Chapter 50

ANGEL SINCLAIR.

Bryan leaves Lorenzo's room well before I do and I take advantage of the time I'm here to tidy up the bed and check everything, because I don't want Lorenzo to suspect anything that's happened here, let alone involve me in this situation. Five minutes after Bryan leaves, I take Lorenzo's cell phone and leave his room. I go down to the area where the party is taking place and get a drink from the waiter.

I look for Lorenzo in the pool area and find him talking to some people. I smile as I approach the group and hand him my cell phone. Lorenzo takes the phone and looks at me with a certain surprise. I've already come up with a convincing excuse so that he doesn't suspect me.

"What took you so long?" he asks and frowns.

"I got lost in the corridors of your house and it took me a while to find your room, then I went to the kitchen to get this drink I wanted," I say, raising the glass of strawberry drink.

"Got it. I'll call my parents," he says and I nod.

"Go to the back of the house, there's a lot of noise and they'll hardly hear you," I suggest.

"Okay, I'll be back in a minute," Lorenzo replies, leaving the circle.

I smile at the people he's talking to and go off in search of Ashley, the only person closest to me who is here. I go looking for Ashley until I hear some whispers in one of the corridors and realize that it's Ian and Ashley talking. Why are they talking away from everyone? I hide and try to listen in on their conversation.

"I'm sorry I tried to kiss you, I thought you wanted me too," says Ian.

"No, I'm sorry. Maybe I implied that at some point, but that's not the case. You're a good person, Ian, but I'm not into you," Ashley retorts.

"Is there anything I can do to change that?" he asks. "I don't know, maybe we could arrange to go out alone and get to know each other better," Ian suggests.

"No," Ashley sighs, "I can't be with you because I like someone else, Ian. The problem isn't with you, it's with me. I don't want to deceive you or force things," Ashley explains.

"It's okay, I understand. If you want to vent and talk about it, I'm here to listen, okay?".

"Okay, thanks for understanding," Ashley replies.

I sneak out before they know I'm there and wonder who Ashley is in love with, since she hasn't told me anything about it. It's not possible that after everything Tyler did to me, she still likes him. I'd rather not believe that.

I walk through the crowd and feel a body bump into mine. A girl has just bumped into me and luckily my drink hasn't spilled.

"Watch where you're going, girl! You're lucky you didn't spill your drink on my clothes," I say, looking her up and down.

The girl has dark hair, dyed pink at the ends, wears jeans with black boots and stares at me while chewing gum. She looks like a junkie.

"What's your problem, bitch? I didn't mean to," she explains, "Didn't you see my back was turned? I don't have eyes behind me to see if you were passing or not."

"Bitch?" I ask, "Who do you think you are? You weren't invited, you shouldn't even be here. This house is no place for filthy people like you," I say, "If you had stained my clothes, I would have made you wash them yourself, because if you don't know, my clothes are washed by hand and I don't accept anyone like you doing whatever you want on other people's turf and not apologizing," I snap.

"But I wouldn't serve as a maid for you, you cretin! Incidents happen and neither you nor I can prevent something like that from happening," she says.

"But you can stop someone as classless as you from being here," I retort.

"Seriously, hold me back or I'll smash that disgusting little bitch's face in!" she announces.

Someone grabs her by the arm and I realize it's Cedric. Of course, if there's someone on drugs, there's Cedric in the middle, how could I not have suspected that? Maybe Bryan is with this girl too, he must be part of their little group of junkies.

"Try your luck and you'll get out of here with your little friend," I say, when I see Cedric holding her by the arm.

"Come on, Angel, don't get mixed up," I hear Lorenzo's voice behind me and he takes my hand.

Seconds after Lorenzo appears, so does Bryan. I watch as he sees Lorenzo and me holding hands and turns his face away, avoiding looking at the two of us. I just walk away with Lorenzo and we go back to the pool.

"What was going on?" he asks.

"The girl bumped into me and called me a slut, she's crazy!" I exclaim.

"Relax, in a while I'll send everyone away and only the next ones will be left to enjoy the party with us," he warns.

"I think that's good," I say, sipping the rest of my drink.

I see Ashley and Ian approaching as if nothing had happened and she offers me some savory meat, but I refuse. Knowing that Ashley is hiding things from me makes me doubt her friendship, but I also can't forget that I don't tell her everything. The only thing I haven't told Ashley is about Bryan and me, for obvious reasons. I don't think she has any problem telling me who she's into, but she's hiding it from me.

I intend to find out what Ashley is hiding, and when I do, I'll take her by surprise and she'll owe me a lot of explanations. Ashley needs to tell me who she's in love with, that's the only way I can help her win this boy over, apart from Tyler, because I would never support my best friend getting into a relationship with someone like him. Either Ashley opens up to me or unfortunately our friendship is going to weaken a lot.
