Chapter 63 63
Phoebe~~
My adrenaline shot high, and my wolf kept howling in agitation. I slammed my body on the door, but it was too strong, even when it was made of wood.
The fire was spreading so fast, as though the floor had been damped with whatever gas my wolf inhaled. I kicked the door once again, only to be shoved aside by a strong, rough palm, followed by a mighty growl that sent shivers down my spine.
It was the princess in her lycan form, and she looked like she was going to break through the door. As I shifted backwards, she threw her body on the door just once, and the creaking sound caused me to widen my eyes.
She did it again, and it split by two, and then we took off, only to realise that everyone was busy with what they were doing, and it was just in the room which had a fire burning. The open door made it easy for people to find out what was going on, and just as the attention of the workers was drawn towards the room, the princess and I took to our heels just like every other person.
The crowd was too much. Some even transformed into whatever creature they were, but I ran ahead with the princess, who was still in her lycan form.
As we approached the main entrance, a sound popped behind us, and it was an explosion from one corner of the library, which caused one of the shelves to quiver and land on the floor. I heard the sounds of people whimpering in pain, and I guessed they were under the shelves, but I seriously didn't want to care about them and take care of myself first.
We rushed out of the building, and seeing how the crowd flooded out, and those wolves still whimpering, I couldn't stand it but turned to the lycan princess. “I have to save them, or they will die in there.”
“Your life is already in danger.”
“Just like theirs,” I responded and quickly freed myself from her grasp.
She didn't seem to withstand it and came after me as well, and when we reached the shelf, with her lycan power, we began lifting it so the people under would get out.
I heard their screams, and as it was raised a bit, they all crawled out while I still used my last strength, accompanied by the princess, raising the shelf to let them all out.
“I'm the last person,” someone said behind us, and we quickly dropped the shelf to the floor.
The princess grabbed my hand again to fasten the run, but she suddenly winced and let go of me.
I turned to her, my face drained of blood, “Are you okay?” but her lycan whined in pain before she buckled and dropped to her knees. She was so mighty, and her lycan body was kinda scary for me to touch. “My princess, how about you transform back to your human form so I can help you? You're too mighty for me to take care of like this.”
“But I can't! Needles are piercing through my tissues and muscles,” she responded in her human voice, her voice so deep that one would barely hear her.
I seriously didn't understand how needles pierced her body, so I began checking, whereas the fire, although it was being taken care of by the workers, was spreading faster.
“Can I drag you?”
“Watch your back, Phoebe!!!” she screamed at me from the background, only for me to get hit on the base of my neck. My vision blurred that instant, and I struggled not to drift off…but my mind shut down, and I found myself swimming in darkness.
_____
It was so suffocating. I couldn't breathe properly, but since I could feel my wolf in me, I knew I was surely alive. My eyelids were also heavy to open, and my limbs felt numb, so it took a moment for me to pick up my shattered pieces together.
There was daylight, even though everything was blurry. It took a short time for me to see clearly, and when I did, I only saw two men smoking and seated some feet away from where I was. They didn't seem to know that I had woken up, and I didn't want to draw their attention either.
I looked around where I was, and I happened to be in a broad, empty hall with just me and those men as the only souls there, so certainly, there would be lots of echoes if I made a sound. But what I hated most was that there was nothing around which I could use to cut the rope tied on my hands backwards, and then on my legs.
To even add to my anger, I certainly found out my lips were sealed, so I couldn't even speak. That moment was so bad because my body was just so useless.
I recalled the princess and how she was in pain before I left, and the only thing I feared was her death. Could these men be the ones behind the fire? Why did it happen just when I was searching for something important?
And of what use was it to them?
Since I couldn't even speak, I kept all those questions to myself and waited.
Neither of them left, and I didn't see them eating or drinking, which could tell how important it was for them to secure me.
How could I escape from Alpha Dean and end up here again?
Soon, everywhere turned dark, and without my wolf inner sight ability I wasn't able to see around where I was. I hoped for nothing, not even for someone, not until I inhaled a familiar scent, but I couldn't predict who the person was.
“Where is she?” came a masculine voice, causing my wolf to stir.
It couldn't be! I prayed not to meet him again.
He finally came into light, and we stared at each other with hatred tugging at the side of our lips. He was just dressed like the other day when I saw him—like an assassin. Could it be that he knew that I was in that academy, which was why he came there? If he had inquired about me, the management or even one of the students would have told me.
How long has it been? How many spies did he send after me?
The lycan clan was far away from the wolf packs, so why did this happen?
He began reaching closer to me, and if I had a knife, I wouldn't mind being tagged a murderer, provided I hurt him with it. He looked so deadly, and I wondered how on earth I hadn't seen this side of him before leaving with him from the club months ago.
How did my father get acquainted with such a person who could be the cause of his death? He was a rival to Knox, so what if Knox did that to my family because of this man?
“We met again, princess….” he sounded so annoying to my hearing, and I couldn't stop gritting my teeth. “Now that you're here with me, do you understand how far I can go to get what belongs to me?”
Just because he needed my response, he forcefully unsealed whatever it was they used to seal my lips.
“How has it been with the lycans? Did they hide you very well?”
“I'm not yours.” I snapped at him, my blood boiling. “Why did you come after me? What use would I be to you more than those women under your wing? How could you hurt that princess just to take me?”
Recalling the princess made tears gather in my eyes. I hoped we would meet again, because I needed to apologise for being the cause of everything.
“Just so you know that anyone besides you must get hurt.”
“You're not making sense, Dean!!” I roared, nearly forgetting how I was trapped there with those ropes that weakened my wolf.
He grinned, and I hated those expressions he wore. “Are you interested in knowing why I'm dressed this way?”
“That's useless!”
“You mean, Knox is useless?” he asked, and my heart sank. He chuckled and exhaled heavily. “Pretending you didn't know he was alive?”
My lips dropped open in shock. He couldn't be mistaken that Knox was alive.
