Chapter 48 Chapter Forty-Eight
She smiles up at me. "I love you too Malakai."
Leilani sits up in the bed, looking at me. Her eyes land on the bulge in my pants and she bites her bottom lip. "Do you want me to take care of that for you?"
I chuckle. "It's okay babygirl. I just wanted to make you feel good. You don't have to worry about me."
She stands up on her tiptoes wrapping her arms around my neck. "Are you sure?"
"I'm sure baby. I am okay, we can take care of me some other time." I say winking at her.
She pouts and kisses me. "Okay."
"Put some clothes on baby girl. We need to talk about some things."
She gives me a concerned look. "Is everything okay?"
I give her a reassuring smile. "Yeah baby, everything is okay. Don't worry."
Leilani nods her head and smiles. I sit on the end of her bed watching as she gets dressed. When she's done she sits down on the bed next to me.
"What do we need to talk about is everything okay with my dad?" I can hear the slight panic in her voice and I hate that I have to tell her this.
"Your dad is okay baby girl. His treatments are going well, he just won't be home as soon as he hoped. He needs to stay there and keep undergoing treatments."
Leilani bites her lip and slowly nods her head. "So he won't be home for a while?" She asks, voice trembling a little at the end.
"No baby girl. I am so sorry. He wanted me to tell you he loves you and that he is so proud of you for how you handled yourself with the rogues today. He wishes he could be here with you to do your training and stuff baby. He is working hard to get healed, so he can be here with you."
Leilani nods her head and looks down at the floor. "I miss him so much." Her voice breaks and I know she is crying.
I pull her tight against my chest. "It's okay baby girl. I know you miss him, it's okay to miss him. He misses you too."
She sobs hard, her shoulders shaking against me. I rub her hair soothingly and kiss the top of her head. "I'm here baby it's okay. I got you."
She is silent for a while aside from the sobbing and sniffling. Leilani turns her head a little so it isn't muffled against my chest and whispers. "I don't want my dad to die."
I hug her tighter. "Your dad won't die baby girl. He is very strong and his treatments are going well it is just taking a little longer than he thought it would to get well enough to come home."
"You promise he won't die? I don't want him to leave me." She whispers, sniffling and coughing a little.
"I promise baby girl. He's going to be okay. He is doing everything he can to get well. Your dad needs you to keep being strong for him."
She nods her head sniffling. "I can do that."
"I know you can baby. I am so proud of the progress you are making. You are going to be an amazing alpha. Your dad thinks so too baby."
She lifts her head, wiping the tears from her cheeks. "Really? My dad thinks I'm going to be a good alpha?"
I chuckle. "Of course he does baby. As soon as you are ready he wants you to take over officially."
Her eyes go wide with fear. "No I'm not ready for that."
I push a strand a hair away from her eyes and rub her cheek. "You will be baby. I will make sure you are. Then we will hold the pack meeting."
"You promise?" She asks.
"I promise baby, I will be here every step of the way. We won't make things official until you are in complete control of your gifts."
Leilani gasps. "You didn't tell my dad about that did you."
I laugh. "Of course not baby. I'm going to let you tell him when you are ready."
She sighs with relief. "Thank you. I don't want him worried about me."
"I love you baby. Your dad may be my best friend but you are my mate. Which means you are my priority, you will always come first no matter what the situation."
She smiles and it melts my heart. I love seeing her happy. "You are my priority too Malakai."
I smile and kiss her. "I'm glad baby." I wipe a stray tear from her cheek and she smiles.
"Are we doing more training today?" She asks and I can tell she is hoping I say no.
"No baby, we had a big day today, I think we should just relax and start back tomorrow with your training. Unless you want to do some more stuff today."
Her eyes light up with excitement. "Nope I'm good. Let's go get some food. I am starving."
"Me too baby. Let's go get some food."
Leilani grabs my hand in hers and pulls me towards her door. We make our way down to the kitchen and Nova greets us. "Can I make you guys something to eat?" She asks giving us her usual polite smile.
Leilani smiles at her giving her a quick hug. "No thank you Nova. We are going to make something."
I quirk an eyebrow at her and she smiles. Nova looks between the two of us and then smiles. "I will leave you guys to it. If you need anything at all just call me."
"Thank you Nova."
"You're welcome Beta Malakai."
Nova leaves the kitchen, leaving just me and Leilani in the kitchen. "What are we cooking?" I ask, as I watch Leilani walk around the kitchen gathering ingredients.
"I want to make some spaghetti and some homemade brownies. I want us to do it together. You know like the couples in the romance movies do. They always look so happy when they are cooking together." Leilani blushes as she continues rambling and I smile.
She wants us to cook together. She is so sweet. If that's what she wants then we will make it happen.
