Chapter 46 Chapter 46
Chapter 46 Chapter 46
"HOW did you know about this?" he asked Iris once the meeting hall was tidied up. His stubborn brother hated a mess, especially in this room.
"Alyana told me..."
"Alyana?"
"The cousin of one of those imprisoned in Alabaskar. Why didn't you fight back earlier?"
"I was asleep. If you hadn't arrived, my head would surely be rolling on the floor. Will you be staying long?"
"No, because Steve will be looking for me, but we'll return when you need help. Where are your guards? Why isn't there a single guard to watch over you? Where is your brother?"
"I ordered my brother to assist the Sakot (Chosen One) and her friend. They are on a journey to gather allies, and you were one of them. It's good you happened to come here. All the wolves are at the higher ground training with Sapiro."
"As long as the shadow behind the moon hasn't disappeared, I suggest you don't stay alone, Yfraim. This isn't the first time an attempt will be made on your life, and I won't like what happens if you don't follow my command."
"Thank you. Don't worry, I'll follow your suggestion. I just wonder how they got in when I already placed a barrier on this mountain."
"It's simple: there is a traitor in your army, and they created the passage themselves."
"And you? How did you get in?"
"I was already inside before you put the protection spell on this mountain. I was in Alabaskar with the four. I’ve already spoken to them so that next time, you'll have help even if I'm not here."
Iris spun her chair to face him. Now that their lives—or rather, his life—was no longer in danger, he finally noticed her face. He thought she looked young, likely not even two hundred years old. This Cursed Wolf had changed and defied the rules of Safre out of love for a mortal.
"What do you think is the best thing to do? Should I release the four?"
"I spoke to Yuwi before I came here. She was the one who said this wouldn't be the only attempt on your life, and now that I'm in this room, it’s confirmed."
"Are you also a seer?"
"No, but I'm special." The girl smirked. "Here's the plan..." She laid out the plan for the coming days when the last assassin would try to take his life. She clearly stated the time and day: three days from now. "Aside from your brother, Leora, and Rafuza, tell no one else about our plan."
"My brother and Leora aren't here. They're far away now because I can no longer find Leora."
Iris laughed at his statement. "Your brother and this Leora you're talking about are just outside this mountain, unable to get in. The Sakot escaped the female Earth Demon."
He slapped his forehead at Iris's words. He didn't expect this. When Leora spoke to him before they left the mountain, she asked permission to disguise herself as Sapiro to accompany Aurora in finding the others.
"You let the two of them leave alone?! What kind of foolishness were you thinking, Yfraim?!" Sapiro charged at him upon finding out his daughter had left without his knowledge.
"You're also planning to attack Morgana's fortress, Sapiro, so what's the difference?" He kept his composure, especially since he was facing Sapiro. He had high respect for the man as the leader of his army.
"Because I can protect my daughter!" Sapiro shouted before turning his back.
He shook his head, remembering the argument with Aurora's father. He understood him, especially since the locations of the immortals they needed were so dangerous.
"What about Sapiro? Should I not tell him this plan?"
"The father of the Sakot?" He nodded. "Don't bother Sapiro. Let him do what he does best, which is strengthening your ranks. Order him to train the army again on that night so no one suspects you’ve prepared. It’s better if he doesn't know, because he’ll only insist on guarding you, and then guards would be scattered inside and outside the palace, preventing anyone from trying to enter. You just need to catch the man wearing the red cape because you can squeeze information out of him regarding the traitor in your mountain." The young woman stood up. "I need to go home before my mate follows me here."
"I'll accompany you to a passage since you can't teleport inside here."
They walked toward the passage. A heavy silence met them; not a single wolf was in sight.
"Is Aurora's father here? The mortal?"
"Yes, you're right. He's here."
"Doesn't the magic of this place affect mortals?"
"Not especially since—"
"I know that already, just don't say it. It's better to be careful than to have someone overhear us. Do the same when you talk to the three. Talk in Alabaskar. By the way, bring the Sakot's daddy to Alabaskar; he'll be protected by the four there."
"Why? Is there a threat to his life too?"
"We don't know, but you don't have to wait for it to happen. If young wolves with abilities were killed, what more an elderly mortal?"
"You're right." They entered the thick forest in the North, where he could sense the aura of his brother and Leora.
Upon reaching a cave surrounded by hanging vines with a blue door, he recited an incantation, and the door opened on its own. When the door opened, the spell barrier was lifted.
"Shit! We've been here for a while, and you only found out now?!" Leora immediately yelled at him as the two entered the wolf territory.
"Are you okay?" his brother asked him.
"I'm fine. Why are you here?"
"Because I knew what would happen tonight, so I came back immediately." His brother looked grim, and he knew he was just suppressing his anger.
"As for me, Aurora told me. She sent me back here because she was worried about you," Leora answered him, then paused when she saw the woman with him. "Who are you?"
"She helped me. She's an ally, Leora."
"What's your name?" In Leora's tone, she seemed suspicious of the companion.
"I didn't see you in my vision, so I didn't expect you to come here. Thank you for saving my stubborn brother. I'm Ryuk."
"Iris Death Summer..."
