Chapter155 Giving My Husband Some Work
Miranda looked up to see Dominic storming over with a dark expression.
He had been sitting in the corner observing the situation. When he saw Miranda throw coffee at Carter, he finally couldn't sit still.
Dominic walked up but didn't even glance at Miranda. Instead, he immediately began apologizing to Carter.
"Mr. Carter, I'm terribly sorry."
As he spoke, he pulled out tissues to help wipe the stains from Carter's clothes.
Carter shoved Dominic's hand away and shouted furiously, "Dominic, this is the daughter you raised? What man would dare marry a woman like this?"
"Yes, yes, I'll make her apologize to you right now!"
With that, Dominic whipped around, his face now dark with anger and rage.
He knew that the Carter family had many capable people. Getting connected with them would help his company rise to the next level, and his own status in their social circle would advance further.
"Miranda, have you lost your mind?"
"Mr. Carter is someone I worked hard to find for you, and you dare lay hands on him? Where are your manners?"
Miranda looked coldly at the furious man before her.
This was her father.
To curry favor with a so-called "business partner," he didn't hesitate to push his own daughter into a pit of fire, and now he wanted to force her to apologize.
"Manners?"
Miranda laughed mockingly, her eyes full of contempt. "I save my manners for people. Not for animals."
"You..."
Dominic's face turned livid with rage.
Carter beside him was even more furious. "Dominic, this is your sincerity? I think we can forget about that project we were discussing. Tomorrow I'll have my family withdraw their investment."
Hearing the words "withdraw their investment," Dominic's whole body shook.
"No, Mr. Carter, let's talk this through."
Dominic turned around and glared viciously at Miranda, his voice full of threats and commands.
"Miranda, right now, immediately, apologize to Mr. Carter."
Miranda stood her ground, her spine straight.
"I refuse."
"How dare you talk back?" Dominic was beside himself with rage. He raised his hand and swung it hard toward Miranda's face.
If this slap landed, Miranda's face would surely swell.
However, the anticipated pain never came.
Miranda raised her hand and firmly caught her father's descending wrist.
Her strength wasn't great, but it carried a fierce determination.
Miranda threw his hand off, her eyes as cold as if she were looking at a stranger.
"I'm already married."
Dominic froze for a moment, then let out a cold laugh.
"Married? Impossible!"
Carter beside him didn't believe it either.
"A divorced woman like you, who else would want you besides me?"
"If you don't want to apologize, fine." Carter looked Miranda up and down, a smile playing at his lips. "Just come with me right now to register our marriage. Once we're married, I'll consider that slap as foreplay between husband and wife."
He calculated in his mind that although this woman had a foul temper, her face and figure were absolutely top-notch.
Hearing this, Dominic frowned. He did want Miranda to marry Carter, but not in such a hasty manner.
However, Dominic didn't voice this objection immediately.
Miranda's voice rose several notches. "I'm already married. If you insist on forcing me, you're forcing me into bigamy, which is illegal."
After speaking, ignoring what the two men thought, she reached into her bag and grabbed her phone.
Clifton.
That man's name was the first to pop into her mind.
She remembered that last night Clifton had mentioned going on a mission nearby.
Besides, Dominic had never seen the true face of the Prescott heir. She might as well let him think she had married an ordinary "police officer."
She wanted to crush Dominic's plans to marry her off.
[Are you free right now? Can you come here: location pin.]
After sending the message, she clutched her phone tightly.
Nearby, Carter, his hair a wet mess, stared venomously at Miranda. "Miranda, I have plenty of connections in business registration and fire safety departments. Whether your company can continue operating is just a matter of one word from me."
He stepped forward, his tone full of implication. "If you really want to keep running your company, it's not impossible. As long as we're getting married, I not only won't investigate you, but I can have my family give your company the green light, ensuring smooth sailing all the way. What do you say?"
Seeing this, Dominic looked at Miranda and advised, "Miranda, I'm doing this for your own good. You'll thank me for marrying Carter."
Miranda was so angry her whole body trembled, her nails digging deep into her palms.
She had fought so hard to escape her family's control, fought so hard to be independent, yet in the end, there were still people who could effortlessly choke the life out of her.
Just as she felt suffocatingly desperate...
Ding-a-ling.
The heavy glass door of the café was forcefully pushed open from outside.
A gust of damp, cold air rushed in.
Miranda instinctively turned around.
Backlit, a tall, imposing figure strode toward them.
The man wasn't in formal wear. He wore only a black fitted short-sleeve T-shirt, dark green tactical cargo pants, and black combat boots caked with mud.
Rainwater slid down his hard jawline and dripped onto the contours of his defined chest muscles.
Seeing that familiar figure, Miranda's tense nerves instantly relaxed, and an uncontrollable smile appeared at the corner of her mouth.
She turned her head to look at the two men still gloating before her.
"Since Father thinks so highly of Carter and finds him so excellent, why don't you marry him yourself?"
Dominic froze, then flew into a rage. "You... what nonsense are you spouting!"
Miranda's gaze moved past Dominic's shoulder to land on the man who had approached, her voice clear and loud.
"I certainly can't marry him, because my husband is here."
At those words, both Dominic and Carter froze, instinctively turning to follow her gaze.
Clifton stood there expressionless.
He was a head taller than both Dominic and Carter, his downward gaze carrying an intensely oppressive presence.
Before either man could react, Miranda had already hurried forward and looped her arm through Clifton's muscular one.
She leaned half her body against him, striking an intimate pose.
"Let me introduce him."
Miranda lifted her chin, her tone carrying both pride and defiance. "This is my husband. He's a police officer."
As she spoke, the hand holding Clifton's arm secretly moved around to his back, and through the fabric of his T-shirt, she lightly pinched the flesh at his lower back.
The meaning was obvious: Help me. Play along.
Clifton's body stiffened slightly.
The tingling sensation from his lower back felt like an electric current shooting through his entire body.
He looked down at the woman beside him, a hint of indulgence flashing quickly through his eyes.
Miranda was oblivious to the man's thoughts. Looking at Dominic's livid face, she continued, "Father, Mr. Carter, if you're determined to force me to marry someone else, that's a crime. Perfect timing. You can give my husband some work to do."
