Chapter 84 Great Grandchild
Chapter 84: Great Grandchild
Dianna.
Grandma slowly looked back at me again.
“Here is what I am going to tell you, dear,” she said softly while tightening her hold on my hand.
“Whatever Theodore does… protect him the same way he protects you. That man is willing to give his life for you,” she whispered.
My chest tightened quietly at her words.
For some reason, hearing someone else say it out loud made everything feel heavier.
Because deep down…
I already knew it was true.
Theodore loved me.
I lowered my gaze slowly before looking down at my stomach.
Then finally, for the first time in what felt like forever…
I smiled without fear, without guilt.
Without that constant heaviness sitting inside my chest.
Slowly, I guided Grandma’s frail hand toward my belly.
The moment her palm rested there, her eyes brightened.
“Grandma…” I whispered softly. “This is your great grandchild.”
Fresh tears immediately filled her eyes again.
Her trembling fingers carefully pressed against my stomach like she was afraid to apply too much pressure.
A weak laugh escaped me quietly.
“I still don’t know if the baby is a boy or a girl,” I admitted softly. “Everything happened so suddenly because of… circumstances.”
Grandma smiled faintly through tears.
I gently rubbed my stomach afterward, warmth quietly spreading through my chest.
“But now that I’m already in my seventh month…” I continued softly, “I think I want to keep it that way.”
Grandma looked at me curiously.
I smiled shyly.
“I want the surprise when I finally give birth,” I admitted. “I think… I want to experience at least one thing normally.”
The words came out quieter than I intended.
Because the truth was…
Nothing about my life had ever really been normal.
Not my childhood.
Not my marriage.
Not my love story with Theodore.
Everything always felt chaotic somehow.
Painful.
Complicated.
But this child…
This child is something beautiful that had survived all of it.
Grandma’s expression softened deeply while listening to me.
“You’re going to be a wonderful mother,” she whispered.
My throat tightened instantly.
A weak laugh escaped me again.
“I’m terrified,” I admitted honestly.
“That means you’ll do well.”
I looked at her helplessly. “How does that even make sense?”
Grandma chuckled softly despite her weak condition.
“Because selfish people don’t worry about becoming good parents,” she answered gently. “Only people who truly care become afraid of failing.”
“It is always nice to hear your wise words. So please,” I whispered softly while smiling through the sting in my eyes, “you have to stay healthy too, okay?”
Grandma’s eyes softened immediately.
“You still need to see your great grandchild,” I continued quietly. “You still need to spoil them properly.”
A faint laugh escaped her.
“Oh, I fully intend to.”
I smiled wider at that.
“And you still need to see Theodore panic during labor,” I added teasingly.
Grandma laughed weakly again.
“Oh dear,” she whispered. “That man already looks one inconvenience away from collapsing.”
I burst into quiet laughter.
Honestly…
She was not wrong.
Theodore had become absurdly overprotective ever since I woke up.
The nurses looked afraid every time I stood up too quickly because Theodore kept glaring at everyone like the entire hospital personally failed him.
Even remembering it now made warmth spread across my chest.
Grandma noticed the smile on my face immediately.
“You really love him,” she said softly.
The words caught me off guard.
Because despite everything Theodore and I had already been through…
I still wasn’t used to saying it out loud.
But this time…
I didn’t deny it.
I looked down shyly before smiling to myself.
“I do,” I admitted quietly.
Grandma watched me carefully for a moment before speaking again.
“Then hold onto each other tightly.” she whispered.
I was about to respond when suddenly, a familiar voice spoke behind me.
“I leave for a few hours and suddenly both of you are talking about me behind my back?”
I froze instantly before turning around.
And there he was.
Theodore stood near the doorway holding a small paper bag in one hand, still dressed in black, his sleeves slightly rolled up like he had rushed back the moment he saw my message.
The moment his eyes landed on me…
His entire expression softened immediately.
The exhaustion lingering on his face eased, and that familiar warmth slowly returned to his eyes like simply seeing me was enough to calm what was restless inside him.
“Hello, beautiful,” Theodore said with a smile that instantly made my chest feel lighter.
Then he walked straight toward me without hesitation.
Before I could even properly greet him back, he leaned down and kissed my forehead gently.
I smiled instinctively at the familiar affection.
But then...
He stole another quick kiss directly on my lips.
My eyes widened immediately.
“Theodore!” I whispered in embarrassment while lightly pushing against his chest. “Not in front of Grandma…”
Grandma suddenly laughed from the bed.
“Oh hush,” she said amusedly. “I already saw the two of you kiss during your wedding.”
My entire face burned instantly.
“Grandma!”
Meanwhile, Theodore looked completely unashamed.
In fact, he looked entertained.
Then slowly, his expression softened again as he looked toward her properly.
“I am glad you’re finally awake, Grandma,” he said.
The teasing disappeared from his voice completely.
And for a moment, I realized just how genuinely relieved he looked.
Grandma smiled warmly at him.
“You stayed with her the whole time, didn’t you?” she asked softly.
Theodore glanced at me briefly before answering.
“Of course.”
“Thank you,” grandma whispered sincerely. “For bringing my granddaughter back safely.”
Theodore immediately shook his head lightly.
“She came back on her own,” he replied quietly while his hand settled instinctively against my back. “she was worried about you.”
“You love her very much,” she replied.
Theodore did not even deny it.
Instead, he looked down at me for a moment before smiling.
“She’s my wife,” he answered simply, like that alone explained everything.
Heat spread across my face again.
“Ex-wife,” I corrected weakly.
Theodore immediately frowned.
“We are not using that word anymore.”
Grandma burst into another laugh while I stared at him in disbelief.
“You don’t get to decide that by yourself.”
“I absolutely do,” he replied confidently.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “You’re being bossy.”
“And you still like me anyway.”
