Animal

To mask his desperation, the Count refused, stating, "There is no such thing as immortality." However, the dark one summoned one of his servants and bit her on the neck, causing her to die and return as an immortal.

The next offer caught the Count's attention even more: "I will grant you eternal youth!"

Upon hearing this, the Count smiled and accepted the offer. Genevieve, upon learning of this, confronted her father and declared that she would only marry Lincoln. In response, her father imprisoned her and sent servants to prepare her for the wedding.

However, one of the servants, who had raised Genevieve as his own daughter, managed to sneak into her prison and help her escape.

Meanwhile, the dark one arrived at the wedding hall only to discover that his beloved had fled with her lover, further fueling his rage.

He dispatched his men to search for them, going from door to door. A month passed, during which Genevieve and her love were constantly on the run, hiding in one place after another.

Finally, under the light of a full moon, they stumbled upon a carriage that would take them out of town.

As they journeyed, they suddenly heard a loud noise, and their carriage stopped. Stepping out, they realized that the driver was dead and the horses were restless, desperately trying to escape what was about to happen.

In an instant, the horses exploded right before their eyes.

Within few moments, an army surrounded them and took them into custody, leading them straight to the dark one.

He resided in a grand royal mansion, which gave them goosebumps just by looking at it.

The frightening, dimly lit exterior of the mansion created a horrifying sight, more prominent by the thunder in the sky and the howling wind that twisted the trees, sending chills down their spines.

He took them to the laboratory within his grand mansion, where he employed his own team of scientists.

However, what was truly unsettling were the cages present in these labs.

Numerous animals were kept within, including two wolves that were kept separately in distant cages. These wolves were the only restless animals, growling at each other.

Without warning, two soldiers forcefully held Lincoln and forcefully placed him onto an experimental table.

They proceeded to secure him with sturdy leather straps, tightly binding his neck, ankles, and wrists.

Genevieve couldn't contain her distress and shouted, "What are you doing to him?"

The Dark one turned toward her, a sinister smile playing on his lips. She was being held captive by two strong soldiers, while he approached her and gently caressed her cheek with his elegant fingers.

"What do you see in him that you fail to see in me?" he inquired.

She turned her gaze away, squirming within the soldiers' grasp.

"Humanity!" she gritted her teeth.

"You believe I am nothing more than an animal?" he trembled, taking a step back.

"Allow me to demonstrate what true animal is!" he exclaimed, turning away.

"Begin!" he commanded, making the scientists retrieve seven thick horse needles.

"Do you see those two wolves?" the Dark one began. "The white one devoured the brown one's offspring, and now, the brown one thirsts for the white one's blood! These seven syringes contain a serious amount of wolf blood, the very same blood coursing through the white wolf's veins!

Wolves possess a heightened sensitivity to the scent of their enemy's blood, not to mention the germs and bacteria carried within the blood!" he explained, before turning back to face Genevieve.

Lincoln struggled helplessly, desperately attempting to break free. However, his efforts seemed fruitless.

The Dark one held Genevieve from behind, pressing a sharp knife against her throat, just to scare Lincoln.

"Stay still," he whispered in his chilling tone.

Lincoln, surrendering to his fate, stopped his attempts to break free and closed his eyes.

"No, no, no! Lincoln, don't give up!" She screamed and wept.

Suddenly, he felt a strong pain of needles piercing his body, one by one.

His head began to spin, and his insides twisted and turned, causing him to scream in agony. Throughout this process, Genevieve protested by screaming, wriggling, and crying helplessly.

Once it was over, the dark one grabbed Genevieve and ascended to the upper floor, locking the doors behind them.

He then led her to the balcony, granting her a view of the entire laboratory. The soldier proceeded to inflict open wounds all over Lincoln's body, before finally unlocking the door to the brown wolf's cage.

Before the soldier could make his escape, the wolf broke free. Starting, with tearing the soldier apart, and then turned its attention to Lincoln.

Genevieve turned her gaze away, but the dark one forcefully held her face and directed her attention toward Lincoln.

"You called me an animal, so you must see what it means to face one," he whispered in her ear, compelling her to witness the wolf tearing Lincoln apart.

As Genevieve watched in horror, the white wolf barked and relentlessly attacked the door of its own cage, eventually breaking free. The dark one held Genevieve and brought her to his bedroom.

He had no clue that, the white wolf engaged in a battle with the brown wolf, a battle that it won after defeating the brown wolf.

However, the white wolf was severely injured. It approached Lincoln, who was taking his final breaths, and licked his wounds.

Then, under the light of the full moon, the white wolf turned toward the window and let out a mournful howl.

Hours went by until the moon finally started to fade away in the growing light of the dawn.

Lincoln gasped and woke up, breathing heavily. He glanced at the white wolf, which then made a symbol on the ground with its bleeding paw.

The symbol resembled a broken and inverted arch.

Somehow, Lincoln understood that the wolf was trying to apologize in its own way.

He pulled his hands, and the leather straps that had held him tightly before were torn apart.

He watched as his skin crawled back together and his wounds healed on their own.
