Chapter 237 The White Throne

Chapter 237 The White Throne
Six months had passed since the sky tore open. Six months since the colossal shadow fell and the world was bathed in blinding, holy light. Sitting on the elevated dais at the front of the grand chamber, I looked out through the massive glass windows. The sky above Lycanthia was a brilliant, flawless blue. The bruised, violent clouds of the eclipse were nothing more than a distant memory, replaced by warm, golden sunlight that poured across the polished white marble floor beneath my boots.

The capital city was a sprawling canvas of frantic, joyful rebuilding. The deep, jagged chasms that had split the streets were filled and paved with smooth, pale stone. The ruined manors were rising from the ash, their walls reinforced with bright steel and fresh timber. The sound of horse-drawn wagons rolling over the new cobblestones and the distant, echoing laughter of children playing in the central square filtered into the grand hall.

I rested my hands on the cool, smooth armrests of my throne. The seat was not forged from heavy timber or dark metal. It was carved from a single, massive block of pure white stone, interlaced with intricate vines of polished silver that caught the sunlight and gleamed brightly. It was a seat built for the light.

To my right, standing just half a step behind the throne, was Wex.

The Alpha King did not wear a crown, though he commanded the respect of every soldier on the continent. He wore a simple, dark leather tunic, leaving his thick, scarred arms bare. The terrible, blistering burns that had ruined the left side of his face were completely gone, healed flawlessly by the magic of the stars. His thick jaw was relaxed, his golden eyes scanning the open hall with a calm, quiet vigilance.

I did not need to turn my head to know exactly how he felt.

The Sovereign Bond connecting our souls was a permanent, roaring river of liquid gold in the center of my chest. It hummed with a deep, powerful warmth. Every time his heart beat, I felt a gentle, rushing wave of affection and fierce, protective pride wash over my skin. We shared a single, unified pulse. There were no hidden doubts, no silent fears. I felt his unwavering devotion just as clearly as I felt the cool stone beneath my fingers.

On the wide marble steps below the dais, Shamus Senán Murray and Sacheverell were locked in a heated, ongoing debate.

The Emperor of Lycanthia wore a fresh set of gleaming golden armor, the deep gashes and dents of the battle entirely erased. Shamus stood tall, pointing a gloved finger at a large, unrolled map spread across a stone table. Beside him, the Rogue King leaned casually against the marble pillar, spinning a silver coin across his knuckles. Sacheverell wore loose white linen, his dark hair tied back, looking entirely unbothered by the Emperor's intense focus.

"The southern trade routes must remain heavily guarded for another three months," Shamus insisted, tapping the parchment firmly. "The rogue factions are integrating well, but we cannot leave the supply lines completely exposed to bandit raids. We need a permanent Lycan garrison at the border."

Sacheverell caught the silver coin in his palm and chuckled. It was a bright, easy sound. "Your Lycan soldiers are too slow, Shamus. By the time they march down the canyon, the bandits have already crossed the river. My scouts can secure the supply lines in half the time, and they do not require heavy wagons of grain to keep their stomachs full."

"Your scouts lack discipline," Shamus countered, crossing his thick arms over his chest. "We are building a unified kingdom, Sacheverell. We cannot rely on mercenaries dropping from the trees to enforce the law."

"They are not mercenaries anymore, Emperor," Sacheverell replied, a dangerous, playful spark lighting up his dark eyes. "They are recognized citizens of the realm. The Sovereign decreed it herself."

Both men paused, turning their heads to look up at the throne.

I offered a small, quiet smile, letting the warmth of the sunlight settle over my shoulders. Six months ago, these two kings would have drawn blades over a border dispute. Now, they were bickering over the most efficient way to protect the people they shared. Above their heads, hanging from the high vaulted ceiling, the grand banners of the Lycans, the Werewolves, and the Rogues were stitched together into a single, massive tapestry of unity.

"Sacheverell will deploy his scouts to the canyon ridges," I stated, my voice carrying smoothly across the vast, empty hall. I spoke with calm, unyielding authority. "Shamus, you will station your heavy garrison at the river crossing. The rogues will track the threats, and the Lycans will hold the line. You will work together, or you will answer to me."

Shamus bowed his head respectfully, placing a hand over his armored chest. "As you command, Sovereign."

Sacheverell flashed a brilliant grin, flipping the coin one last time before tucking it into his pocket. "A flawless compromise, my Queen. I will send the orders to the southern camps immediately."

Before the Rogue King could turn away, the heavy double doors at the far end of the hall swung open.

Commander McKenna Leann Conaill marched into the grand chamber. Her silver armor was polished to a mirror shine, her dark hair pulled tightly back into a strict braid. Her heavy boots clicked sharply against the marble floor as she closed the distance, coming to a sudden halt at the base of the dais. She dropped to one knee, lowering her head in a crisp, practiced motion.

"Speak, Commander," I instructed, leaning forward slightly against the silver vines of the throne.

McKenna stood up, keeping her hands clasped tightly behind her back. "The preparations for tomorrow's procession are fully complete, Sovereign. The main avenues are cleared of all debris. The merchant guilds have erected the viewing platforms, and the unified infantry is in position to secure the crowds. The entire capital is ready to celebrate the Golden Era."

"Excellent work, McKenna," I said, feeling a rush of genuine anticipation.

Tomorrow was the official Unity Parade. It was the first time since the dark days that the citizens of all three factions would gather in the streets to openly celebrate their survival and the forging of the new world. It was a day meant for joy, for loud music, and for reminding the realm that the shadows were truly gone.
