Chapter 26 Break Free

Chapter 26 Break Free
Boarding the private plane was supposed to be the highlight of the night, but my irritation had another plan.

Cillian dropped into the seat next to mine. There were tons of seats inside this jet, and the concept of my sitting near him was revolting.

A tall woman with blonde hair was quick to ask him if he wanted anything, but Cillian ignored her and continued tapping on the screen of his tablet.

She batted her thick, long eyelashes and made eyes with my husband, “Sir. I’m here to serve you in any way possible. Please don't hesitate to call me if you need anything, absolutely anything.”

Absolutely anything? The nerve of this woman.

Was she blind? Cillian wore a wedding band, and I’m seated next to him, wearing the emerald-cut diamond ring he gave me.

And serve him? Gross on so many levels.

Cillian remained unbothered by her advances, despite her desperate way of gaping at my husband, shamelessly drooling.

I cleared my throat, making a noticeable sound

“Excuse me?” The flirtatious woman was plastered with focus on Cillian, ignoring me.

“Sir, I’m so curious, how did you pick London for a vacation trip? The Big Ben—”

“My wife did,” Cillian replied in his I don't give a fucking shit kind of tone.

The flight attendant shot me a glance, “London is known for a place of manners and kind pleasantries, so as his wife, I’m so excited trying to make babies in England!

Cillian gawked at me, with amusement in his ocean eyes, and warmth crept under my molten skin.

I missed him.

I missed him looking directly at me; this was the first time in three days that he took the time to see me.

I glared at him.

Stay furious heart, I told myself, pinching the diamond ring around, a rainbow reflected in the ceiling.

“My husband and I want two glasses of champagne." I waved my hand for her to go.

Her smile faded, and I smirked upon popping her little balloon of fantasy.

“Get my wife whatever she wants.”

“Right away, Sir.” She disappeared from my sight

“So eager to flaunt your marital status anywhere you go?”

His mouth lifted as his interest grew, “Whatever.” I retorted

I was his assistant on this whole fake honeymoon trip.

“I find your possessiveness entertaining.”

Entertaining? What was I? A clown?

“I’m not in the slightest possessive."  Flash news, Cillin, I was not like you.

Not even close.

“Hmm.” He responded, adjusting to his seat.

He traced the tip of the glass and stared at me.

“I appreciate you reminding me that you're my wife, but remember, you promised to help me get the deal with Mr. Fujitaka.”

My mouth plunged open in disbelief, “Are you kidding me right now?”

He went tapping on his screen again.

“She was flirting with you, Cillian, in front of me. What the hell do you want me to say?

“Sloane, I’m aware of your insecurities.”

Not his wife nor his flower.

Just Sloane. Plain and ordinary Sloane.

Was he for real? He stole my perfect honeymoon and put business as his priority before me.

And now calling me out for having trust issues, insecurities?

Where was the man caring for me the past few weeks?

Was he my imagination? Was I delusional?

He aimed to attack me personally?

“Is this the time for us to sit down and talk about your Daddy issues, Cillian? Because I’m all ears.” I raised a brow, taunting him.

Not backing down.

He shrugged, “Defensive as always, we came here for the deal, let’s focus on that, yeah?”

It hurts, this colossal moron of a man!

My insides were so upset. Relax, Rinoa, he was triggered, and he wanted to project his frustrations on you.

Please do not allow him to stir your emotions and manipulate them against you.

“And if the issue is me being faithful? You know I will.”

There was tightness in his tone, and it ripped my heart open.

Tears formed in my eyes. Don't you dare cry. I scolded myself.

I felt like I was in the presence of the King version of him, which he didn't know or recognize.

The ruthless man who craved the power to control and rule.

Suddenly, fear rushed into me, and I was panicking from within.

The demons of the past are hunting me alive, demanding to be heard.

Demanding to be felt.

“Get some rest, it’s a long flight.”

Cillian said, reaching for my hand, but I removed it before he could even land a touch.

My walls and defenses were back, and I'll pledge never to let him pass again.

Six hours of sleep wouldn't compensate for the jet lag I was feeling.

It was brutal, my head brushed the soft and smooth pillow of the hotel, and I stared at my window.

London Bridge was a sight to behold. I stretched out my legs before standing up, only to be greeted by a note.

Wow, really? First day of our honeymoon, and he didn't even wait for me?

“I went for a run.

~C.K”

Alright.

Two could play this game. I looked for the tablet on the table and scrolled to our schedule for today.

There was a party around seven in the evening, where Baxter and Mr. Fujitaka would attend.

I jerked the phone to call the reception of the hotel.

They were prompt  to answer, “Reception Area, how may I help you?”

“Hi, this is Mrs. Montgomery from the presidential suite. Is there a spa here close to the hotel?” I asked.

“Of course, ma’am, we can book at one in the afternoon today for the first session of pampering. We also offer a short tour in the nearby village at nine this morning.”

Perfect, whole day without a bossy husband to order me around.

“Also free ride—”

“Book me for everything, thank you for great service,” I told her.

“Of course, ma’am, delighted to serve you, have a wonderful day, and thank you for choosing GrandHills Group of Hotels.”

I opened the nightstand drawer and pulled the black card out of Cillian’s wallet.

My lips sealed in a witchy smile, if he thought that I would rot her and spend the day daydreaming about what ifs?

I put on a casual outfit, track pants, and a knitted top. I wore sunglasses for extra finesse.

The elevator pinged open, and I stepped inside. Two women popped in on the next floor after mine.

“Have you seen him? My gosh, he's ripped." The brunette said.

“But he married an employee.” Her eyes glinted in admiration.

I gasped and covered my mouth before the sound escaped me. Shit, even here, Cillian was a hotshot?

“Have you seen her? She’s not even pretty, she looks like a damn ghost, she’s so pale.” The blonde one replied.

“More on a vampire, they’ll file for divorce, you’ll see.”

No, lady, I was just a cursed woman, unable to flee her fate. I was a malfunction in the circle of life, and I’m trying to break free.
