Chapter 128 Bringing Her Home

Chapter 128 Bringing Her Home
Brielle's POV

The soft hum of the city outside felt distant, almost like a gentle background melody as we settled into the quiet of our apartment. It had been a whirlwind of days since we left the hospital, and now, finally, we were home, just the three of us. I lay on our bed, the familiar comfort of our sheets beneath me, cradling Brielan in my arms. Her tiny body felt so fragile, so delicate against me, her soft breaths barely audible as she slept, completely unaware of how much she had already changed our world.

Daylan sat beside us, his gaze fixed on our daughter, a look of awe etched across his face. He hadn't taken his eyes off her since we got home. I glanced at him, seeing the love in his eyes, and felt my own heart swell with emotion. Brielan was barely a few days old, but it felt like she had always been a part of us, like she was the missing piece we didn’t even know we needed. Daylan's dream daughter.

"She’s perfect, isn’t she?" Daylan’s voice broke the silence, soft and filled with wonder.

I smiled, nodding. "She really is." We just couldn't get enough of her.

He reached out, gently brushing a finger over her tiny hand. "I can’t get enough of this," he murmured. "Being her father again... this time to a daughter, it’s like everything has shifted inside me. I never realized how much I wanted this, how much I needed this."

I watched him, my heart catching in my chest at the emotion in his words. Seeing Daylan with our daughter, the way he looked at her like she was the most precious thing in the world, made me fall in love with him all over again. He had always been strong, protective, but now there was something new in him, a softness, a tenderness that was breathtaking to witness.

"You gave me the best gift," he said, his voice thick with emotion as he smiled at me,. "I thought I had everything, but I didn’t. Not until her." Before I could respond, Brielan stirred in my arms, her face scrunching up as a soft cry escaped her tiny lips. Daylan immediately leaned forward, his instincts kicking in. “Here, let me take her,” he said, already reaching out for her.

I smiled, watching as he lifted her from my arms with such care, as if she was the most fragile thing in the world. As soon as she was in his arms, her cries quieted, and I couldn’t help but laugh softly.

“Of course, she stops crying for you,” I teased, raising an eyebrow at him.

He chuckled, cradling her against his chest. “She knows her daddy,” he said softly, his voice full of pride. He began to sway gently, his eyes never leaving hers as he spoke. “Hey there, sweet girl. It’s okay, Daddy’s got you. You don’t need to cry.”

The way he spoke to her, so full of love and tenderness, made my heart ache in the best way possible. I watched them, completely captivated by the bond forming between them, and I felt like I was witnessing something sacred. Daylan’s large hands held her so gently, his fingers brushing over her tiny back as he whispered words of love.

“You’re my dream come true, Brielan,” he said, his voice low but filled with emotion. “I didn’t think I could ever feel this way, but you have changed everything. I will always protect you and I will always love you.”

I swallowed the lump forming in my throat as I watched him, feeling the tears pricking at the corners of my eyes. Daylan, this strong and capable man, was completely undone by our little girl. And I knew, in that moment, I had never loved him more.

As if sensing the emotion in the room, Brielan let out a tiny yawn, her small fist clenching as she snuggled closer to Daylan’s chest. My heart swelled at the sight, and I couldn’t tear my eyes away from them.

“You’re amazing with her,” I said softly, my voice barely above a whisper.

He glanced over at me, his eyes shining with love. “You are amazing with her too.”

I nodded, biting my lip as I tried to keep my emotions in check. “I know. Sometimes it feels surreal that I'm even a mother.”

"I think she needs to be changed," he said.

He moved over to the changing table we had set up in the corner of the room for times when she would be lying with us during the night to make it easier. He laid her down as she let out another soft whimper. He made quick work of changing her diaper, his hands surprisingly adept at the task now after a few days of practice. I couldn’t help but smile as I watched him, the love and care he poured into every little movement was palpable.

Once she was changed, he lifted her again, cradling her against him as he walked back to the bed. “I think she’s hungry,” he said, his eyes meeting mine.

I nodded, reaching out for her as he passed her back to me. As soon as she was in my arms, she immediately latched on, her small mouth moving hungrily. I winced slightly at the initial discomfort but soon relaxed as she settled into a rhythm.

Daylan sat beside me again, his hand resting on my knee as he watched us. “You’re incredible, you know that?” he said softly.

I looked over at him, raising an eyebrow. “Why?”

“For everything. For carrying her, for going through what you did to bring her into this world. You’re stronger than I ever could’ve imagined.”

I smiled at his words, feeling the warmth of his love wrap around me. “I couldn’t have done it without you.”

We sat in comfortable silence for a while, just watching our daughter as she fed, her tiny hand resting against my skin. It was such a simple moment, but it felt monumental. Our little family, finally together.

Once Brielan had finished, Daylan helped me burp her, and then we stood together, moving toward the nursery. The small room was soft and serene, the moonlight filtering in through the window, casting a glow over the crib we had so carefully chosen. I looked over at Daylan, who gently rocked Brielan in his arms, her eyes beginning to droop as she fought sleep.

“Should we put her down?” I asked, my voice a whisper in the quiet room.

Daylan nodded, carefully lowering her into the crib. He adjusted the blanket around her, making sure she was comfortable before stepping back. We stood there, side by side, watching as she finally gave in to sleep, her tiny chest rising and falling softly.

“I love you,” I whispered, reaching out to take his hand.

He squeezed my hand gently, his eyes never leaving our daughter. “I love you too.”

As we stood there, the weight of the world seemed to lift off my shoulders. For the first time in what felt like forever, everything felt right. The challenges we had faced to get here, the fears and the doubts, they all melted away in this moment of peace.

Mark was taking care of Phoenix Publishing while I was on maternity leave. Daylan would go to his clinic because those patients are important too. Although he hired more capable doctors, he wanted to be hands-on as the head doctor. I simply wasn't going to stand in his way as much as he himself wanted to be home because of his daughter whom he loved so much.
