Chapter 80 80

Chapter 80 80
Phoebe~~

A few weeks later, I went to a fashion conference in the human land, where I was one of the hosts. Everything went so smoothly, and I returned to the lycan clan after two days of constant planning and talking.

My lips hurt so much. I even had a headache most times because of the much stress I'd put myself into those few weeks.

As we entered the lycan clan, I decided to reach my office before returning home, so I had to check up with my PA and managers on how every contract we had was moving.

Well, I had a yearly target, and we had finally surpassed it. And the fashion show I organised helped to bring more people to my brand too.

The day was already hectic, and I couldn't wait to sit in the bathtub for a few minutes, resting and calming my nerves before setting out. I dreamt of being so famous, but no one told me it came with so much stress and less time for oneself.

At first, I thought I would be able to handle my housechores, cooking, and then my brand. It was of great pleasure that I listened to the lycan princess to outsource my chores, so I hired a cleaner, a gardener, and a chef…and they always did their jobs very well.

Once my car rode into the compound, I noticed there were two more cars parked outside the garage. I noticed one of them looked like the princess’s car, but the other was one I hadn't ever seen, so I was so curious to know what was going on, even with how tired I was.

Oh! Did I forget that the princess had a lot more to do than I am? She worked in her father's company, still had her brand, and was also taking care of the neighboring clan's affairs with her mate. So she was probably always more exhausted than I was, yet she had never looked tired to me, nor did she care.

I alighted and made my way inside, and I found her seated in the sitting room.

“Princess, is everything okay with….

My lips hung open midway when I caught the presence of Knox just at the side.

He had his eyes on me, not shocked, not pitiful like the other time, and that made me worry about what was happening.

Princess Avire stood from her seat, wearing that smile I thought she was deceiving me with all the time. “Well, you have a visitor,” she gestured towards Knox.

I scoffed and licked my lips. “I don't understand. Didn't I…

But she tapped my cheek, "I'll leave you two to discuss,” she said, and made her way out of the building.

I honestly thought she was going to wait behind. Instead, I saw her car riding out of the compound.

My brows furrowed as I looked at Knox, who was finally on his feet. Finally, he stood firm, muscular, mighty, and fearless like the man I had known. It made me wonder what happened the other time and if he intentionally played out like that.

Still, I didn't hold back.

“Alpha, I really do not accept visitors this way, and most men who have my time are for business purposes…which means that they seek my audience in the company. Didn't I make it known that I'm not the mate you think?” I said with my shoulders held high, my heart not wavering, or my wolf whimpering.

He took two steps closer and asked me, “How long were you planning to live as the dead?”

The question resounded in my ear, and it only meant that he found out it was indeed me.

“Phoebe, do you know how much it cost me to find you here after I thought you were dead? If you wanted to hide, then you should have severed the matebond. But leaving it meant that you wanted me to find you…and I just did,” he said again, his voice sounding so firm like someone who had made up his mind.

I stared at him for what felt like eternity, and began making my way towards the stairs.

“Why don't you reject me instead? That way, I would be so sure that you don't want us to stay together.” His voice rose while I slowly dissipated from his sight.

I honestly spent hours upstairs, hoping that he would have left by the time I came down to have my meal. But to my greatest surprise, Knox was still seated on the sofa, his head bent low.

I pretended I didn't see him and went straight to the dining, only for my wolf to begin wailing, yet said nothing to me.

Despite how much I tried for her emotions not to get to me, I began sobbing too, so I had to leave the meal and go back upstairs.

At midnight, he wasn't in the sitting room any longer, so I checked the footage and found out he had left after the sun set. Watching how he wiped his face repeatedly while leaving, I couldn't help but burst into tears too.

Could I keep up with that? The princess didn't even call to check on me.

She must have made up her mind not to and that I should take the decisions myself.

I really loved Knox, but I still can't get over my father's atrocities towards his family. How would I be able to stand him all the time? Would his pack accept me as his luna?

The rest of the night was just messed up for me, and I hoped he would return the next day so I would give him a chance.

It would have been better if we hadn't ever met again. But as it stood, I seemed to have no power over this.

Truly, if I didn't still want him, I should have ended the bond carefully. But I didn't, and now he found me again, yet I was kicking him out.

The next day, after I waited until noon and he hadn't shown up, I decided it was time I left and went after him. Even if it meant going to his pack, then I would do that.

I dressed up, packed my bag, because I knew I wouldn't return if I happened to reach his pack.

Recalling that Angeline had to sacrifice her life for me to meet him again, it would be so cruel of me to ignore him at this moment.

I reached the car and dropped my little box, then told the driver where I would be heading.

Hours later, I was finally in the Fearless Keepers pack that I left a long time ago. I entered their palace and did not expect to see everything so grand, as if a ceremony was about to take place. There were so many crowds, and I sensed so many alphas amongst them.

I took slow but steady steps while glancing around. I even felt I had made a mistake to show up today when they were busy, because Knox might not notice me.

While deep down, I was also scared that it was the coronation of his luna.

Since everywhere was just filled up and there was no space to walk into the palace building, I decided to walk past the crowd. But then, I encountered Knox in the middle of the gathering with his sister, and the moment I showed up before them, everybody went low.

I couldn't believe my ears as they all chanted, hailing their luna. Neither of them raised their faces, and I wondered who the Luna was.

In fact, my heart almost left through my throat that instant. I almost broke up in tears, feeling so embarrassed that I showed up at the wrong time.

But someone mentioned my name from behind, her voice so familiar and her scent too. I turned around and couldn't believe my eyes. “Angeline?!” I screamed and began stepping backwards.

How did it happen? I couldn't be dreaming.
