Chapter 52 Chapter 26 (ii)
FAE
I bit my lower lip. "I’m sorry. I just... don’t want any other women approaching you with that intention." I took a deep breath. "I’ve never felt this possessive, I swear. I’d cat-fight someone…" I paused, then looked at him. "I didn’t know I could be like this. I’m sorry. I don’t know because you’re my first," I said guiltily. What could I do? We were married. He also said he avoided women who could be clingy, but it appeared I could be like that with him. Would he get tired of me?
I should stop. But how could I when I genuinely felt this way about other women who wanted him for themselves. And I knew they did. They weren’t even hiding it.
But he had a broad grin on his face. "It won’t come to that because I’m married, babe." He then leaned down and kissed me on the mouth.
It wasn’t just a simple kiss.
He held my chin and caressed my lips to open with his thumb, then deepened the kiss, prolonging it for several moments until we were both breathless when he lifted his head.
"Shiiit! It’s really her!"
I jumped, looking over Jigo’s shoulder to see where the familiar voice was coming from.
And there stood Kacey, Pam, and Joana on the other side of the gold cordon being lifted by a large man in a black and gold club staff t-shirt so they could pass through. When he turned away after ushering my speechless friends up to the VIP area and saluting Jigo, the t-shirt had BOUNCER printed on the back.
Wide-eyed and jaw slack, my three friends were staring at us.
Then they called out simultaneously.
"Fairyyy?!"
Uh-oh.
I hadn't intended to surprise my friends like this. I knew it would be quite shocking for them to find out I was already dating someone. But to be this intimate with that guy in front of their eyes the first time they would meet Jigo? I wasn't surprised they were all shaken up to the bone.
I stood up from the cushioned seats and ran towards them with Jigo following behind me.
“Wait. That’s Mr. Wrong Door, right?” Kacey squealed excitedly, being the first to recover upon seeing Jigo up close.
“Oh my god, it’s really you!” Joana exclaimed, pointing at Jigo accusingly with a manicured finger.
Pam, usually the chatty one, had her hand covering her mouth. She was screaming and trying to stifle it, having already recognized Jigo before the two.
“He came back to my door, and then he didn’t say… wrong door anymore,” I laughed, shyly. “We’ve been seeing each other since then.” I sneaked a look at him. Even to my own ears, ‘dating’ sounded… almost pathetic against what truly happened. I’d have to hold my guilt until the soonest possible time I could tell my friends the truth. When? As soon as I could find a sane explanation for all this.
Yeah… that might never happen. I’d just have to confess to them I just fell in love that fast… that bad.
Pam couldn’t hold back for long. “Iiihhh! Really?” she squealed, jumping up and down. “Is this exclusive?!”
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Joana asked me. “Well, if my rebound was that drop-dead gorgeous...” she said, then squealed and covered her mouth with her hand.
“Why don’t we move to our table, ladies? This way,” Jigo said with a smile, guiding them to their seats.
There, I formally introduced Jigo to my overwhelmed friends. He stepped away briefly to get drinks from the bar, giving us a chance to talk privately.
“That’s Jigo Myrick? Wait. Wasn’t he Carl’s friend on campus?” Joana blurted out once he left. “I’ve been thinking his face looked familiar... because he’s an alumni from our school!”
“Oh my god, the Myricks are richer than the Eastons, right?” Kacey added. “Wait... he owns that resort and that island!”
“Oh girl... amazing...! You found a rebound that’s much better than Carl. Handsome and with sex appeal that’s over the roof... my god! That’s how you play the game!” Pam cheered, her eyes sparkling. “So, does he have any brothers? Cousins?”
The three laughed. I laughed too and then smiled awkwardly. “Actually, he’s not a rebound. I like him. I really like him.”
They kept laughing, but when I didn’t say I was joking, they stared at me, frozen smiles on their faces.
“Hija, do you have a fever? Maybe you’re just overwhelmed by the boy’s hotness?” Pam asked worriedly, pressing the back of her fingers to my forehead.
“Bestie, it’s only been a little over a month since Carl and Sarah got married... and you were in love with that guy for like forever!” Joana reminded me.
I pulled my neck away from Pam who was still feeling if I was hot. “I don’t have a fever. I’m not drunk either because we haven’t even had a drink. You guys arrived before our drinks.” When Jigo turned away, Adrian arrived with my dirty martini and his Jack and Coke, and they were still on the table, untouched, along with some bowls of nuts and a plate of fragrant potato wedges with dip. “And I’m telling the truth. I mean...” I turned and looked down, towards the bar.
I saw Jigo, leaning against the bar but facing us, watching us. His elbows rested on the wooden edge, waiting for our drinks as the bartender mixed them.
In his outfit and that poise, with his chest slightly out, his pectorals were evident, the shape of the muscles in his upper arms was defined. Why did he have such broad shoulders? And why was it such a turn-on when his cuffs were rolled up, exposing his muscular arms?
Our eyes met from that distance, and he slowly smiled his signature smile—straight teeth, a little lopsided, a dimple almost showing. Sexy. And so, so hot.
Suddenly, I felt my heart leap inside my chest, wanting to break free, jump, and dance on the top of table for everyone to see how I felt about my husband. I almost couldn’t take my eyes off him, and when I turned my attention back to my friends, they were all smiling like Cheshire cats.
