Chapter 106 A Motherly Disaster

Chapter 106 A Motherly Disaster
The cries of the baby filled the van. As the tension began to subside, Mia took the baby from Rick and cradled him in her arms, her motherly instincts kicking in. She checked the baby's temperature, which had risen due to the stress of the situation.

Rick watched Mia with a mixture of concern and apology. He knew that their predicament had put the baby in danger. "I'm sorry," Rick whispered, but Mia ignored him.

Claus, on the other hand, admired Mia's ability to remain composed and nurturing even in the midst of chaos. He respected her strength and resilience, and his expression conveyed his appreciation for her.

Carol, driving the van, took note of the baby's distress. She knew they needed supplies urgently. She spotted a nearby drugstore, but it was closed, as it was now well past midnight.

Sergio assessed the situation and made a quick decision. "We can't wait until morning," he said. "We need to get supplies for the baby now."

Without hesitation, Sergio pulled the van over near the drugstore. The team members knew they had to act swiftly to ensure the baby's well-being. They couldn't afford any delays.

Claus bypassed the security measures and gained access to the necessary supplies. All the while El Patrio remained in the car. He seemed to be humbled by the situation and remained calm. Others do not seem to care either, as they are all worried about the baby and their stomach.

Inside the drugstore, they gathered baby food, water, and other essentials. Mia carefully selected the items they needed to tend to the baby's immediate needs. The team also grabbed snacks and water for themselves, recognizing that they had been on the run for hours and needed sustenance.

Once they had gathered what they needed, they hurriedly exited the drugstore, their arms laden with supplies for the baby and themselves, only to be met with a shocking sight—the van they had arrived in was gone. El Patrio had apparently taken it and disappeared into the night.

Panic and frustration began to bubble up among the team members. Rick cursed under his breath, while Mia's expression showed a mix of disbelief and anger. Claus's admiration for Mia had quickly turned into irritation, and he was the first to speak up.

"That son of a..." Claus began, but Carol cut him off sharply.

Sergio pushed Daniel. "This is your fucking fault, red eye," Sergio exclaimed. He did not know Daniel's name, so he called him by his appearance. He has had a red eye from his fight with Claus earlier.

Confused and angry at the same time, Daniel pushed him back. "Mind your words, big man," Daniel charged back at him. How is this my fault?"

"You were supposed to stay in the car with E.P, you left him here all alone. You had no business inside there." He retorted.

"Come on man, everybody was tending to their needs right there, do I look like a robot? I wasnt even charged with the responsibility to stay, why do I have to be the one to stay" he answered, very angry.

"Now you need someone to tell you what to do?" Sergio charged toward him but Carol's voice stopped him.

"Enough!" Carol's voice was firm. "Arguing won't get us anywhere. We need to focus on our next steps."

Sergio, now calm, turned to Carol, he nodded in agreement. "You are right. We can't stay here. It's too risky. The beast could catch up with us with reinforcements."

Mia, cradling the now-soothed baby, chimed in, "This is where Cody usually comes into play, right?"

Claus, who had been relatively quiet, nodded. "Yes, this is his specialty. I'll make a call." He searched his pocket for his phone. "Shit! I must have dropped my phone."

"Come on Claus, do I have to clean up after all of you?" Carol remarked. "Do I need to be scared my information will get leaked?

"Be calm, Carol. It is not my personal device. We can always format when we are settled. I can't be that careless, you know."

"Then it is my call then." Daniel said. He quickly dialed a number, waiting for a response. The seconds ticked by, each one filled with a sense of urgency.

Rick tried to talk to Mia again, and she once again snubbed him, focusing on the baby.

Finally, someone on the other end picked up, and Daniel explained their predicament. After a brief conversation, he hung up with a hint of relief on his face.

"I found someone willing to help," Daniel announced. "They'll provide us with another van. We need to make our way to a nearby location for the pickup."

Carol took charge of the situation, her leadership unwavering. "Everyone, grab what you can carry. We're leaving on foot. Daniel, give us directions to the pickup point."

The team quickly shouldered their supplies and moved away from the now-deserted drugstore, guided by Daniel's instructions to the pickup point. Tension still lingered among them, but they knew they had to put their differences aside for the sake of their safety and the baby's well-being.

As they reached the designated location, they found themselves waiting in the street for the arrival of the van. The baby's cries had subsided thanks to Mia's care, but the atmosphere remained charged with unspoken frustration.

Rick couldn't bear the silence any longer. He approached Mia, his voice pleading, "Mia, please, we need to talk. I didn't mean for any of this to happen."

Mia, her eyes still focused on the baby, sighed heavily but didn't respond to Rick's attempts at communication. Her silence spoke volumes, and Rick's desperation grew. Rick, trying to get her attention, pulled Mia slightly so he could see her face well.

Claus, misunderstanding the situation and fueled by his own irritation, took a step forward and roughly shoved Rick away from Mia. "Give her some space, man! Can't you see she's dealing with enough?"

Rick, caught off guard, stumbled backward, his frustration boiling over. He lunged at Claus, and suddenly, the two of them were engaged in a heated physical confrontation. Fists flew, and tempers flared as they grappled with each other.

Mia, alarmed by the sudden fight, pleaded with them, her voice trembling, "Stop it! Stop it, both of you! She held Claus from the back, and he stopped immediately. Mia knew Claus could kill Rick with just a few of his punches. The ones that had landed on him would be something to write home about.

Carol glanced around nervously, worried that the commotion would draw unwanted attention. "Guys, cut it out! We're in the open, and we can't afford any more trouble."

Their brawl continued for a few moments until Mia's plea finally got through to them. Claus reluctantly Walked away, leaving Rick panting and disheveled.

Just then, the sound of an approaching vehicle broke the tension. The team turned to see a van pulling up to the curb. It was their salvation, the means to escape the dangerous situation they found themselves in.

Without further hesitation, they loaded themselves and their supplies into the van. The baby was once again cradled in Mia's arms, safe from the chaos that had erupted among them as the van sped away from the pickup point.
