Chapter 225 The Prison Of Love
Chapter 225 The Prison Of Love
MIA
I already knew her answer. I didn’t need to ask her again. The way her voice broke, the way her eyes avoided mine, and the way she looked like she was fighting against herself told me everything I needed to know. She still loved Alessandro. But how? How was that even possible?
I let out a slow breath, staring at her as if I could find the answer somewhere on her face. I couldn’t understand it. I understood fear. I understood pain. I understood the scars Alessandro left behind. But love after everything he did that was the part I couldn’t accept.
I looked away, shaking my head slightly. There was nothing I could do to control her feelings. Elara wasn’t a child. She was grown. She had the right to feel whatever she felt, even if it made no sense to me.
But why him? Why Alessandro? Of all the people in the world, why did her heart choose the one person who had destroyed so much of her life?
“I’m stupid, right?” Elara whispered as my eyes moved back to her. She was looking at me now, tears gathering in her eyes, her voice sounding like she already knew the answer.
“I should hate him,” she said, wiping her cheek with trembling fingers. “I should hate Alessandro with everything inside me.” Her lips shook as she spoke, like the words themselves were hurting her.
“He made my life a living hell. He hurt me. He tormented me. He took everything from me…” Her voice cracked, and for a moment she couldn’t continue.
“He killed my parents.”
The room went quiet.
I watched the pain cross her face, and for a second, I forgot how angry I was.
“But I don’t know why…” she whispered, her hand moving to her chest, gripping the fabric of her clothes tightly. “I don’t know why my heart still wants him.”
The tears finally fell.
“I hate this feeling. I hate that I miss him. I hate that a part of me still wants to be near him after everything he has done.”
She shook her head, crying harder as her words came out in broken pieces. “I feel like I’m losing my mind. I feel like I’m trapped inside something I can’t escape from.” Her breathing turned uneven, as if each breath hurt more than the last.
“I want to be free, Mia. I really do. I don’t want to love him.” She covered her face with her hands, shoulders trembling as she tried to hold herself together. “My heart is still running back to him even when my mind is screaming at me to stop.”
I stayed silent. What could I even say?
“If only I could erase him from my memory,” she cried, her voice breaking again. “If only I could wake up one day and not feel anything for him. If only I could control my heart…”
Her voice faded into a sob, and I just looked at her as she broke down in front of me. For the first time, I didn’t see someone making a choice. I saw someone fighting a war inside herself.
I sighed quietly. I didn’t know how to fix this. I had never been in love before, never understood what it meant to lose control over your own heart. And after seeing Elara like this, I wasn’t sure I ever wanted to.
Because if this was what love could do to someone, I didn’t understand why people called it something beautiful.
I reached out and gently touched her hair. She didn’t move away.
“I’m sorry for involving you in this,” she whispered.
I shook my head. “It’s okay.”
I didn’t know if it was okay. I didn’t even know if there was a solution to something like this. But I couldn’t leave her alone in it.
“We’ll find a solution,” I said softly. “I promise you, we’ll find a way.”
ADRIAN
The moment I heard Mia was awake, I didn’t waste another second. I drove straight to the hospital, my mind filled with questions. I needed to see her, needed to know if she was really okay.
When I reached Mia’s VIP room, I stopped as soon as I saw Costa standing outside. Something about the way he stood made me suspicious. Then I noticed it his head was slightly tilted toward the door. He was listening.
I walked closer, my eyebrows pulling together.
Before I could say anything, Costa quickly raised his finger to his lips and mouthed, “Keep quiet.” I stared at him, confused, but then I heard voices from inside the room—Mia… and my sister.
I moved closer, and the moment I recognized Elara’s voice, I stopped. Then I heard what she was saying.
My entire body froze, and my hands slowly tightened into fists as the words sank in. How? How could she still love Alessandro?
That man… the one who destroyed our family, the one who killed our parents, the one who took everything from her.
My jaw clenched as anger rushed through me. I couldn’t understand it. What was wrong with Elara? How could her heart still choose him after everything?
Then Costa’s words came back to me.
Maybe he was right. Maybe keeping her here was only giving Alessandro another chance to hurt her again.
I looked at the closed door, my mind already made up. If this continued, I would do whatever it took to protect my sister, even if it meant sending her away somewhere Alessandro could never reach her somewhere she would never see him again, somewhere she could finally forget him.
