Chapter 69 Chapter 35 (i)
SARAH
“I can't believe it. I’d watched this so many times but it’s still giving me butterflies!”
“I couldn’t believe it either! Who would have thought that our Spencer would finally fall in love like this? Look... he was so sweet and tender with Fae here! Thank goodness there was a video; otherwise, no one would have believed it. He’s always so reserved… but kissing and dancing on the dance floor? I’d never seen that boy act like this before!”
“I heard that Donya Leah was restless when she saw the video of her grandson and favorite debutante. She’s been calling her friends and already wants to plan a wedding!”
The two women laughed uproariously.
“I remember during the wedding, I felt so sorry for that girl because even though it was very hard for her, she chose to be there for Carl and the family. You know, even Carl’s grandparents didn’t come home. But I’m not worried anymore. It’s good that she ended up with Spencer. Spencer is far more handsome and successful than Carl! And she’s such a beautiful and intelligent young woman! I don’t know why Carl treated her like that and left her for his social-climber wife!"
I froze where I was standing just as I was about to enter my next new favorite salon. I recognized the two women giggling over the video on one of their iPads. They were wealthy friends of Carl’s grandparents, getting their hair colored at the salon.
I couldn’t believe it. Even here?!
Ever since Carl and I returned from our honeymoon, I’d been hearing nonstop about a high society party last night where Carl’s close friend Jigo attended.
And that he was with my ex-best friend, Fae.
They said the two were so sweet with each other that they didn’t leave any doubt they were in a romantic relationship.
I laughed it off at first. I hadn’t heard Jigo’s name from Fae in that way even once. It was always Carl, Carl, Carl. The Fairy Santiago I knew was loyal to the bone marrow. There’s no way she could forget Carl so quickly! More likely, she was hiding somewhere, licking her wounds, so ashamed and belittled, still hurting over losing Carl because of me.
Not only did Carl fall for me, but he also married me!
But when the rumors didn’t stop, I called Tom. On the night of the wedding, I sent him to Fae. After she ruined my reception party and made me look like the villain on my own wedding day, I wouldn’t allow her to get away without payback.
I had expected Fae would do something stupid that night. She was already drunk when we left. Drunk and miserable. Even Carl had a hard time leaving her there. But I pulled him away and promised him I’d send ‘help,’ though I didn’t say who. It could have been anyone from the guests. Many of them were on that witch’s side anyway. I knew Carl also entrusted Fae to Jigo.
But Tom was quick. I was confident he would get to Fae while all the guests were busy getting ready to go back to Manila. I didn’t care what method he used; I only cared that she ended up in his bed.
Tom had long wanted Fae, but she didn’t run in the same circles as him, and she wasn’t impressed by him. If she was drunk and out of it, it was likely she would fall for just any man available. If there was anything that could make Fae lose her wit, it would be losing Carl. And she did that day—to me.
I avenged all the degradation I suffered while living with her, supported by her, by stealing Carl from her.
But it wasn’t over. She ruined my wedding day by showing up. I sent that wedding invitation just to mock her and hurt her more. I didn’t expect her to come!
Then she dared to make a scene that rattled my groom so much that nothing happened between us on our first night. Not that we haven’t slept together yet, but he got so drunk once we landed and sulked because he said he disappointed his relatives and friends with what we did. And then he fell asleep on me.
First honeymoon night, ruined, because Fae cried her guts out at our wedding!
That woman was so infuriating!
So I was going to punish her again. I would take revenge on Fae again.
I was sure something happened between Tom and Fae, and I would get those pictures. I’d completely destroyed her pristine reputation once and for all.
But after my call with Tom, I got more furious.
According to Tom, Jigo himself appeared and kicked him out of his bar that night when he was about to catch Fae in his net.
I was wrong. Jigo wasn’t too busy to watch over his friend’s sister. Instead, Fae went with Jigo!
No wonder Tom wasn’t answering my calls and messages while Carl and I were still on our honeymoon. He didn’t succeed in our plan, and he didn’t want to tell me about it until he had to.
And now, people who once pitied her were happy it was her and Jigo now, and this is happening everywhere I went!
They said the two were perfect together, wonderful to watch, thrilling to see that Jigo could be tender when he finally fell for a woman, and that he didn’t even hide it when he was known to be so private... it tickled their bones to finally see their favorite boy so obviously in love.
And according to them, it wasn’t just Jigo. It was also clear that Fae wasn’t as heartbroken anymore as she was a month ago. That she looked happy basking under Jigo’s undivided attention, too.
I wanted to puke.
