You Broke My Heart
You Broke My Heart
CHAPTER 47
Olivia
I had just gotten back from my grandma’s place and had to prepare myself mentally to go for-see the wedding planning with Marcus.
He'd had texted me on my way about the cake tasting and also informed me the jeweler was around. We had a lot to do. And to be honest, I wasn’t feeling up for it. I wasn’t feeling up for anything at all. All I could think about was my discussion with Grandma—and Damon.
I made my way to my apartment to clear my head and freshen up.
The door was unlocked, which was really strange. With my heart in my throat, I tiptoed in..., and almost had a heart attack when I saw Damon in all black, sitting on the edge of my bed. His sandy blonde hair fell over his face, his head bowed.
"Wh...what are you doing here!?" I muttered, feeling my heartbeat spike. It was weird how he just appeared whenever I thought about him. Could he really not stay away from me?
"I don’t appreciate you breaking into my house, Damon." I forced myself to speak. "I literally asked you to stay away from me, why can’t you just—"
He raised his head slowly, and the words tangled on my tongue. I stumbled back at the intensity in his eyes. His eyes were bloodshot red. But that wasn’t all. Gone was the calm, quiet, loving look he always directed at me. There was a fire in them. A rage simmering underneath.
And then he raised his hand, holding up a single photograph…of Zoey?
Oh God…
"You needed me gone, huh?" His voice cracked. "Who is this?"
My breath trembled. I felt the blood drain from my whole body. "How… where did you get that?"
He stood from the bed, his deep blue eyes penetrating into mine, "Who. Is. This, Liv? My daughter? We had a child?"
My lips pursed tightly, my chest heaving. He already knew, and he didn’t look very pleased about it.
I knew he didn't need any form of reassurance any more. Even my expression was enough to give it away.
He shook his head, looking broken, "I've been sitting here all night, racking my head...I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to trust that this wasn’t your fault, but…" He shook his head. "How is it so easy for you to believe I’d cheat on you in the first place? How is it easy for you to believe I never loved you? Olivia, you left without even taking to me. Without letting me know exactly what i did. And then you do this… you're still trying to rob me of the chance to know my own child. To be in her life. Do you know how stupid I felt when I heard this!? When I found out? How could you be this selfish? I would have done anything for you, Liv. Anything. I would’ve supported you, but… how could you?"
I was tongue-tied. Unable to speak. Because at that moment, I didn’t know what to say.
"Did you even have any intention of letting me know?"
"No! Of course I had no intention of letting you know about her. Hell, I wasn’t even supposed to mention the pregnancy at all. I… I almost took it out. I was this close to getting rid of it back then. And I wanted you to believe that's what I did.
"You have absolutely no idea what it was like for me, and you need to stop with the crap and stop making it seem like I’m at fault here. You broke my heart, Damon, so quit acting like the villain every single time."
"I broke your heart?" His voice thundered. "Well, newsflash, Olivia, you shattered mine! And now you crushed what’s left of it with this!! Everything you accuse me of was fabricated. I did no wrong to you, Liv. I did nothing but love you, but still you believed a single lie you’d been wanting to hear all along."
Grams words echoed in my ears yet again. Fabricated? He sounded so sincere. But I couldn't be wrong....
"I get that you were upset and felt some kind of way, but keeping her from me while marrying my brother?"
"You still think you're the better choice, huh?"
His jaw clenched immediately. He just stood there, staring at me.
"I don’t get why you’re so upset about this. I have every right to have done what I did. And of course, I have every intention of getting married to Marcus. It’s… unavoidable."
"Where is she?"
His voice was low, almost a growl.
"Where is my daughter? I need to see her."
"You have no right—"
He stormed towards me, and I moved back instantly, my back hitting the wall. He was in front of me, his gaze filled with so much hurt and anger, pinning me in place.
His chest heaved as he glared at me. “I love you, Peach.” His voice broke, softer than I expected. Then his tone hardened, his words sharp as blades. “But right now, I really do not care how you feel or what you think anymore. I need to see my daughter. Right fucking now."
The way he said it, like he was daring me to say no, to refuse. I didn’t think I had ever seen this side of him—directed at me, at least. I had no idea how he found out, but somewhere deep inside, I knew he could trace her whereabouts if he needed to. But I can't have that. Not yet.
I shut my eyes as I inhaled deeply, before letting it out softly. When I opened them and stared into his eyes, I see the raw emotions in them.
His breath scorched my skin, his body pressed close enough that the scent of his cologne tangled with my thoughts. I swallowed hard, trying to ignore the memory of when this heat wasn’t anger.
His hand slammed against the wall beside me, caging me in, his knuckles brushing my hair. For a second—just a second, I thought he’d lean in, close the unbearable distance. My lips parted, useless words trembling there.
I hated that my pulse still raced. I hated that even now, with his rage suffocating me, some part of me still wanted the very thing I couldn’t have.
I swallowed a lump, "I'm going to ask you again, Damon. And I hope you tell me the truth this time. I really wish I was mistaken but it's very unlikely. But I want you to look into my eyes as you are now, and tell me you didn't sleep with Layla while we were together."
He shook his head, scoffing. Like I'd said something distasteful. "What else do you want from me? Huh? Do you need me to carve up every part of my body so you'd believe I'm saying the truth? You don't need to hear from me anymore, Liv. You need to believe in it and be honest with yourself. Now, where is my daughter?"
