Chapter 46 Chapter Forty-Six
\-Malakai's POV-
I make my way into Tiberius' office and answer his call. "This is Beta Malakai." I pick up the phone speaking professionally.
I don't want to sound too happy or he will somehow sense it. He has always been good at knowing when something is going on just by the sound of my voice.
"Malakai, what am I hearing about a rogue attack along our border? Is Leilani okay? Did anything happen to her?" He asks, sounding extremely freaked out, which is not good for him. He does not need any extra stress, not with everything that's going on with him. He needs to heal not stress.
How did he find out about it so quickly? It literally just happened earlier today. I am going to have to hold a meeting with our pack warriors. They do not need to report every little detail to him, not right now. He needs to focus on healing not on what's happening around here.
"Tiberius calm down. Leilani is perfectly fine. Nothing happened to her. In fact you will be extremely happy to know that she was able to successfully defend herself." I say, feeling extremely proud of my girl.
"What do you mean?" Tiberius asks.
"There were three rogues when I was doing her training on our territory line patrols. One attacked me, and while I was fighting him off Leilani was attacked by the other two."
"You let her get attacked by two rogues?" Tiberius shouts cutting me off before I can finish explaining what happened.
"Tiberius calm down and let me finish explaining." I say trying not to laugh.
Tiberius sighs. "Fine, but you better hurry up and explain why you let my little girl get attacked by two rogues when you were only fighting one."
This time I do laugh, rolling my eyes even though he can't see it. "I quickly fought off the rogue, killing him as fast as I could. When I turn to help Leilani I saw she had everything under control. I was right there watching though, just in case she needed my assistance. But she didn't. It was incredible."
Tiberius is quiet for a second, as if he is processing what I just said. "She really fought off two rogues and didn't need your help?"
I nod my head laughing. "Yeah. I thought I was going to have to step in at one point, but she took care of it all on her own. You would have been so proud of you had seen it Tiberius. I'm telling you, she is going to be an amazing Alpha."
Tiberius chuckles. "I wish I had been there to see it. It sounds like she is turning into quite the little warrior."
"She is. She really is. Her training is going so well, she is catching on so quickly to everything especially the fighting." I say, smiling to myself. It makes me happy knowing she will be able to take care of herself when she is alone.
Tiberius laughs. "I am so happy to hear that. Thank you Malakai for doing her training. I wish I was there to do it myself, it means a lot that you are the one taking over for me. I know she is in good hands."
"She misses you Tiberius. She is ready for you to come home. We both are. How are your treatments going?" I ask, genuinely curious.
Tiberius hesitates. That can't be good. "I miss you guys too Malakai. Treatments are okay. I won't be coming home anytime soon though. I really wish I had different news. Promise me you will keep taking care of my girl for me."
"Of course. I promise, you just focus on getting well okay?" I say, feeling a little down. How am I going to tell Leilani her father won't be coming home any time soon? She is going to be heartbroken.
Tiberius sighs. "I will. Tell Leilani I love her and I will call her soon. Tell her how proud I am of her."
"I will. Was there any other reason for your call?" I ask, wanting to make sure there wasn't anything else he needed.
There is a long pause and I start to wonder if he hung up. "As soon as you think Leilani is ready to take over, have her hold the pack meeting okay?" Tiberius asks and I know the only reason he would be asking is because he doesn't think he will be back anytime soon.
"I will Tiberius. Dont worry I will be by her side every step of the way."
"Thank you Malakai, I will check back soon. Bye Malakai."
"Bye Tiberius." I hang up and take a deep breath, running a hand over my face. How am I going to tell Leilani her father doesn't think he will be home anytime soon? I knew this cancer thing was serious, but I was really hoping he would be able to come home with some kind of medicine or something.
I stay in the office for a little while longer trying to avoid telling Leilani about her father for as long as I can. I decide to check a few emails from the pack council and do a little bit of paperwork that has been back up over the past couple weeks.
After avoiding it as long as I can I decide to go find Leilani. I go check her bedroom first, expecting her to be in there, but she isn't. I check my room and she's not in there either. I wonder where she went.
I could easily track her down by scent, but I feel like that's cheating. So I wander around the house, checking everywhere. I finally find her out on the porch, talking to Lucas.
"Hey Malakai." Lucas says when I walk out on the porch.
"Hey Lucas." I say being as nice as I can. I still don't like him, but I know Leilani loves him, so I tolerate him.
"Was everything okay with my Dad?" Leilani asks and I smile.
"Of course baby, I will let you guys talk and you can come find me when your done."
Leilani smiles and gives me a quick kiss. "Okay Malakai. I'll be in there in a few minutes."
"Okay baby. Have fun. Good to see you Lucas." I say, and I half way mean it. He makes Leilani smile and that is enough for me to at least be friendly.
