Chapter 174 What Really Hurts
Chapter 174 What Really Hurts
SEBASTIAN
“What the hell are you talking about, Alma?” I asked, laughing so hard at her explanation.
“Seriously, he said it hurts. He said he could feel the pain,” she insisted with complete seriousness.
“I’m going to call Elijah right now, you know,” I said, picking up my phone.
“Go ahead and ask him, but be smart about it. He might want to keep it a secret,” she whispered.
What the heck is this?
Elijah isn’t gay.
I don’t know about the male nurse, but if he were gay, he wouldn’t be focused on male treatment.
I dialed Elijah’s number, and he answered almost immediately.
“Put it on loudspeaker. I want to hear,” she whispered.
I chuckled and did.
“Yeah, I’m done with that. So is she.”
“Alma is here, Elijah,” I interrupted, silently reminding him of our plans.
Her eyes widened in shock as she frantically shook her head.
“Hey, cousin. How are you doing? Missing me already?” Elijah teased.
She frowned in disgust.
“Ask him,” she mouthed, reminding me why I had called.
“So you left my wife home alone just to spend time with the male nurse?” I asked.
She nodded eagerly and even gave me a thumbs-up.
I pressed my lips together, trying not to laugh.
“No, I didn’t. You know my fiancée just came back from university. She’s coming over tonight, so I wanted to get her a gift. And guess what, Sebastian? That male nurse is a pro. He gave me an amazing gift idea. Gosh, he looks so innocent, but he’s incredibly smart. He even told me he has a girlfriend. She’s a surgeon in the UK.”
Alma’s mouth fell open as she clamped a hand over it.
“But... he said it hurts,” she whispered desperately.
“Hurt? What hurt? What’s my cousin talking about?” Elijah asked in confusion.
“Let your cousin explain it to you herself,” I said, handing the phone to Alma.
She immediately shook her head in refusal.
I sighed.
“Good night,” I said before hanging up.
She rubbed her jaw thoughtfully.
“But he said it hurts,” she repeated.
I flicked her forehead lightly.
“Ouch! Stop, Sebastian,” she complained, rubbing the spot.
“Stop stressing your brain,” I said before heading toward the bathroom.
ALMA
I scan the entire scene before me.
We were having lunch, and I still couldn’t understand why everyone was here.
I thought Lady Flores had already traveled back.
I had no idea she was staying with Mrs. Mendoza and Bianca, and now they had all come over for lunch.
“Eat more. We still need to catch up today. Once again, your trick worked,” Elijah said happily as he placed another steak onto the male nurse’s plate.
Everyone seems so normal with his strange kindness.
Maybe...
Maybe I really was overthinking this.
I turned to Sebastian.
“Do you want some more?” he asked.
I immediately shook my head.
“Alma, eat more. It’s good for our babies,” Bianca said, passing me a bowl of soup.
“Thank you, child, for taking care of my daughter,” my father said to her happily.
Bianca smiled and gave him a respectful nod.
I wished life could always be like this.
No problems. Just happiness... And peace.
“Mother, here,” I said, sliding the bowl of chicken wings toward Lady Flores with a smile.
She smiled back and took some.
They were her favorite.
I promise I would be a good daughter to her.
I would make sure she never felt the absence of family again.
She had even given Bianca shares in the company for the sake of her grandchild.
Suddenly, Elijah picked up his phone, typed something, and set it back down.
A second later, the male nurse’s phone chimed.
My heart skipped.
I knew it...
These two were...
Before I could finish the thought, everyone else's phones chimed too.
Everyone...Except mine.
My brow furrowed.
They all glanced at their phones, typed something, and quietly put them away.
What the heck was going on?
I looked at Sebastian.
He looked completely unfazed.
“Do you want more food?” he asked casually.
To hell with more food.
I felt like everyone had left me in the dark.
We finished eating, and I watched everyone leave without giving me a single explanation about what had just happened.
“Dad... if everyone else can keep hurting me, you shouldn’t,” I said softly, making my voice sound as pitiful as possible. “What’s going on?”
He shook his head.
“Stop overthinking. You need some rest,” he replied before returning to his room.
I couldn't think of any celebration.
My birthday was still three months away.
The wedding was in two weeks.
Everything had already been arranged, and Sebastian had proposed to me the day after Luis’s funeral.
There wasn’t any special occasion I could think of.
This was exactly how those short drama series always handled surprise events.
“Alright, friend. See you later,” Elijah said as he walked out of the male nurse’s room.
“Hello, sweet cousin,” he added, blowing kisses at me.
I rolled my eyes.
What was the point of asking him?
It wasn't like he'd tell me.
Even the two most important people in my life refused to tell me.
And I didn't want to bother Lady Flores.
Maybe she would have told me.
And Sebastian...
He had promised never to keep secrets from me.
Yet here he was, doing it again.
My chest tightened as I sniffled, trying not to get emotional.
Speaking of Sebastian... Where was he?
I hadn't even seen him leave the house.
Maybe he was upstairs. I went to our room.
He wasn't there.
“Sebastian?” I called as I checked the bathroom.
Nothing. My heart skipped.
Where could he be?
I headed downstairs again and checked my father's room.
He was alone, already lying down as though he were about to sleep.
I quietly closed the door. Where on earth was Sebastian?
I sat on the sofa and reached for my phone to call him.
Just then, the male nurse's door clicked open.
I looked up.
Sebastian walked out with the male nurse.
I immediately jumped to my feet and hurried over.
“Sebastian! I've been looking for you,” I said quickly, grabbing his hand.
The male nurse suddenly began signing to Sebastian again.
Sebastian nodded. “Yes, it’s my first time, and of course it hurts a lot,” he replied.
My entire body went cold.
What...What did I just hear?
Sebastian too?
What on earth is going on?
