Chapter 118 The Facade of a Once Happy Home

Chapter 118 The Facade of a Once Happy Home
Mia returned to their once-happy home, her heart heavy with grief. Every corner of the house seemed to echo with memories of Rick. The living room, where they had shared laughter and dreams of a future together, now felt painfully empty.

As she entered the kitchen, the sight of the half-prepared breakfast from the morning Rick was kidnapped struck her like a blow. The food lay untouched, now stale and forgotten, its aroma everywhere.

Tears streamed down Mia's face as she sank to the floor, overwhelmed by the enormity of her loss. The house, once filled with warmth and love, now felt cold and desolate.

Images of Rick's smiling face, his laughter, and the way he had held her during their most intimate moments flashed through her mind. She felt the emptiness of his absence like a physical ache, a void that could never be filled.

The passage of time seemed to blur as Mia grieved for the man she had loved, her husband. The world outside continued to move forward, but she was trapped in a timeless bubble of sorrow. Every corner of the house seemed to whisper Rick's name, and she longed for his comforting presence.

Mia's grief was an all-encompassing darkness that clung to her like a heavy shroud. In her loneliest moments, when the silence of their home became too much to bear, she would find herself drawn to Rick's belongings.

One day, with trembling hands and tears in her eyes, she opened his closet. The scent of his cologne still lingered on his shirts and jackets. Mia picked up one of his shirts and pressed it to her face, closing her eyes as she inhaled deeply. It was as if Rick's essence was captured in the fabric, and for a brief moment, she could almost imagine he was there with her, his arms wrapped around her.

She remembered the day he had worn that shirt, a lazy Sunday morning when they had lingered in bed, tangled in each other's arms, sharing whispered dreams and stolen kisses. The memory brought both comfort and heartache, a reminder of the love they had shared.

Mia ventured into the study, a room that held countless memories of their time together and the times they were not. The antique desk where Rick had worked late into the night, the leather armchair where she had often sat with a glass of wine in hand every time she wanted to escape his wrath.

Her gaze fell upon a glass of wine, the one she took the night before the day everything started. It had been a peace offering, a gesture of reconciliation after their occasional arguments. Mia reached for the bottle, her fingers trembling as she remembered the heated moments they had spent in this room.

Rick's voice, sometimes tender and apologetic, other times stubborn and defensive, echoed in her mind. The study had been her sanctuary, a place where she had spent most of her life in two years.

Now, the study felt like a time capsule, frozen in the past. Mia realized that she had been avoiding it, fearing the pain that would come with confronting the memories of their arguments and the dreams that would never be realized.

With a deep sigh, Mia decided to drink from the glass of wine, not to drown her sorrows but to raise a toast to the love they had shared and the pain he had caused her. She settled into the leather armchair, the echoes of their past conversations and laughter filling the room.

Days turned into nights, and Mia found herself unable to sleep in the bed they had shared. She spent sleepless nights on the couch.

Slowly, as the days passed, Mia began to sort through Rick's belongings, packing them away with great care. Each item held a piece of him, a fragment of their life together. It was a painful but necessary process, a way to keep his memory alive while allowing her to move forward.

In the midst of her grief, she wanted to reach out to Claus, but she couldn't because she realises she didn't have his contact nor Carol's nor any member of the team. He didn't call or text either.

As the day of Rick's burial arrived, Mia felt a heavy sense of sadness and finality settle over her. It was a somber gathering, filled with friends and family who had come to pay their respects to the man they had lost.

Mia held her diary tightly, seeking solace in the presence of their loved ones. Her eyes were red and swollen from countless tears shed in the lonely hours of the night.

The burial proceeded, the priest's words a distant murmur in Mia's ears as she watched the casket being lowered into the ground. She knew that this was the moment of closure, the moment when she

would have to say her final goodbye to Rick.

But then, amidst the grieving crowd, Mia's gaze caught something unexpected. She was certain she saw Claus in the distance. He was there one moment, his eyes locked onto hers.

However, before she could make her way through the mourners to reach him, Claus seemed to vanish into thin air. It was as though he had never been there in the first place, leaving Mia bewildered and questioning her own eyes.

Confused and disoriented, Mia decided to focus on the burial once more. The casket was now lowered, and the priest's final blessings signaled the end of the ceremony. Friends and family began to disperse, offering their condolences to Mia and sharing fond memories of Rick.

Mia's heart ached as she watched them go, realizing that she was now truly alone. She clung to her diary once again.

As the sun dipped below the horizon and the cemetery grew quiet, Mia whispered her own private farewell to Rick. She finally made her way to the house where she would continue to mourn, but there he stood, at the entrance of her home.

“Claus?”
