CHAPTER 151 — THE VOID STRIKES BACK
CHAPTER 151 — THE VOID STRIKES BACK
The moment of victory was fleeting.
No sooner had Luna pressed her wolf close, feeling the golden pulse of their restored bond, than the void reacted. The air around them thickened, shadows snapping violently like claws, flaring and twisting with a soundless roar that made Luna’s teeth ache. The very ground beneath them—if it could still be called ground—shimmered, rippling in waves of black energy that threatened to pull them into nothingness.
Asher’s eyes flared molten gold, his claws flexing, shadows rising along his arms and coiling into spikes that glimmered with dark light. “Brace yourself!” he shouted, voice echoing through the void. “It’s not done with us yet!”
The wolf, now fully present, growled low in her throat, a sound that reverberated through the emptiness. Its molten gold eyes locked onto the darkness, muscles coiling, fur bristling with raw energy. Luna mirrored its stance, grounding herself, letting the bond flow between them, hot and bright like molten iron, bracing against the encroaching void.
Then the strike came.
A wave of darkness erupted from the depths, not just surrounding them, but striking like a battering ram. The force slammed into Luna, lifting her from her feet, throwing her hard against Asher. Pain shot through her chest, through the hollow space where the bond had tethered her wolf. She gasped, teeth gritted, resisting the pull that threatened to wrench the wolf from her, to sever them entirely.
“Hold on!” Asher roared, his voice a lifeline. Shadows erupted from him like a cage, intercepting the first blow, dissolving into sparks of black and gold energy as they collided with the void. But it wasn’t enough wave after wave slammed into them, shaking the misty ground, threatening to tear them apart.
Luna’s vision blurred, black and gold flickering at the edges of her sight. Every strike pushed at the bond, testing her, challenging her. Her wolf whimpered, flickering like molten light caught in a storm. She pressed her hands to her chest, calling with everything she had left.
Hold on… fight… we are together…
The wolf responded, muscles coiling, claws digging into the mist beneath them. Energy flared around it, bright gold burning through the black, illuminating the void for fleeting moments, revealing glimpses of twisted shapes lurking just beyond perception tendrils of shadow, faceless forms, something ancient and aware.
“Luna!” Asher shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. He swung his arm, shadows lashing outward, striking the void with arcs of pure force. “Focus! Keep the bond! I’ve got your back!”
She nodded through the pain, teeth gritted. Every strike of the void slammed against her chest, but she poured every ounce of her will, every shred of love and trust, into the tether. The wolf surged closer, pulsing with her energy, fighting to break free from the darkness that restrained it.
Then came a sound that froze her blood a deep, resonant voice that seemed to echo from the edges of the void, low and omnipresent, not words, but thought itself.
Foolish child… you cannot save what is mine…
The void coalesced suddenly, a towering shadow, humanoid but impossibly vast, faceless yet radiating intent. Its form shifted constantly, tendrils stretching and snapping into the emptiness, testing, probing, pressing at the bond between Luna and her wolf.
Asher growled, stepping in front of her, claws extended, aura blazing. “You picked the wrong prey,” he snarled, voice deadly, eyes molten fire. “Stay away from her. Stay away from us.”
The shadow pulsed, striking toward him in a wave of darkness. He met it head-on, his form exploding with protective energy, but the collision sent shockwaves rippling through the void. Luna and the wolf were thrown back, spinning, hearts hammering as the void twisted, coiling, reshaping, relentless.
Luna’s wolf landed beside her, snarling, molten gold fur flaring, claws digging into the intangible ground. Its presence surged, strengthening the bond, pushing back against the shadow’s assault, and Luna felt herself lifted by its energy, tethered, unbroken.
You are mine… the void pulsed, and you will bend.
“No!” Luna screamed, voice breaking with raw defiance. We are together! We are one! You will not touch her!
The bond flared, gold and fire spilling from her chest, streaming into the wolf. Together, they surged forward. The void recoiled slightly at the strength of the tether, but it retaliated with a massive strike, colliding with both of them in a wave of darkness so intense it threatened to erase their very essence.
Asher dove into the assault, claws slashing, shadows striking with precision and power. He collided with the void’s tendrils, cutting paths of light and shadow, forcing the darkness to bend, to shift, to avoid direct contact with the wolf tethered to Luna.
Step by agonizing step, they pressed forward. Luna felt the hollow space in her chest flare violently, as if the void had reached inside her one last time, trying to wrench the wolf from her. Pain exploded through her, black and cold and sharp. She fell to her knees, pressing her hands to the chest, screaming into the bond.
I am here! I am not leaving! Fight with me! Together!
The wolf responded instantly, surging forward, claws and fur blazing with molten gold, breaking the tendrils restraining it. Energy rippled outward, colliding with the void in a wave so intense that the blackness screamed, fracturing like glass.
Asher roared, shadows and fury blending into one, striking the void’s form again and again, holding it back while Luna strengthened the bond. Each pulse, each strike, each heartbeat fused them tighten wolf, human, and Alpha, unbroken, unstoppable.
The shadow shrieked, its form destabilizing under the force of combined will. Its attacks became frenzied, chaotic, testing, striking in desperation. But Luna and her wolf, tethered together and reinforced by Asher, surged forward. The hollow ache in her chest was filled with energy now, the bond complete, golden fire blazing through the darkness.
And then she reached it.
Her hands on her wolf’s face, foreheads pressed together, bond fully restored, she felt the darkness falter. The void pulsed violently, screamed in fury, but it could not touch them. They were united. They were fire, gold, and molten will, anchored by Asher, unbreakable, relentless.
“You… will not win,” Luna whispered, voice raw, fierce. “We are together, and nothing nothing will take her from me!”
The void shrieked one final time, the sound echoing through the endless blackness, then recoiled, shrinking back, retreating to the edges of perception, for now contained, for now restrained.
Asher fell to his knees beside her, breathing hard, shadows collapsing into gentle flickers. Luna clutched her wolf, molten eyes locked with hers, trembling but alive.
“We… we did it,” she whispered, tears streaming. “She’s safe. She’s back.”
Asher pressed a hand to her cheek, gaze molten, unyielding. “Yes,” he said softly. “For now… but this isn’t over. It will come back. And when it does… we will be ready.”
Luna nodded, holding the wolf close. The bond pulsed steadily, molten and alive, a beacon of strength against the endless black. Together, they had faced the void and survived.
But deep in the shadows, beyond perception, something waited. Patient. Calculating. Ancient.
And it would return.
