Chapter 123 The Phoenix Publishing House
Chapter 123 The Phoenix Publishing House
Brielle's POV
Two months later, I stood at the entrance of The Phoenix Publishing House, staring at the shimmering sign above the door. My name, my dream, my future, it all felt surreal. I had worked so hard for this moment, pushing through the health scares, the emotional turbulence, and the endless hurdles that came with starting a business. And now, here it was, the grand opening of something that I had built with the help of Mark, not just for myself but for so many other aspiring authors who would walk through those doors.
The event was in full swing. Guests, authors, and publishers milled about, chatting and laughing as the soft hum of excitement filled the air. I scanned the room and found Daylan, standing at the far end, talking to a few colleagues from his medical practice. He caught my eye and smiled, a look of pride on his face that made my heart swell. I knew this day meant as much to him as it did to me, and his constant support was something I could never take for granted. His clinic was doing well too.
Mark approached me, giving me a quick smile. "Are you ready for your speech?" he asked, his eyes sparkling with the same enthusiasm I felt.
I laughed nervously. "Ready as I will ever be."
Mark placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "You are going to do great. You have built something incredible here. Everyone is here to celebrate that."
I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. It was overwhelming, the idea of speaking in front of all these people who had come to celebrate my goal becoming a reality. But I knew it was time.
Mark gestured toward the small stage we had set up at the front of the room, and I followed him as he climbed up. The room quieted down as the microphone was passed to me, all eyes turning in my direction. I took a deep breath, holding onto the cool metal stand for support as I began.
"Thank you all for being here today," I started, my voice shaky at first but gaining strength as I went on. "The Phoenix Publishing House has been a goal of mine since that horrible day of finding out what had happened to Sophia and her unborn baby. She was brutally murdered by my stepbrother who owned this company before but lost it due to being in prison. I wanted justice for Sophia and her baby, and I have a passion for writing, so it made perfect sense to open a publishing house. Opening this publishing house is more than just justice for them, but this is to help others make their dreams come true as an author, narrator, just to name a few. There were times I wasn’t sure this would ever happen, but standing here now, surrounded by all of you, it feels like a dream come true."
The crowd erupted in applause, and I felt a wave of emotion wash over me. Daylan’s eyes never left mine, and his quiet confidence filled me with strength.
"When I started this journey," I continued, "I wanted to create a place where stories, raw, unfiltered, and honest stories, could come to life. A place where writers, regardless of their background or experience, can have a voice. Today marks the beginning of that journey not just for me, but for so many others."
I glanced over at Natalie, who was standing near the front, practically beaming. She gave me a thumbs-up, her energy was contagious.
"None of this would have been possible without the incredible team behind me," I said, nodding toward Mark, who was standing to the side. "Mark Stern has been instrumental in making this dream a reality, and I owe him more than I could ever say. Thank you, Mark." He gave a modest wave, but I could see the pride in his eyes.
"And of course," I added, glancing at Daylan, "My husband, Daylan, who has supported me every step of the way. I wouldn't be here without you." He smiled, and I could see the love and pride radiating from him. It warmed my heart, and for a moment, the nerves disappeared.
"Today, we celebrate not just the opening of The Phoenix, but the stories that will come from it, the voices that will rise, just like the phoenix, from the ashes. Thank you, everyone, for being a part of this journey with me."
The room filled with applause again as I handed the microphone to Mark for his speech. I stepped back, letting the moment wash over me. It was surreal, standing there, knowing that everything I had worked for was finally here.
Mark cleared his throat and addressed the crowd. "I have to say, working with Brielle has been nothing short of inspiring. She is a force of nature, and the vision she has for this company is something I knew from the moment we met would change the industry. The Phoenix Publishing House is going to be a haven for creative minds, and it’s all thanks to her tenacity and heart."
I listened as Mark continue, feeling both proud and humbled by his words. It was hard to believe this was all happening, but I was so grateful that it was.
As the speeches concluded and the mingling resumed, I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned around to see Tabitha standing there with a man I didn’t recognize. She looked genuinely happy, something I hadn’t seen from her in a long time.
"Brie," she said with a smile, "This is Derek. We have been seeing each other for a while now."
I extended my hand toward Derek, offering him a warm smile. "It’s nice to meet you." He seemed to be around Daylan's age. He was handsome and, I guess, a perfect fit for Tabitha.
Derek shook my hand politely, and I couldn’t help but notice the way Tabitha’s eyes lit up when she looked at him. Maybe this was a new chapter for her too, one where she could find happiness.
Rick came over at that moment, his eyes narrowing slightly as he looked at Derek. "Just so we are clear," he said, his voice low and serious, "If you ever hurt my mother, you will have to deal with me."
Derek laughed nervously, holding up his hands. "Message received, loud and clear."
Tabitha rolled her eyes but laughed along with us. "Rick, stop trying to scare him off."
Rick shrugged, but I could see the protective glint in his eyes. He meant every word, but in a way that showed how much he cared.
Natalie, who had been buzzing around the event the entire night, finally made her way over to me, practically bouncing on her toes with excitement. "Brie, this is amazing! I think I’m more excited than you are! I cannot wait to work here with you on projects."
I laughed, the warmth in my chest growing. "You might be right about that. I cannot wait either."
She grinned, her energy infectious. "I’m just so proud of you. This place is going to be legendary."
"Thank you," I said, pulling her into a hug. "I couldn’t have done this without you cheering me on." She was like a cheerleader for me.
The night continued to unfold beautifully, and everything fell into place. Guests were enjoying themselves, authors were connecting, and the sense of community that I had always envisioned was taking shape right in front of me. Mark had been right, it was a success, and it felt like the perfect culmination of all our hard work.
As the night drew to a close, I stood off to the side, watching the guests filter out, talking and laughing as they left. Daylan came up behind me, slipping his arm around my waist and pulling me close.
"You did it," he whispered, his lips brushing against my temple. "I’m so proud of you."
I leaned into him, resting my head on his shoulder. "We did it," I corrected, smiling up at him. "I couldn’t have done any of this without you. We are both achieving great things."
He kissed the top of my head, his voice full of warmth. "This is just the beginning."
And in that moment, I knew he was right. It was the beginning of something bigger, something brighter than I had ever imagined. The Phoenix Publishing House had risen, Brielan had risen and so have we.
