Chapter 50 THE VISIT THAT ALMOST CHANGED EVERYTHING
ARYA'S POV
The doorbell rang.
“Are we expecting anyone today?” I asked my parents.
“Oh yeah, my doctor friend is coming in today. I normally call him Teddy.” My mum said as my dad laughed loudly.
“What doctor? Hope it's not who I think it is?” I asked myself as I began to panic.
“What are you waiting for? Get the door Arya.” My mum said.
“Yes mum.” I said as I struggled to get out of my chair with my body trembling.
“Arya, put it together. Don't let them notice you are scared.”
Fear gripped me. Oh no, what was I going to do? What if it was the same doctor who examined me in the hospital? Goodness this can't be happening right?
I went to the door and found it difficult to reach for the handle.
The doorbell kept ringing.
“Arya, open up the door!” My mum screamed from the dining room.
“I'm getting it.” I replied back.
“I'm fucked.”
Arya, you are fucked.
I opened the door gradually as my fingers trembled like a chicken beaten in the rain.
“Hey sweetheart.” The doctor greeted me.
I gasped. Thank goodness it wasn't who I thought it was.
I smiled broadly as I opened the door wider for him to come in.
As soon as he got in, I was about to close it when someone stood by the door.
“What the fuck???” I was so shocked as my heart raced faster, my blood froze and my stomach tightened.
It was him! He was standing right there at the door.
He didn't recognize me as he just got in smiling and laughing with his friend with my parents.
What is he doing here? I am really fucked up today.
Oh no. I stood rooted to the ground as I slowly closed the door behind me.
“What was I going to do? Should I excuse myself and go to my room?
Yes, that was just the right thing to do.
I went back to the dining room, hiding my face so that he wouldn't see me as I slipped my phone and was about to walk away when my mum called me.
“Arya. Meet my childhood friends.” My mum said.
“Darn it, mum.” I cursed under my breath.
“Hello.” I greeted with a shy smile.
“Wow, is this your daughter? She's all grown up. Like what? How many years?” Teddy I guess, the first guy to walk in said.
“They grow up so fast. She was like thirteen the last time you guys met.” Mum said.
Great. Enter history mum and delay me from escaping this tragedy that was about to befall me.
I was about to leave again when mum called me back.
“Come serve our guests.”
Mum, come on!!!
I yelled in my mind as I pressed my foot against the floor that I was sure if I had stamped right now, the floorboard would feel the impact and know that I was very angry.
Like the water is there on the table, just serve them yourself!
But that would be rude though— for my mum to serve our guests when I'm around so I turned.
I got the water and began to serve them while wearing a pretentious smile, hoping deeply that I wasn't recognized.
“You look familiar.” Teddy's friend, who was my doctor, said to me,
My heart froze. My hand trembled so much.
“Her name is Arya. I used to be their family doctor before I moved out of town after my wedding.” Teddy tried to introduce me to his friend.
“Arya. Sounds more familiar.” Teddy's friend said, as he tried to recall my name.
“You should know her. I used to tell you a lot about her before we visited.” Teddy tried to remind him as my eyes darted on the table with a pretentious and worried smile.
The doctor and I knew that it was more than just Teddy telling him about me.
“Ohhhhhh… yeah you're right. I remembered. Wow, she's really a beautiful lady.” The doctor said as I breathed a sigh of relief.
My heart calmed down as I breathed a sigh of relief.
“Doctor… Do you like her?” My step dad teased as everyone in the room laughed, except me, and the doctor of course, who just chuckled.
I was very worried that I wasn't even focusing on what I was doing.
I didn't even know when the cup was full that it began to over pour.
“What are you thinking of these days?” My mum queried me.
“I'm so sorry.” I apologized as I rushed to start cleaning the mess I had made.
“It's fine.” Teddy's friend said as he held my hand while I was cleaning, in a romantic sort of way.
I looked at him surprised while he smiled back at me.
I cleared my throat to interrupt.
“I— I'll go get the mop.” I said with a shuddering breath.
He released me as I quickly left.
What was he thinking? Why did he hold my hand? That look in his eyes, it bored deep into my soul, as if craving, wanting something.
Did he want to threaten me or want something from me? Sure he could do anything he wanted because he now had me pinned under his thumb.
But what was I even thinking? My mum said he was our family doctor so he sure couldn't hurt his friend’s child, could he?
And that stupid girl wasn't picking her calls.
I'd sure give her a big chunk of my mind once I get hold of her.
I grabbed my phone and rushed back to my room.
I took hold of my pillow and screamed into it.
I felt like breaking anything to pour out my anger and fears.
That was really close. I regretted ever going to that hospital from the start.
I wished I went elsewhere, sent somewhere that no one knew me.
I took out my phone and called her again.
She wasn't picking. I was growing impatient. I wanted to talk to someone, to share my fears with them.
Just as I was wallowing in confusion, my phone rang. I rushed to pick it without looking at the name of the caller.
“You this bitch! Where did you throw your phone??? Is getting your ass fucked more important than me? Anyways, it doesn't concern me! There is a problem right now!!”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, calm down girl. What is it? What problem are you talking about?”
“Justin?” I called out in panic as I looked at my phone screen to check the name of the caller.
!!! I exclaimed loudly as I pressed the phone against my chest.
“Hello?” I heard him call but I ignored.
I ended the call as I didn't know what to say.
Thank you Stella for putting me in so much trouble today. I sure would kill her once I laid my hands on her.
My phone kept ringing but I didn't want to pick it up.
After composing myself, I picked it after it rang for the third time.
“What is going on? Why did you end the call and delay picking?” Justin asked, suspecting something was wrong.
