Chapter 66 66

Chapter 66 66
Alpha Knox~~

She nodded and wiped her cheeks. “Ill be your cook, but promise me you aren't gonna die. Don't die, please,” she muttered, her voice broken, and I hated that I was hurting her feelings. After I cuddled her to myself on the sofa for over an hour, I found out she had fallen asleep and quietly lay her on the bed and covered her up.

I got the news from Levi that the pack councils had gathered up in the throne room concerning the declaration I had made about crowning Phoebe. I knew they wouldn't agree so easily, having thought of what I passed through because of her father.

But as it stood, she was the only one who could do this for me, concerning that she was royalty and would have taken over her father’s pack if she was there. Having her take care of the whole person was a nice idea for me, and Levi had supported that.

I made my way to my throne and sat down the moment I showed up before them, then the chief council went ahead to express their gratitude towards all I had done for them, right from when I created the pack until now.

“But, we won't accept her to replace you when there are so many competent alpha males to do that. If you wish to have a Luna, then you could as well crown one, but not her.” the man added, gesturing, and I could see how pissed he was. “Alpha, it doesn't matter if she's your mate. What matters now is the affairs of the pack. We don't need to be erased in history after your demise.”

It was no longer something to be hidden about my death. The whole masses had come to know about it, and they had been grieving, some praying to the moon goddess to restore my health, whereas I was ready to just meet my death.

The only thing that hurt me was that I couldn't find my missing sister up till now. In fact, I now believed that she had died, or I should have found her through all the process that I took.

“Your majesty,” the secretary stood up and bowed. “Don't you think the divine artefact would restore your life? Since your mate is back, you should have her get it.”

“It wouldn't be so easy, or it would have been done a long time and we wouldn't know about this.” the minister of affairs chipped in, and I loved that he understood me better at this point.

Since finding the artifact meant that I would still lose my mate, it was of no use.

When I got tired of their ranting and so on, I told them, glancing at their faces, “Get ready for her coronation.” Then I began leaving the hall, while they dwelled in their whispers behind me.

If my mate, who was royalty, wouldn't rule my pack, then who would do that? I didn't have an alpha among my men, and although promoting a beta to an alpha wasn't that difficult, they didn't fit to give out orders like I do.

Back when Phoebe was a princess, she wasn't strict to the ones serving her, but her aura pulls one to their knees. Her gaze was enough to tell one what to do, and I loved that about her so much, so she fit so much for the position.

If I knew that a day like this would come, I should have made her bear my pup with any alternative, so the generation would keep on going. But, I thought, that goddess up there had never loved my family; if not, she wouldn't let us just end this way. I thought, maybe, we weren't destined to rule, because this was some kind of repetition of what happened in the past.

The next day, Phoebe got dressed up and showed up before me. She bowed, wearing a smile which I was sure didn't reach her heart. “Henceforth, I'm a royal cook. Mind telling me what you want to eat for brunch? Looks like we would create a timetable for your meals.”

I chuckled. She looked so sweet with that apron tied around her.

“Prepare whatever you like, I'll eat it with you,” I said and she cheerfully bowed and left.

Only heaven knew how long I was going to live. But even if it was just for today, I should spend it happily with her. What mattered most was that I got the revenge I sought, so I would die a peaceful death.

Just some minutes after Phoebe left, Levi showed up before me and announced, “Vivienne is here to see you. Should I let her in?”

I didn't have the strength to begin going to my office or the throne room, so I nodded. She had been here once, so this would be the second time.

Levi left, and soon Vivien was led in alone.

She lowered her face and greeted, “Long live, Alpha!!”

I scoffed. Was that a mockery or what? Her father knew of my condition, and she must have known for her to be here. So was I going to live long again when she didn't say that when I was healthy?

“Alpha, how are you feeling?” she said again, and I shrugged my shoulders. “My dad told me of your condition, and how nothing could be done, and he couldn't help since you refused to crown me your luna.”

A pause. She licked her lips, maybe trying to check if she was speaking well or not.

“And so?” I drew her attention once again.

She cleared her throat. “I was mad at him for making such statements, and decided to come see you myself. What about signing an agreement to crown me your luna before he gets the artifact? I heard that you're planning to crown your mate, and it really doesn't sit well with anyone, due to the relationship. Don't you think it's risky putting your people in the hands of an enemy?”

I thought she was trying. Her father had done a lot of work, teaching her how to convince and tutor someone into believing her. But unfortunately, such a thing wasn't likely to work on me.

“Vivien,” I mentioned, and she bowed in response. “Do you really want to be my luna despite knowing that I would die soon?”

She licked her lips, but no word left her lips.

“How am I even sure that your father would get the artifact? He really didn't know that he could lose his life in the process, huh?”

This time, she looked shocked to hear such, and I understood that they expected me to be so desperate for the artifact that I would do anything to have it.

If I signed that agreement, they would use it against me, and I would be dethroned. Beta Drogo was a kind I didn't expect him to be.

“Anyways, I am not going to do that, so stop bothering about the pack you and your father refused to join,” I said to her, and she scowled.

After some seconds of silence, she asked me, “Is it your mate who's a member of your pack? She's a captive, and everyone knows that.”

“It's none of your business, Vivien.”

“How could it be my business? I'm only trying to manage a man like you who has gone impotent due to his curse, yet you're forming a god before me. That's why you don't have a generation. Impotent alpha king!!” she snapped and turned her back, leaving.

My chest tightened in disgust and anger. How did they find out I was impotent? She requested an audience with me from the dungeon, just to say this to me?

So if they knew I was impotent, then Phoebe carrying my child would raise questions and affect her as well. This was getting so difficult. Being told to my face of my impotency that even my beta didn't know was the worst thing to ever hear.
