Chapter 208: Acceptance Of Double Essence
Morgana looks thoughtful for a while, her ancient mind clearly working through the complex implications of their current supernatural predicament. She continues thinking about their situation while standing in the destroyed abandoned laboratory, as Serena sits down on one of the cold metal tables and begins examining some of the scattered equipment with a look of genuine confusion and uncertainty.
As if she is completely unsure of what she is seeing before her, Serena examines some of the damaged scientific apparatus with growing bewilderment and slowly shakes her head in obvious disapproval. "These mortal are really weird with the strange things they create and consider important," she declares with divine disdain, and carelessly drops a broken test tube to the floor before looking around the destroyed space with continued puzzlement.
Damon remains exactly where he is with his arms folded defensively across his chest, still desperately trying to process the overwhelming reality of witnessing the person whom he once declared as the absolute love of his life being completely uprooted and possessed by another supernatural essence. This strangely powerful divine being that has taken residence in Serena's body is something he himself cannot begin to comprehend or categorize in his understanding of the supernatural world.
Morgana finally exhales deeply and looks directly at Serena with growing concern. Meanwhile, Isabella is nowhere to be found in the laboratory. She left already, probably to figure out her own complicated life, her own existence, or perhaps how to resolve her own permanent itching problem. Damon sincerely hopes she doesn't go back to attempting any more dangerous dark magical activities that could cause further chaos and destruction.
Morgana scratches her head nervously as she considers their limited options. "We are just going to have to take things very slowly and carefully," she says with obvious reluctance. "Believe me when I say that I am deeply sorry for getting you into this impossible situation. I never wanted things to become this complicated and difficult for everyone involved. But don't worry about it too much—I'm going to do absolutely everything within my power to make this situation better."
She pauses, clearly struggling with the magnitude of what she's about to suggest. "It's going to take a very long while to resolve this properly, but first, you will need to learn how to adapt to this mortal existence. You will need to, first of all, try to live the normal life of the person's body you are currently possessing, or else it will literally damage her life and relationships permanently."
Serena's beautiful face takes on an expression of absolute horror at this suggestion. "You want me to somehow pretend to live a teenage life and attend high school classes?" she asks with growing disbelief. She stops abruptly in her sentence and diverts her divine focus to look directly at Damon with calculating eyes. "And be romantically in love with him?"
Damon immediately looks nervous and quickly averts his gaze with a deep flush spreading rapidly across his cheeks. The entire situation looks incredibly awkward and uncomfortable for everyone involved, and Morgana can't help but chuckle softly at the absurdity of their predicament.
"Well, I don't really know exactly how this is going to work," Morgana admits with obvious uncertainty. "You don't necessarily need to pretend that you have to do all those typical teenage things, but I don't think Serena's original essence has been completely nullified or destroyed by your divine presence."
She continues with growing confidence as she works through the theoretical possibilities. "There should still be a way for you two to switch places when necessary. She can return to her normal self and take control of her body, and maybe there are specific times when you can take over during supernatural emergencies, you know, things like that."
Morgana looks between Serena and Damon with hopeful curiosity. "Doesn't it feel possible for you two distinct essences to communicate with each other somehow? I feel like that kind of internal communication should definitely be possible given the supernatural nature of your coexistence."
Serena stares at Morgana as if she thinks the ancient witch is talking complete nonsense. "Well, I honestly don't know anything about this situation," she responds with obvious frustration. "I'm not sure about any of this. I'm not really familiar with all these kinds of complex supernatural arrangements, but my sister, the Moon Goddess, is the only divine being that has the knowledge and capability of understanding these matters completely."
Her expression grows darker as she continues. "And I am absolutely not sure she would want to talk to me right now, considering the circumstances that led to this situation."
Morgana looks increasingly nervous as she scratches at her neck compulsively. "It's going to be fine, don't worry about that too much," she says with forced optimism. "We are going to figure this out somehow, okay? Just try to relax and take things one step at a time. First of all, we just need to figure out a practical way to make you two essences able to switch control back and forth, and maybe you might eventually be able to communicate with each other internally."
She pauses, clearly dreading the next part of her explanation. "And then we absolutely need to inform Serena's family about these dramatic new changes in her existence. They really need to be made aware of how the entire situation has transformed, because they're going to notice that something is fundamentally different about her behavior and personality."
Serena looks at Morgana with obvious exhaustion and barely contained fury. "You know what, I really need to admit something right now," she says with dangerous calm. "I just want to walk up to you right this moment, grab hold of you so tight, and beat the absolute living crap out of you for creating this mess."
Morgana visibly winces at her threatening sentence and begins scratching her neck even more nervously. "I am so deeply and genuinely sorry for everything," she says with sincere regret. "I never meant for things to turn out this complicated and problematic."
"Yeah, of course you didn't mean for this to happen," Serena responds sarcastically, and jumps down from the laboratory table with fluid grace. "But well, life absolutely sucks sometimes and unexpected things happen regardless of our intentions. It seems like I have no choice but to deal with this impossible situation."
She declares this with resigned determination and begins heading toward the entrance of the destroyed laboratory with purposeful strides. "Let's get out of this depressing place and go meet her parents first," she commands with divine authority. "We have an enormous amount of work to accomplish today if we're going to make this arrangement function properly."
Morgana sighs heavily before looking at Serena's retreating form, clearly dreading the conversations that lie ahead. But Serena stops walking and turns to look at Damon, who still appears completely confused and overwhelmed by everything he's witnessed.
She gestures toward the spot where he remains standing. "Are you coming with us or what?" she asks with impatience.
Damon shifts his attention to look at Morgana and lets out a nervous chuckle. "Well, I honestly don't know," he responds with uncertainty. "Am I supposed to come along for this family meeting?"
Morgana rolls her eyes at his hesitation. "You can definitely come along with us," she says with practical logic. "Perhaps your presence might be needed if we can find a way to restore Serena back to her normal self and properly explain how the current supernatural situation affects everyone involved."
