Chapter Sixteen-Bring the ghost.
Chapter Sixteen-Bring the ghost.
ADONIS'S POINT OF VIEW.
“Did you find anything about her?” Camilla continues her questioning, and I sigh in defeat before answering.
“Not a single thing. It’s like she’s a ghost.”
“Keep looking. You’ll find her,” Mom reassures me with a smile.
“Sooooo, we were talking about today— the warehouses, casino, and all that. But the most interesting part of the day was on our way to the warehouse,” Liam continues the story, and I groan.
“Liam… watch it. It’s enough.” He glances at me briefly, then keeps going as if he didn’t even notice my annoyed, pissed-off look.
“Anyway, we were in the city and stopped at a traffic light. And somebody knocked on his window... Guess who?” At this point I just admit defeat. I have no chance of stopping him.
“The one and only. She was on a bike. She blew him a kiss and drove away.”
“What bike?” Blaze asks curiously, probably because he’s into bikes as well.
“I don’t know…” Liam shrugs his shoulders.
“Fuck, a woman on a bike is the sexiest thing on Earth!” I get that he likes bikes, but not my woman.
“Blaze, do I have to repeat myself one thousand times?” I ask in a very annoyed tone, and Blaze shakes his head, noticing that I’m getting angry.
“Nope. Carry on, Liam.” At least someone listens to me.
“No, don’t carry on, Liam!” I snap as quickly as Blaze finishes talking, and Liam begins laughing. Of course, he does. Why did I ever think otherwise?
“So, we tried to catch up to her, but it was traffic, and he went all crazy as if it was my fault that we lost her.”
“But, Liam, why don’t you tell them what distracted you so badly that your driving skills suddenly went out the window? After all… we have no secrets in this family. Right?” Now it’s my turn to smirk. Revenge, sweet revenge. All color drained from his face in an instant, his mouth dropping open as if he just saw a ghost. He looks at me with pleading eyes while I burst into laughter. I’m the only one laughing, but damn… I haven’t laughed this hard in a long time.
“Well, you see… it was traffic, and… and a car nearly hit us, and... ahem... I thought I saw someone, and I panicked, and yeah… that’s all.” No-fucking-body believed his stuttered excuse, and I can’t stop laughing even though everybody is looking between me and Liam, confused as hell, waiting for a better explanation.
“Liam, is there something that I need to know?” Camilla asks while looking at Liam expectantly, and he swallows hard. If I thought he was pale before, I was wrong. Now he’s as white as a sheet.
“Well--” he starts talking, but I interrupt him because I know he’ll try and fail to find a proper lie.
“Let me tell this story.” Liam’s head snaps toward me, and his eyes are filled with so much fear that my heart swells. This feeling is even stronger than shooting him. But he is my brother and my best friend, and I would never hurt him like this.
“When I realized that we had no chance of catching up with her, he was laughing at me because I was angry. So I turned the tables and told him to look left because I saw Camilla with a guy. And then… it was my turn to laugh.” It was silent, you couldn’t hear it, but I saw how the biggest breath of relief left his constricted lungs, and he mouthed a thank you.
“Baby, you know I would never cheat on you, right?” Camilla asks a little hurt, and Liam turns and cups her face.
“I know, baby, but the idiot was convincing, and I still can’t understand why you chose me over everyone else, so if I have doubts, that’s on me, not you.” I know he’s not lying; he keeps saying that he’s afraid he’s not good enough for her, but he is—he worships the ground she walks on.
“I love you,” Camilla says and kisses his cheek, and the fucker smiles bigger and brighter than a kid in a candy store.
“Adonis, bring that girl here. I want to see who makes my baby boy happy.” Mom turns the spotlight on me again, and I groan inwardly.
“Yes, Adonis, bring her here; maybe she’ll like my bike.” Well, it looks like Blaze seems eager to try his luck tonight.
“Blaze, if you like your bike, I advise you to keep it in your garage and never, ever talk or think like that about her again!” I try to stay calm, but he’s making it hard for me.
“And when I started to believe that you’re not jealous...” He trails off with a fake sigh.
“You’re pushing your luck, Blaze.” My voice is deep and commanding, causing the smirk on his face to fade as he raises his hands in surrender.
“Okay, okay, chill, bro...
“That’s enough drama for one night. Let’s eat.” Dad’s voice leaves no room for further discussion, and I flash him an appreciative smile.
“Thanks, Dad.” He nods, silently telling me he'll always have my back, making my heart swell.
We all start eating, but my mind is still on my naughty queen.
Hmm.. the things I'll do to you when I get my hands on you...
