181. Time to move

Alana

So that was it, that was the end.

I had a sad look on my face as the servants placed the luggage containing my personal belongings and those of my daughter into the carriage, which I was going to take with me on the journey to the city of gold. My daughter was always in my arms, and I was always protecting her from everything and everyone. Because ever since people found out that my baby was a girl, they looked at me crookedly as if I were there to destroy their pack.

People had a short memory and forgot how much I had helped them when they needed it most, but today, since I wasn't pleasing them anymore, they were already thinking bad things about me. Thank the gods that I didn't depend on them for anything, as I was quite sufficient for myself and my daughter.

Maya and Lily were there when the servants packed my things. Skylar wasn't there, and I didn't know where she was. I was sad to see that she hadn't come to say goodbye to me, but I couldn't do anything about it because no one was forced to feel moved by me.

“You have to wrap her up well, right? It's really cold this time of year,” Maya said to me kindly, patting my little princess's back as my two girls were there saying goodbye too.

I smiled at her. “Sure, I will do that, thank you,” I replied.

Lily didn't want to let go of my arm. “Do you promise you’ll come back and meet my baby when it’s born?” She asked, running her hand over her belly. She had recently discovered that she was expecting a child.

I giggled excitedly, placing my hand on her belly too. “Of course, I'll be back to visit here,” I said to her, and she smiled at me.

“Isn’t he going to come down and say goodbye properly?” Maya murmured, referring to Sedrik who was standing on the balcony of his quarters, looking down here and watching all this happen.

He had a dark look on his face, dissatisfied with the fact that our story had to end this way, but we had already talked a lot about this, so no matter how much he tried to convince me, it simply wasn't going to result in anything.

“I hope he has a lot of fun in the mating ritual, but I won't be here to witness it anymore,” I said firmly.

“You are such a strong woman, Alana,” Lily commented, heartfelt.

“I only know my place, my dear,” I smiled at them, then nodded when the coachman announced that he had finished packing my things and that everything was ready for the journey.

I gave the girls one last hug and then headed to the carriage to get on it. But a voice made me stop what I was doing.

"Wait!" It was Skylar. She was panting as if she had come running and had a bag in her hands.

"What? I thought you didn't want to come and say goodbye to me,” I told her, visibly confused.

"Really? What the hell is that? I'm going with you, Alana,” she revealed, approaching with her bag in hand.

"What? Are you crazy by any chance?” I was shocked by her words.

“Different from both of them,” she said, pointing to Maya and Lily. “I don't really have a husband or commitments. I wouldn't stay in this place without you anyway,” she shrugged.

It was true that Maya and Lily were only not coming with me because of their husbands and children, but Skylar also had the Wallace affair, even though they weren't married, but it still meant a lot to them.

She was now hugging the girls as they said goodbye, and then she approached me, heading towards the carriage.

“But what about Wallace…?” I stammered, I was afraid that she was putting a lot at stake just because of me.

“We had a new conversation yesterday while we were having sex,” She said, climbing into the carriage. “Wallace understands that it is crucial that I come with you to take care of you. And as for our relationship, he and I are two flexible people, and as soon as we can, we will meet again.” She smiled at me, already inside the carriage, and extended her hand to help me get on.

“By the goddess, you are such a mad woman,” I said to her, still surprised. But then I held her hand and then got into the carriage, giggling along with her.

Maya and Lily were shaking their hands for us as the carriage slowly drove away. I looked one last time at the city that had welcomed me for so long and realized that I would miss everything, even though they were so hostile towards me. I looked one last time at the balcony where Sedrik was standing and realized he was no longer there.

Furthermore, I was sad about that, even though I was just trying to take it in a more sporting way. It was sad, and it hurt me a lot to have to part with the man I loved and would always love. The problem was that that pack simply limited me a lot, I expected Sedrik to go to the city of gold a few times to visit me and our daughter, who didn't even have a name yet.

Skylar was stroking my hand. “It’s going to be okay, Alana. You are strong, you will recover,” she said to me, and I smiled at her, nodding.

“I realize now that you being here with me is so important, so I don't feel so alone,” I said, and she giggled, shaking her head.

“You are not alone,” she said. “You have me, but firstly, you have your precious one here with you.” She was caressing my daughter, who was already sleepy.

I looked at the little baby and smiled, realizing how right Skylar was.
