Chapter 55 A GRUMPY NIGHT
STELLA'S POV
“I'll drop here.” I said to the cab driver as he slowed down the cab, marching his brakes until the cab finally stopped right at my destination.
I rummaged through my handbag as I pulled out crumbled notes from them.
“Here's my bill sir.” I handed them over to the cab driver as I watched him count them.
“Wait, let me get you your change, miss.” The old can driver tried to stop me but I shoved him aside.
“You can keep the change. Thank you for the ride.” I said to him as I was greatly exhausted and just needed to head up to my apartment.
I took one step toward the front gate when a familiar set of headlights flashed at me, causing me to stop.
It was my boyfriend.
“Shit.” I mumbled.
He pulled up right next to the pavement, close to my house gate.
I walked wearily towards his car, forcing myself to be happy to see him.
“Hey babe.” He greeted me as he walked in anxiety towards me and hugged me.
“My love. I'm good, what brings you here?” I asked him with a forced smile, trying to hide how tired I was.
“I had to come check up on you when you weren't picking your calls. Is everything alright?” He asked me.
Fuck! My phone. I had forgotten to power it on after the accident.
My boyfriend would have called me multiple times without me picking up.
What do I tell him? What should I say happened?
“Babe, are you alright?” He asked me as he held me, wrapping his arms around my waist as he pulled me in for another hug.
I hugged him back, using that proximity to hide my nervousness.
“Why didn't you pick it up? Where are you coming from by this time? Why haven't you called me? Are you ghosting me or something? We haven't spoken for days babe, what is going on?” He threw his questions at me and I didn't even get the time to catch my breath.
“Which one do you want me to answer?” I asked him.
“Every one of them. What is going on? Are you tired of the relationship?” Dave asked me.
“Babe, why such questions? Why will you be asking such types of questions?” I asked him in disbelief.
I was too tired to start an argument with him or exchange words.
“Babe, I'm just worried about you. Am I wrong to do that?” He asked me.
I inhaled deeply, my breath gasping out of my mouth.
I was just harsh on him for nothing. He didn't do anything to deserve that.
“I'm sorry Dave. I'm just so exhausted right now alright? I'm sorry I didn't pick your calls or return any of them. My phone broke down in an accident—” Dave interrupted me as he grabbed me lightly by my arms.
“Accident? Oh my goodness babe, were you hurt? Damn, I'm so sorry.” He apologized over and over as my eye balls rolled in their sockets.
“I'm doing fine. I'm okay now. I wasn't hurt…” I answered him.
“How did it happen? Where and when—”
“Do you want me to answer everything standing right here? Babe, I'm exhausted. Can we do this some other time please? I need to rest.” My voice was weak.
“It's fine. At least can I walk you to your apartment?” He asked me, trying so hard to be that concerning and caring boyfriend but I was not in the mood for that.
“I'm there already babe. It's just a few steps away from me. Please can we talk better tomorrow? I need to go in and rest.” I insisted.
Dave was a caring boyfriend who had a lot of insecurities in the relationship. He was always scared of having another man sharing me with him.
He wanted to provide me with everything so that I wouldn't be uncomfortable or tired of the relationship.
But he didn't know exactly what it was that I needed— that my body needed. Sex. I needed constant sex but he was not always there to give me the satisfaction that I needed.
“Bye, baby. I love you.” Dave said as he kissed my forehead.
“I love you too.” I replied back as we kissed lightly.
“Make sure to call me whenever you need me or need anything, alright?” Dave said as he hugged me while I nodded.
He turned back to leave as I watched him walk away with a smile on my face.
I walked in through the gate, closing the little strength that I had as I dragged myself inside the building.
Not long after I got in, I heard a knock on my door.
“Who could it be? I wondered with annoyance.
I was going to ignore it. I was too tired for anyone's nagging or knocking right now.
The more I thought I could ignore it, the more the knocking kept persisting and it was getting louder.
“Oh fuck whoever you are!” I screamed as I went out to open the gate.
“What is your problem?” I screamed as soon as I opened it.
“Hey, why are you so… chill.”
It was Arya. Damn, my best friend that I almost forgot about.
“I wasn't expecting you. You should have called before coming.” I told her as I walked away into the house, not minding to close the gate as I knew she would do that.
I was really exhausted and any little thing made me angry.
“Call? Are you being serious right now? No you can't be, you're just joking.” Arya remarked sharply with a scoff.
“Look, I'm not ready for this drama. Of course I'm serious, what is the use of a phone if not to call?” I blurted out as I began to undress, not minding if she was standing right in front of me.
“I'm straight Stella. At least wait till I leave or go to the bathroom to do that.” She replied as I just ignored her.
“As if I care.” I replied grumpily.
“You seem grumpy and… tired? What is wrong?” Arya asked me.
“Oh thank goodness someone finally noticed! You all just want to kill me with questions!” I yelled.
“Do you want to talk about it? Or would you rather rest a bit?” Arya said as I turned to look at her.
I felt sorry at the moment. I should not have yelled at her. She did nothing to deserve that.
Naked, I walked towards her with my hands open for a hug as I embraced her.
“… babe… you… are naked… I don't know if you realized that…” She stammered as I pulled her closer to me in a tight hug.
“I'm your best friend Arya. It's not a big deal if you hug me naked.” I replied with my eyes closed as I texted my head on her shoulder.
“But I'm straight.” Arya replied.
“And so am I.” I replied back.
I could feel her hands clutching tightly as she gently placed them on my waist, with her fingers trembling not to touch my ass.
“Is it okay if I…” She started her question without finishing it.
