Chapter 30 Chapter 30
Only after Aurora left did Leora's face calm down. In truth, she understood her friend. It's difficult to choose between two people important to you, and maybe the best thing to do is to choose what is right.
To be honest, she was also confused. There were questions in her mind that were hard to answer, such as who really attacked Aurora when she was with her lover all night?
Who was behind the killing of the young wolves?
And who was Sapiro's opponent, who he claimed attacked him?
No matter how much she racked her brain, she couldn't find even a tiny answer.
Could an enemy have infiltrated their mountain? But her thought was impossible because the only passage was solely for their wolves. The four young vampires entered with Yfraim's permission, so anyone else who attempted to enter their mountain would only face death.
Her eyes sharpened when she felt a presence behind her, but when she looked, there was no one there.
Yfraim, I need to talk to Yfraim...
The maiden closed her eyes, and when she opened them, she was already facing Yfraim in his room.
"I need to talk to them..." she greeted the king.
"Who?"
"You know who."
The king walked to the large window and gazed at his domain.
"What do you think is happening to our race, Leora?"
She approached her friend. "That's my question too, Yfraim, but I can't find an answer. Many of us have fallen. The young wolves, who haven't even fulfilled their destiny, have been taken by nature," the maiden replied sadly.
"Do you think I've failed as your king?"
Yfraim is not only the King of the Lycan District; he's also a mentor and a friend. They had won several battles with Ryuk.
When the battle between them and the powerful sorceress Morgana happened, they lost, but they chose to rise despite their fallen kin. They formed an alliance with Ezral, who was also a victim of Morgana.
The sorceress is older than any Myth that walks here on Earth. Morgana is the first strange being who survived their god's reckoning. But the sorceress's evil might end because of a prophecy.
A maiden from rival races will kill her. A maiden born while the bakunawa was devouring the sun...
And that was Aurora.
She patted his shoulder. "You've never failed, my friend. You've been too obedient and kind, and I think that's your fault."
The king's handsome face crumpled because of what the maiden said. "Is it a sin to be kind and obedient?"
"Yes," the maiden replied directly. "Because of your adherence to our ancestors' laws, the young ones were killed. This is a new era, Yfraim. The era and rules of the ancient ones are over. You are the king now, so you should be followed. Allow the young wolves to train because that's the only way for their abilities to emerge. You are a good king, so the young ones in your domain will also be good—whether they have power or not. We, the elders, are here to guide the young ones so they don't lose their way, like what our ancestors feared. We need to move forward because civilization is leaving us behind. We're not doing this for us; we are doing this for our next generation."
"You're right, Leora. I've wanted to change our laws for a long time, but I'm hesitant because I'm afraid our district will be persecuted by the pillars of Credendum..."
"We will always be by your side when the time of their persecution comes. Even if we are under the power of the people of Credendum, we should not be enslaved by them, especially since many young ones sacrificed their lives in the past."
"Thank you..." The young man smiled at her, and his face now showed calmness, unlike before. "How about you? What's your plan?"
"Can you trust me?" she challenged her friend the king.
"What kind of question is that? Of course, I trust you."
"Okay then. You'll find out soon what's on my mind."
She didn't want to reveal any plans because it seemed like there were always eyes following them and watching, even though the mountain was covered by a barrier. As others say, it's better to be careful than not.
After their conversation, she secretly went to Alabaskar to visit the four vampires. In this place, Leora's mind was at peace because she didn't feel the eyes following her.
She gave them four blood packs.
"Aurora, isn't she coming to visit?"
"No." Because of her answer, pain etched itself on Fiel's face.
"Does she really believe we're guilty?"
"No. She's up to something, and I don't know what that is. She's leaving with Sapiro to Morgana's lair."
"What?!" the four shouted loudly.
"I don't trust her father, Leora," Fiel admitted to her.
"It's okay." She shrugged. "Sapiro feels the same way about you, and I wonder why. He's a vampire, so you should be on his side, but then again, he was once betrayed by the Vampire, so I can't blame him."
"But he shouldn't lie that we attacked him, Leora!" Leron's fists were clenched, and if it were possible for them to escape this cage, the four young men would have already done so.
"But Nexus saw that too. My boyfriend, who was with me the other night, was the one who attacked Aurora. How about that?" she said with a smirk. "Who among you four isn't telling the truth?" She followed the joke with a laugh.
"What?" the four men asked, their eyebrows furrowed at what she said.
She gave them a peace sign. "I'm just kidding."
"What about Aurora? Won't she be in danger?" Thor asked her.
"Let her be. She already chose her side. Her father is with her, so she'll be okay..."
Before the four could say anything, she walked away from the cage. Teleporting doesn't work in Alabaskar, nor does any ability, so no one can leave the place without Yfraim's permission.
