try to understand, but still, I have to try as much to convince him so that the issue can be resolved.

"Okay, I promise to quit my job at Night Owl immediately after raising our wedding money, I think that would do". I tried to say that to him to cool him down, and I could feel a sigh of relief in his eyes at that moment.

"Okay if you say so" he replied with a sign of relief. A few minutes later, we heard a knock at the door and immediately, we stayed silent to confirm who was knocking on the door. I feel uncomfortable immediately after hearing a male voice. "Who could that be?" That thought arose in my mind immediately. After several knocks, the voice finally voiced out.

"Hey it's me,.... please I'm here to see Ruby" the voice echoed out after several knocks. My heart started beating several times and I didn't know what to do for some moments. I stayed where I was silent looking at Adam's eye to eye. I quickly fake my smile and pretend to go along with Adam.

Adam moved silently to the door and gently opened the door to confirm who was knocking. As a big surprise, Adam opens the door and finds out that it was Lucian.

"Hey it's me, Lucian, please I'm looking for Ruby" Lucian explained as the door was open for him.

Adam was so annoyed at Lucian immediately after sighted him, her mood changed immediately and he felt like swallowing him alive like a hungry crocodile, immediately he slams it back at sight.

Ruby could sense the feeling where she was seated and felt uncomfortable. Immediately, after hearing their conversation she stood up and started to imagine why Lucian came to visit him.

"Hey Ruby…….!" Adam called Ruby angrily, finding it hard to hide his feelings. Immediately, Ruby quickly rushed to meet Adam and Adam started throwing her a bunch of questions.

"Please why is he here again? Who is this man looking for you?" Adam asked angrily, pointing at Ruby.

Ruby tries as much to pretend as if she knows nothing for the moment and quickly opens the door immediately. Ruby opens the door and finds Lucian. Lucan responded to a query from Adam.

"Hey, what again is your business here?" Adam asked angrily, feeling like kicking Lucian.

Ruby quickly moves closer to Adam and cools him down, she can sense that if both were shouting at each other both of them can end up fighting.

"Please just leave Lucian," Ruby asked politely from Lucian to avoid fighting from both parties.

"I thought you should just hear from me at least before chasing me away, was it because of this bad luck? I'm just here to explain some things to you." Lucian explained.

Adam felt so annoyed about Lucian's comment calling him bad luck and he couldn't hold his temper.

"Bad luck…" Adam said angrily as he drew out his hand to throw a punch at Lucian. He pushes Ruby out of his way as he throws out his punch.

Lucian, who was a bit smart, quickly bent his head to avoid the punch hitting him in the face. He was quick to dodge and he retaliated, making Adam fall back down on the floor.
